Earlier this year while preparing for a move I put some old Lucas Arts games up for sale on eBay.
Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max, Indiana Jones, etc...
Well the weird thing was how the Indiana Jones auctions took off and I started getting all these international bids on it. It complicated things for me since I wasn't familiar with international shipping but anyways, I checked and they were all German. HUH! Then I realized for the first time that Indiana Jones must be completely banned in Germany.
Of course with Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls it really IS for their best that it remain banned...
Oh yeah? I'd like to see you get a legal copy of X-men the animated series. A fairly popular show that many here are familiar with but has never been sold on DVD and only a few episodes were ever sold on VHS. There's lots of other examples of shows and movies considered unprofitable and simply abandonned. I'm sure more than half of the movies and tv shows of the 80s and before are simply gone. Ever gone into the VHS section of an old movie rental chain? Hundreds of flicks you've never seen before and never will again because they were deemed unworthy of a DVD release.
The people I've met who still claim "altruism" is wasteful and stupid were all Ayn Rand fanatics who confuse their opinions with fact and 10 seconds of thinking with 'research'. They're quite a hoot, probably the reason they've never heard of things like the prisoners dilemma and are unaware of modern science is simply that SHE never wrote about those things.
If they're only missing one limb then scratching the other side usually makes it stop. Now if you've lost BOTH limbs to that terrible accident then... errrr... well there's always transcendental meditation.
The earliest I (or Wikipedia) can trace the intelligence explosion theory back to is Irving John Good who, in 1965
In Asimov's I, Robot series there's the idea of large computers that built larger and more powerful ones, which in term did the same thing until humans could no longer comprehend their operations. These computers were much smarter than basically the aggregate of human society. He didn't really go into it in depth, but the concept is there. Those short stories were written from 1940 - 1950 or so. Probably he stated it in the late 40's then.
They may be able to teach her sign language. Babies can sign much earlier than they can speak. Motor control of the hands is simpler than the vocal organs so once they can hold a bottle they can sign. Hope they've already tried this, or soon do.
So when you have (Bing is not Google)is not Google the double-negative cancels out and Bing IS Google, next for ((Bing is not Google) is not Google) is not Google the odd "is not Google" remains and indeed Bing is NOT Google.
That's from WHO in 2005, fairly reliable I'd say. The topic of distilled water drinking seems to be fairly controversial, I'm guessing it has to do with companies selling deionizing machines for thousands of dollars. There's also a lot of "natural health" folks with various opinions and websites claiming all kinds of stuff about waters, minerals and additives. Can be tricky with the signal to noise ratio as it is.
And here I haven't even heard of NSA-II yet and already we're on the third one?? I've seriously got to keep up on the news! But apparently they're "Suited for Domestic Cybersecurity Role" so maybe I should relax a little.
This method seems to result in pure distilled water which is generally considered harmful as your sole water supply. It's lacking in minerals that the body uses and also will turn acidic naturally. I guess since you're IN a desert though, they could scoop up a few spoonfuls of dirt and mix it in with your nice clear glass of fresh water.:-)
I see tons of comments saying it shouldn't be done because of Big Brother and it's future impact on society...
Guys... tracking people with GPS devices is like an atomic bomb, you can't just forget it and it'll go away. Millions of people have already thought of this, it's coming. You can moan and whine all you want, in a few years they will be selling these at Walmart in a nice easy to use package.
So instead of going "I won't make it, that's just helping Big Brother", why don't you be real geeks and do it because it CAN be done? Then being the alpha males in this area of technology you can clearly demonstrate the dangers of it simply and publicly BEFORE the tech is widespread.
I mean seriously... now your politics is getting in the way of your geek cred, time to turn in your cards. I never heard "Don't make a potato cannon, the feds could use that tech someday". We do a lot of stuff that's dangerous and stupid, don't let your distopian fears prevent you from getting a handle on real life social issues when you can have the most positive impact.
Me, I download movies and books since I don't have access to a library. If it's something I'd never ever buy and am curious about, I'll download it. Like Star Trek TOS is interesting now because of the movie, I'd watch it on TV but I don't have that either. I'm the sort of guy who will go in a book store, and read a whole book in a few hours. You know in a few years when more books, magazines and movies go pure digital libraries will be gone. Thanks to DRM.
No more loaning books or DVDs to your friends, "Pay up you crooks!"
I'm all by myself mapping Guyana so if you wanna keep me here...
Kidding!:)
But I am mapping Guyana and working on some advocacy posters to get some locals involved. Openstreetmap is such a great project, the data is open and can be used for anything. It allows places like this to get mapping done on their own because otherwise there isn't the commercial interest for it. I just did the small area known as Rosingol and part of New Amsterdam, they have NO MAPS there. None. I found someone in the area who was supportive of it and was able to have him drive me around all day twice now.
Guyana is a really neat place, one of the few unspoiled natural environments left. Not much tourism at all, now the government and locals want more of that for the investment that comes with it, but I'm sad to think of the negative affect it'll have on the environment.
Having no map was the scariest thing about coming to Guyana for me, and what led me to Openstreetmap. I'm really glad they got this project going and had all the tools I'd need ready to go. It also gives me a nice long term project for when I get bored or miss home there's something to work on.
Where you go to church and where I go both leave it a personal and anonymous matter, but plate-passing is a well known custom in many churches/religions. If people think everywhere is like that, we know it's because of "the few" (we can hope it's few). Perhaps it's our own fault for rushing to claim the title "Christian" which in many ways has been tainted.
It's just a marketing label now, everyone calls themselves Christian and you won't find an acceptable definition for it. Saying it means "to follow Christ" would mean that a majority don't qualify, if you say "believes in Christ" then most who claim it could qualify. Personally I think the former definition is the one to go by but that just offends people.
Inside Glass house + throwing stones = Death of 1,000 cuts.
That actually DOES sound like Microsoft these days.

11 year old dupe article.
Hmmm... as an aside... wonder why no posts there.
Finally! An article I can tag "Billy Jack". What?? You guys haven't seen BILLY JACK?!
It's so awful it's really good, just trust me on this, think MST3K with hippies instead of aliens.

I bet this all started when pictures of someone's boobies got online and mom & dad found out.
*Dad at work*
"Hey Jim, check out this boobie parade thing!"
"Whoah niiiice... wait-a... what the hell!! Susieeeeeee NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!"

I think with all the dead people dog food would be REALLY CHEAP

So 50% of the time Bing in fact IS Google.

Full-sized laptops don't fit in Smartcars. Especially with the loaf of French bread poking out of the trunk.
I'm pretty sure that what he's saying is all religions are equally invalid. It's like calling Christianity an old cult.

But if you know how to get that REM while awake instead, I'm listening.
I'd imagine it would be rather uncomfortable what with your eyes rapidly moving around and making everything wiggly.
I feel like I just listened to a 5 year old arguing to another 5 year old... "EVERYONE knows that YOUR operating system IS STOOOPED."
Why can't his operating system stand up straight?
