The one argument I see missing from this discussion is why has the federal involved in legislating this crime.
This nation was set up as a group of several independant states, the federal government was limited to national defence, easing commerce, and protecting the rights of minorities.
I've no opinion on whether the punishments meted out fit the crime. It is the federal government's job to define the limits of copyrights and up to each of the several states to decide on how violations of the copyright code is enforced.
Several years ago I tried out several distos, and have stayed with slack. The learning curve may have been greater than with RH, but slack has always 'just worked' out of the box and I have never felt as though I was being crippled to keep from doing something stupid. When I do something stupid I have always been able to recover, at least well enough to preserve data and rebuild.
Every once in a while I'll try *BSD or another Linux distro, once I tried Solaris, and I have either felt that I have lost some control of my system or I get bored hunting down config files that are not where I'm used to finding them.
IIRC, SCO is accusing AutoZone of copying unix code as part of their linux transition. Their argument is that code must have been copied, otherwise the transition couldn't have gone so smoothly.
I was a long time Murray's customer until this lawsuit. I have found that after I RTFM and follow some logic I can work on my car or motorcycle. I doubt I am the only Linux user that has figured that much out.
A bit of a joke. The two most experinced (highest paid) techs at my shop were fired on the same day. That left our PFY, one temp, and a former salesman.
They seem to be making a license available to the public and have even produced a EULA. After reading the FAQ I am still unsure if the right to recompile my kernel is granted. As far as I can tell the license is only required for commercial use. Unfortunately the links for additional information all still point to the still missing sco.com.

I have Linux servers deployed in my organization. What options do I have besides purchasing a SCO IP license?
There are 3 options for you to evaluate:
You have the option to do nothing, adopt a "wait and see" attitude, and
risk whether SCO may enforce its intellectual property rights with you.
You can replace all servers, desktop and embedded uses of Linux with an alternative legal operating system.
You can obtain SCO IP Licenses.
SCO is committed to protect and defend its intellectual property and believes that the most cost effective remedy is to purchase the necessary SCO IP License. However, the action you take should be based on the recommendation of your own legal counsel.
I'm tempted to buy a computer already put together just to try. The fight seems fun. However, since I work for one of the manufacturers it may not fly too well with my boss.
Individuals can purchase OEM'd software for less than retail. I would get pricing from a local shop that deals primarily with component sales.
If you're lucky enough to live in the Detroit area, look here.
I do break/fix repair for a manufacturer other than Dell. The reason we only support the original OS or an upgrade purchased through us is quite simple: In order to pay me, keep the shop open, and have someone on the other end of the line when you call is by selling product. If Best Buy made the proffit from your copy of Windows Whatever, they should then have the responsibility to support it.
Most seem to agree that the RIAA will blame pirating for any slack in sales. I think the best way to get their attention is to send an email using links provided on the artist's website asking if the label is a member of the RIAA.
If a reply is made (I don't expect every email sent is read) and they state the label is not a member, please be prepared to purchase the CD, preferably through their website so it can be tracked.
Here is what I sent through robertcray.com
Subject: Robert Cray's record label.
I just caught Robert's show in the [city] area and it was one of the best shows in years. I just needed to know if the label is a member of RIAA. I am doing my best to support the boycott. Until a few legal issues are resolved, I am going to be cautious in any new CD purchase and don't want to spend hours scouring through used music stores.
Thank you,

I understand more eloquent people can get the point across better, but I think this gets the point across nonetheless. It is also not rude, which is important if you want to be remembered for the right reasons.
In August 2000, Borland Software Corp. (formerly known as Inprise) released the beta version of InterBase 6.0 as open source. The community of waiting developers and users preferred to establish itself as an independent, self-regulating team rather than submit to the risks, conditions and restrictions that the company proposed for community participation in open source development. A core of developers quickly formed a project and installed its own source tree on SourceForge. They liked the Phoenix logo which was to have been ISC's brandmark and adopted the name "Firebird" for the project.
Still a newbie after many years, but a better educated newbie than most. Slack has taken me up the learning curve to where I decide I must know all you need to know, then opened a few more doors to show me there is still a lot to learn.
I like that.

I would like to point out that penicillin, though controlled, is legal. Perhapse some controlls would have to be placed on certain drugs, similar to controlls placed on alcohol and tobacco. One point mentioned in the movie remined me of my days in high school (small town in Texas); pot, heroin, cocain, and LSD were all more available than cigarettes and beer.
I do not agree that there will be significantly more addicts. Those who are interested in aquiring drugs already can. I could see a temporary spike in usage from those who believe everything legal is good and everything bad is illegal and opiates are terribly addictive.
I never became interested in narcotics. I used many illegal drugs when alcohol was not available. I went through the D.T.'s when I was 25 years old. I know several people who are addicted to heroin or crack cocaine that have also recovered. The legality of the action was never the issue.
In short, it may be best to say decriminalize all drugs. That looks at a group of chemicals that are currently considered criminal to possess or to use.
Isn't he talking about Toronto?

D10s and get a percentage.
Didn't Heinlein already let us know what will happen?
No system works 100% of the time. Unfortunately huge lawsuits have been paid out for system failures.

Besides, my tinfoil hat was getting dusty.
If their decision to fire me last month had anything to do with this...

How about this guy? He already has a record as a bad apple.
I had to try the classic google. I found the second result most interesting.
I think it is very nice of SCO to leave this page up.

"Using Kazaa"
And they all move away from me.

From firebird's docs page:
Had I only read this when it came out I would have known the dangers of drugs and saved all that trouble.
