  1. Space program = a step too soon on Space Vs. Poverty Debate In India · · Score: 1

I have to agree that in the case of India; that has serious infrastructure problems, the money would be far better spent on the basics. Once India takes care of most of its' pressing matters and can provide reliable clean water, sanitation, electricity etc to the vast majority of the population, perhaps then they can reach for the stars as a bonus. If you take all the money put into the space program and invest in infrastructure, like the electrical grid/power would the average citizen not be far better off and have a better future? Let's not build towers in the air on foundations quite shaky.

  2. Live as you see fit on Science Wins Over Creationism In South Korea · · Score: 1

Assuming you're not harming anyone else, live as you see fit. I believe that if by living and learning you happen to ignore religious "law" god will understand it's all a part of growing up. If god does will not understand then he is not god, so why worry about it?

If god was so offended that creationism is not taught, why didn't god write/inspire his holy book/s correctly the first time?

Don't get me wrong, I completely agree creationism must be taught alongside of science, my problem is which version of creationism to teach.
Once we can decide which religion is true and which is false we can finally begin the holy work of teaching the right version of creationism and all that good stuff.

Of course I'd not want to put many different people of different religions in a room to debate this, god might be offended by their consequent behavior.

Come to think about it, if god is so bothered about people believing in him and their eternal souls and all that, why doesn't he just say so? heck Amazon will give him an exclusive on the Kindle Fire HD. I can see it now "Kindle Sin Hellfire - GOD EDITION!"

  3. Go ebooks! on Judge Approves Settlement In eBook Price-Fixing Case · · Score: 1

Every once in a while we need a maverick. Amazon will undersell and bring back fierce competition to the benefit of the customer. Eventually, it will grow and become another apple, but until then, rejoice.

  4. Everyone is doing it on Sir Tim Berners-Lee Accuses UK Government of "Draconian Internet Snooping" · · Score: 2

Data collection/mining/snooping/browser profiling is so commonplace that pointing the finger in one direction seems almost wrong.
Your data is already being sold to advertisers by your phone company, by any form you filled in your details, by any "free!" email account etc. So many different companies and bodies are collecting data and personally identifiable information that we're becoming apathetic to it.

We need strong legislation and standards to make sure data collection is kept to a necessary minimum without infringing any further on privacy.

Some think an alternative to missing legislation is obfuscation of data. This requires a bit of an effort to give deliberate misleading details, temporary emails, use proxy IPs. This is not feasible for the vast majority.

We, the people, must strongly voice our discontent about such matters. Let's remind government officials that although the MAFIAA buys them lunch, it has a price.

If the data is obtained illegally, without due process that's all the FBI really needs to do. "It wasn't me". Of course, as history might educate us, later on they might u-turn and pull one of those "Well actually..." So if the data is real, it came from somewhere, someone was holding it, who was it? I thank the FBI for its response as it will only spur further investigation. Let's get down to the bottom of this.

  10. All your UUIDs are belong to us on Anonymous Leaks 1M Apple Device UDIDs · · Score: 2

Seriously, does anyone really think this is not commonplace? If the government is doing this behind the scenes just imagine what Facebook does with the data you willingly sign over to it. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Sure it's not suppose to happen, sure it's wrong, sure no one agreed to it and it needs to be corrected...but if something can be abused, it will be.

  11. Re:OS X is THE superior OS on Windows 7 Overtakes XP, OSX Struggles To Beat Vista · · Score: 1

Agreed. In fact as soon as we move to do everything via browser an OS will be as talked about as a BIOS...it's there, it allocated memory, the drivers load it runs a browser, win. The days of the desktop OS are numbered, even if it's still a few years off. Microsoft see it, this is why they are moving all the office package "to the cloud". OS independent. Innovate or die.

  12. Worth it? on Calculating the Cost of Full Disk Encryption · · Score: 1

Well, sure, the probability is such and such and YET you cannot say for sure if your data will be stolen tomorrow. What is your data worth to you? One would have to weigh the costs of data loss compared to the cost of protecting it, some data is worth X. It's X because we cannot always calculate what it would cost for the data to be seen by the wrong party. How much is it worth to encrypted bomb blueprints as another layer in protecting against it falling into the hands of a possible threat? how do you quantify that? So if full disk encryption worth it as opposed to what? not using encryption? hardware encryption on disk? software? The probability that only the person who owns the data can tell you if it's worth it is very high indeed. It may be worth far more than everything that person owns.

Does this make any sense really? We thought there will be a move from 2.6 to 2.8, all-of-a-sudden we had version 3.0 (Where are my .4 worth of upgrades BTW?) How much time did it take to move from 2.6 to 3.0? Considering the current, latest kernel is 3.5, it could be decided tomorrow that the next update will warrant a version 4.0. What does this version business equate to? how can you measure how much better it is based on this "version"? Would it not make more sense to date stamp the release? At least that way you'd know that X development time was put in between 3.5.1 & 3.5.2. I think we need a better system than "version".
