  1. Facebook has repeatedly broken the rules, given away data specifically made private; sold to the highest bidder & or just the clever partner that could leech the data off them.

We, as a species need to disconnect from facebook.

  2. Instant solution on YouTube is Testing Having Two Skippable Ads Back-To-Back (cnet.com) · · Score: 1

When using the youtube app for anything I noticed a gradual increase in the occasional ads that cannot be skipped. It's like we're all fucking hamsters and the wheel keeps shrinking ever so slightly to find the "optimum" levels of BS we'll put up with. This sort of forced crap only happens in the app.

Almost any device that can run an "app" can run a browser. I never get this sort of shit with my uBlock Origin.

We are being fed garbage all the time and it's escalating in complexity, timing and stealth. Look at practically any "app" compared to a browser experience from the perspective of being fed ads and I don't see a lot of reason to use dedicated apps.

Youtube's app lacks "usability features" like playing while running a different app in full screen mode. I can put whatever on a browser and it will happily play along. In the app if I switch then it stops. This "feature" is designed to make sure there's a higher likelihood you'll be paying attention & watching ads.

Some of it is a bit crazy if you look at more apps. For instance; youtube is free. The Financial Times is a paid-for service (not cheap). FT have an app that gathers data on you and gives you ads. Is this how you treat a paying customer? WTF? -uninstalled.

Long story short as many of us know - If you can, avoid the app, use a browser and an ad-blocker.

A lot of money still sits in Tether but tether's issue is that it is not publicly available for audit which has eroded trust.

    Why would you use this instead of money in the bank? -Many reasons but I'll name some;

    1. many tax schemes require you to pay tax *every time* you materialize an asset so anytime it goes back to USD/fiat -depending on where you.

    2. It is a more trustworthy solution as it is supposedly audited in a transparent way.

    3. It is a convenient way to send money between exchanges where monetary policy between intermediaries may differ depending on where the exchange is.

    4. It is a method to remove centralized control/single point of failure in tether/Bitfinex

    5. It is likely to be cheaper, safer (due to price volatility) and faster than transferring through most crypto tokens/coins

    6. It is a step towards better regulation which means more criteria of institutional investors are met increasing the odds some may invest/hedge in crypto.

A regulated "stable coin" is a big deal.

  5. That ability to record radio is a serious threat that steals food from the mouths of poor artists. We *must* ban all casette recorders due to this terrible threat. If people can record radio in an unregulated fashion the music industry will die. Sorry I meant to say that if people can dub casette tapes the music industry will die. Erm, I mean if people can record music digitally the music industry will die. *cough* Apologies. I meant that if people can send each other MP3s music will cease to exist. 6. FOMO'ing and buying the top is something that happens in all markets. It is false to say this is because bitcoin is a scam and all that usual FUD.

The problem is not crypto. It's people. The same trading errors they make in FX or stocks are repeated in crypto.

Trading is not hard logically. It is challenging emotionally. Most people are afraid to buy when the price is low "what if it goes to 0??" and they then fear they won't "make a killing" as the price increases. With money on the line they fail to make good decisions based on compelling risk/reward calculations.

They can be really smart but if they never traded before, never had skin in the game then they're just noobs. Noobs do noob things and when there's money on the line they lose it.

Why people cannot bring themselves to paper trade for a year or so is beyond me. You do not need to lose money. Write $100k on a piece of paper. Risk no more than $2k loss on any one trade. Write your trades down, calculate fees. Write entries & exits. See if over a period of 1 year you can keep your $100k - most people cannot.

What makes people think they can just sink $50k into something at random, no really knowing what it is they are buying, if the market is trending and expect to make large gains in a short period of time is simply beyond me.

Trading is about taking other people's money. It's not nice and it's not fair. No one forced anyone to play the game.

To address your post directly; it's not scary, it's one of the signs it's time to cash out and this ALWAYS happens when a market turns parabolic. That steep rising curve that looks like a sheer cliff drop...too many people that don't know what they are doing buy there.

They will talk about bitcoin soon enough...when the next bull cycle starts.

Any suggestion that this name "autopilot" leads to complacency or that it makes people assume the vehicle is completely autonomous and road worthy are against our terms of service. There are many flashy flashy alerts to say that the person should be in control, not Tesla software. Crucially the user must note that software updates and scheduling of such are solely the responsibility of the car's system administrator. Tesla Motors cannot be held liable for any failure on the part of the administrator to apply critical braking patches and failure to do so should result in the operator not driving the vehicle. Also, the media are just full of crap and they should know better than to criticise an engineering genius and god-like human such as our beloved leader Elon Musk. The real challenge for educators, parents, friends and managers that know demotivated intelligent people is to help them get that spark to apply themselves.

It is perhaps unthinkable that one could achieve so much and yet not bother; and indeed it is suggestive that such behaviour is not intelligent...yet without a reward, a satisfaction of sorts there is little motivation to act.

  13. You need to read more carefully...from the article: "The company tried to trace the hackers, but found that all the data logs of the affected wallets had been erased, leaving no trails about where the bitcoins were transferred."

It's not the blockchain record that was erased.

It's also important to understand that an exchange often has transactions on a data base & only once bitcoin is withdrawn does it register on the blockchain because all the trading happens off-chain.

As an exchange sends bitcoin to many addresses constantly it will take a great deal of time to trace it and by then the thief may have cashed out.

Of course if they managed to find the Mt. Gox hacker after so many years because it was all traced on the blockchain then stealing bitcoin and keeping it on-chain is not a very smart idea...

In summary, as far as we know; bitcoin is the only tried & tested decentralized public financial blockchain that is a currency agnostic settlement layer application and it is secure.

Russia has great hacking capabilities but if you are good at something, why do it for free?! -After all Russia's economy is not doing great, times are rough.

One cannot hire this level of expertise within the US in order to hack sensitive US systems without it having a rather easy trail back to you. So what's a comrade to do?

Hire some Russian hackers (cheaper but just as good) so they carry the risk and blame while you get PLAUSIBLE DENIABILITY - eh davarish Trump?

  20. Wait for when VR takes hold. Our children will say that their children have completely abandoned reality...

  21. You are making a grave (and purposeful) misrepresentation. A butter knife is a utencil. A hunting knife is at best a multi-purpose weapon. Guns are weapons and while weapons can be used defensively their nature is offensive.

Now a gun that can fire several rounds in a 10 second period is quite reasonably sufficient for personal protection. There are very rare, few and far in-between events that require a person to defend themselves with a gun and need more than 15 rounds. I'd argue that this by default is overkill.

Often what people purchase are not hand guns but rather assualt weapons. As an ex-solider I can tell you point blank that no civilian needs an assualt rifle to defend anything. Worse yet is the fact that many people own multiple weapons. You do not need multiple guns of any kind to defend yourself.

Now if an attacker had a butter knife and went mental, how many people could he harm before they run away or he's stopped? two? three? -If the attacker had a hand gun and was a crack shot how many would be endangered? 7? 10??

With a modded semi-automatic we already know what can happen. Multiply that with several such weapons and 1 basket case can possibly kill 100 people maybe more.

With less guns out there; less powerful weapons, more stringent checks, higher age limits and mandatory training there would be X less deaths. How many is that? LESS, SO IT'S WORTH IT!

Don't tell me that just because a seatbelt does not prevent the death of passenger when a car explodes that it's not worth having seat belts.

Don't tell me that because hunting knives are just tools and tools don't kill people so everyone should be OK to take one to school.

Don't fucking tell me not to "politicise" people dying; because the US has the worst gun control problem in the western world and that problem is INCREASING the amount of deaths caused by anyone trying to do people harm because it's so easy to get many powerful weapons, not tools. Mass shootings are not caused by screwdrivers or soldering irons.

Yes, some terrorists use cars and we are not banning cars. Cars ARE tools. They were not DESIGNED TO KILL. They are not weapons. See the difference between tools and weapons?

The second amendment speaks of the right to bear arms...when people had muskets. In a far dangerous time this to my mind is a weapon that can be used primarily for defense. The problem these days is that these guns, which are tools designed to kill, AKA weapons are far too powerful, too cheap, given away with very little if any verification to people far too young or unsuitable. Mentally ill people. People with a violent past...assuming they are checked at all.

The NRA love to talk about the fucking second amendment. What is so fucking good about it?! The second amendment was written in the bill of rights in 1791! Do you really want to live in the standards of 1791?? Forget women's rights men were perfectly allowed to hit their wives if they did not cook food or refused sex etc. 1791, back when the age of consent depending on state was 12! Back when many states still owned slaves. Fuck the social norms of the year 1791.

Without considerable change the second amendment is not applicable in this day and age. It's fucking backwards.
