It wouldn't surprise me if we end up paying this fee without any legal protections anyway, to compensate the "artists" for their losses. (Not that the artists will ever see any of that money, of course.) When you have the legislature in your pockets, why settle for less income streams than you have to?
Since John Howard has been Prime Minister (1996) it's been like going back to the old White Australia days of the 1960s and earlier. You're not missing anything.
However, that episode did annoy me slightly. Why the HELL would you name a nuclear power plant "Bad Wolf"? Why did none of the Welsh-speaking citizens wonder over this? The council would have a riot if bilingual signs suddenly started saying different things in different languages.
I thought that was supposed to be the TARDIS interceding with what its passengers were perceiving (like the explanation earlier in the series for how they can understand alien languages), in an attempt to warn them about the crisis addressed in the last two episodes.
So the reactor wasn't actually called 'Bad Wolf', but that's what the Doctor et. al. saw and heard... and by extension the audience. (I'll freely admit I haven't checked for evidence that strictly contradicts this, and I'm happy to hear it if anyone has it:)
Didn't the ATF play "Achey Breaky Heart" and "These Boots Are Made For Walking" at ear-splitting volume during the Waco siege? Look how well THAT turned out...
I've been checking across the day, and they seem to have made some tweaks to Light Mode since the switch. It was looking very choppy to start with, but now seems to be laid out better on most pages. Still sets too many colours though...
Yep, you read right. In an effort to convince people that they're going to improve service in the bush, our lovely Aussie government is talking about using the proceeds of the sale to pay Telstra (that's the telco in question) to provide a service to the bush. How's that for a deal!
It'll drive up the initial share price for the last 51%, which is all the Government cares about. If they can get more back through the sale than they're spending now, they're happy. Screws the rest of the companies out there that are actually doing a decent job in the field, though...
There is only one God and Morrissey is his prophet!
If oracle bought and canceled mysql you would see a number of people try to improve it with five hundred million cludgey add-ons.
Sounds like the last several years of MySQL development to me.

With a politician, everything he says is assumed to be his opinion.
Or the opinion of the RIAA/MPAA, Big Oil, etc. I guess if they've paid the politician enough, it suddenly becomes his or her opinion as well.

Slashdot jumped the shark when JonKatz started posting stories here.
Microsoft refusing on the grounds of ethics probably means that they were holding out for more money.
I don't know... it certainly shows commitment. Of course, if she has you put in a mental hospital, that really is commitment.
I must have missed the antitrust lawsuits aimed at stopping Sony's illegal exploitation of its monopoly status in the game console market.
Oh, that's right. There weren't any. Unlike Microsoft and personal computers.
In Australia, we're about to pass laws that make that legal. Seriously.

Yeah, but then there's the whole Godzilla thing to deal with.
I still have four of them. Bloody good machines, but not overly portable what with the whole battery situation. :)
These guys weren't pushing the hardware limits by any means.
Why did my Amiga 500 take 10 minutes or more to set up a new game of Civ then?

Trademark lawyers are probably a whole lot more anal than I am.
/. flamers would have fallen at that hurdle.
Congratulations on spelling "loser" properly, by the way... most
It's the X Window System, not X-Windows as you claim.
Origin were stuffed well before UO. EA acquired them in 1992, and U8 was rushed out, U9 even more so. UO was released in 1997.
Maybe AOL had her killed?
Dynamic HTML is fatter still, including the page you're reading
/. in 'Light Mode'. The source looks pretty stripped down to me...

Hey! No mocking the Pacific peso, please! It has enough trouble without all the hurtful words... :)
Terrorists Enjoy A Good Ice Cream!
Obviously we must ban ice cream immediately. If you disagree, you hate America and are probably a terrorist too.
Here's a deal. We'll stop bashing them when they stop breaking the law. OK?
