  1. Slashdot Pitchfork and Torch Festival on Microsoft Denies Rogue Windows 10 Upgrades, Says Users Remain Fully In Control (hothardware.com) · · Score: 1

Well known is most Slashdot's readership on Microsoft so the majority of these threads are nonsense and garbage.

    > You must have Automatic Updates enabled, then also have "Treat Recommended Updates as Important" however both of these are enabled by default, so there ya go.

    > Then you had to completely dismiss the Windows 10 upgrade options. Both available selection options to continue would eventually install win10.

    > Finally it seems that domain connected machines are not being forced by default but I can't find information specifically about it. All of my workstations are still Windows 8.1 and some have the GWX.exe running on them. So the no-force on domain controlled networks seems to be true but I don't know how the deadline works.

Linux users/fans/shills, making up bullshit to make a company that already does shitty things worse just makes you all look like a bunch of idiotic children.

Correct also HDCP is completely and totally broken I work in the industry and have an HDCP stripper box. HDCP signal in --> Unencrypted out so I doubt they'll use that as the primary protection measure. The idea of watermarking individually isn't bad one though it would probably stop your average person from supplying rips.

  3. You Will Not Stop Anyone from Ripping on Peter Jackson and JJ Abrams 'Back' Sean Parker's Screening Room (variety.com) · · Score: 2

"and along with Screening Room’s robust anti-piracy strategy" LOL are they serious? If you can see and hear the movie you can record and redistribute it. Period. At first I'm sure they'll have the stream locked down but pirates will just record it using a capture system and re-encode. And quickly the stream will be compromised and they won't even have to do that. Don't get me wrong I like the idea but if they're under some delusion that there won't be releases on every torrent site after a couple hours they REALLY don't get it. Love the idea (maybe not for $50 a movie) but you'll be able to get copies from everywhere less than a few hours after release.

Many companies are making USB c-type thin laptops that act as as a charging port, external display connector and peripherals. Due to backwards compatibility USB is going to continue to crush thunderbolt for general usage especially with C-type being supported by many manufacturers for their upcoming products.

Dunno how proprietary the amd video hardware is in one of those but if the drivers are good enough to display video you could use the stream feature and turn the PS4 into a stream box. Or you could throw it in the trash and build a small PC that will do the same thing better.
