In the early stages of planning an ISP biz about 7 years ago, my partner and I had organized a meeting at his place with our potential bank manager. He lived with 3 other people in a "soon to be condemned" building. We looked somewhat presentable, and the room was semi clean (roaches took a vacation) but I think we were a little concerned when one of his roommates arrived with an underage teenage girl under each arm, and noisily disappeared into his bedroom.
Needless to say we did'nt get that bank all fired up about our business plan.
I never thought I'd say this but....

No can do...remember, the WTO is looking at harmonizing the legislation between all member countries.
I have been working in the mainframe world for a few years now, and one thing you have to understand about mainframe operations, is that since it's conception the #1 priority is UPTIME. Speed was number 8 or 9.
Only recently (last 7 years) has speed been a considiration, and that was thanks to the PC revolution. But again, you were alwsys dealing with two camps: Mainframe guys, and PC guys.
So all this means is that there is another choice for people who want the " 5 9's",the holy grail of computing, and not Windows, Unix or any other platform other than the mainframe can deliver that.
Ya think MSFT might try to put a positive spin on this?:
"See?.NET must be gaining popularity, it already has virii, just like other well accepted platforms. Developers must not like Java, you don't see a lot of viruses on that platform, do you?"
While I am trying to be funny, I might not be far off. Does having viruses this early in development give this platform some credence?
I know most readers here already block cookies, but for the 99.9% of the Internet users, this is waaaaaaaaaay to complicated, until IE 6 and presto: no more cookies.

I remember growing up, and TV was always free. Only recently (10 years) has using a free antenna on my roof NOT been an option. You want to watch free sponsored programming? Too bad, pay for it.
A friend of mine was the last hold out in the hood back home, and his signal just started getting worse and worse, until one day the cable company came by and suggested he hook up. The family said no, new cables went up across the street and "poof" no more signal.
It will be the same with radio, but over time. Pretty soon there will be no incentive to broadcast over the airwaves anymore, and you will have to pay for the right to listen.
Look, I can understand paying for cable. Dragging lines, hooking up to my house, maintenance of the boxes, ok cost justified. But the local TV station never charged me for putting an antenna on my roof. Of course the simple fact is the only reason they didn't, is they couldn't figure out HOW to charge me, the cable companys did.
The satellite companies are re-broadcasting local and national stations to you for a fee, that's essentially what is going on. Do you need crystal clear quality while listing to a radio call in show, no I think not. So why pay?
Because in 5 years, everyone will have to.

He summed it up for everybody when he spoke his message to bin Laden: "Kiss my royal Irish ass!"
Moran's words drew wild applause from the crowd, and have continued to draw attention from others as the media spreads his story.
The firefighter said he was sitting in the audience at Madison Square Garden, shortly before his turn to go up on stage to introduce a band. While he waited, he kept thinking about how much he wanted to say something for those that he lost in the September 11 attacks: his brother Battalion Chief John Moran, 12 firefighters from his own Ladder 3 and Battalion 6, and about 20 players from the fire department's football team.
He said his now famous quote comes from an old expression used in his neighborhood of Rockaway, Queens, which he hasn't spoken in a very long time. But the phrase popped into his head Saturday, when the time was right."

Hey, don't overlook the fact that some Atheists may have been killed in this as well. Read the following and consider this: If religion was not a factor, would we be in this mess?
"Attacks like these are not a good thing because Muslims live all over the world and Muslims may have been killed," Mr. Anwar said hesitantly. By his reckoning, Americans were enemies of Afghanistan, as were Jews and Christians. He thought about this a bit more and retracted it partially. "There must have been all kinds of people in the building, not just bad Jews but good Jews, not just bad Christians but good ones." He remembered something he had learned in his madrassa, or religious school. "It is un-Islamic to kill innocent people," he said.
Learn a little history please, christianity has certainly been spread at the barrel of a gun. Wake up and smell the coffee, there is no God. The sooner we stop believing in magical fairy people the sooner we can start living in peace.
The General Assembly will formally open its 56th session, selecting a new President. The Secretary-General will open the day's work by ringing the Peace Bell at UN Headquarters.
The Secretary-General will also speak to the Council on Foreign Relations on preventive action.
The Security Council will hold consultations on the UN Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE).
At 11:15 a.m., there will be a press conference to launch the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Africa Report, with Odyek Agona, an UNCTAD economist.
