I remember seeing a similar ad in the theatres, it ended with some sort of slogan like :
"Don't download movies off the internet"
I couldn't believe what I was reading, so I said "Holy Shit! You can download movies off the internet?" As loud as I could. Since then I haven't seen the same ad in the theatre.
Don't forget CD, DVD, 3.5" floppies and MiniDisc (in japan)... all collosal failures right?
The CD was invented by Philips, not Sony. Also the DVD is the creation of the DVD Consortium, which Sony was a member of, but I wouldn't give them full credit.
Holding: Carbon dioxide is a pollutant...emissions can be regulated under the Clean Air Act. Perverse Outcome: Administrative rules could make it illegal to breathe.
I second the motion, provided that that executive branch, which is charged with enforcing the law, lead by example by being the first ones to comply.
Has anyone noticed that both instances of the word "filings" have been spelt "fillings"? That mercury-laden amalgam is sure to mess things up electronically:p
It's more efficient than that. In American healthcare, I've read that administration is about 25% of the total cost, due to insurance companies trying to get out of covering their customers. Up here, it runs at about 2%.
Yeah, that's right, the research concluded that "file sharing probably increases aggregate welfare." I'll bet if we all got drills & augers, we could get that into the brains of the people running the RIAA & MPAA.
I don't think mere drills and augers will work with them, I think that bunker busters are called for. People can't be made to publicly understand stuff that flies in the face of doctrine or their own interests.
"Then i sit through a commercial telling me that piracy is illegal and that i could go to jail."
Which is a pack of lies if you live in Canada (well currently, we will see what happens with future legislation). That is the most annoying and irritating thing to me. I paid to watch the movie, I am not pirating or "stealing" the movie (the adverts are "downloading is wrong..") why do you have to tell me not to, I'm there and paid for it. That's like a car salesman telling you that you should not steal cars because it is illegal before they let you take the keys to the car you just purchased .
The solution to say loudly in the theater "Holy Shit! You can download movies off the Internet!?" When the ads come on. If everyone starts saying that, the people who put the ads up will eventually have to re-think their strategy.
The 'is' thing is just him trying to justify it, later on. He's technically correct -- the best kind of correct -- but apparently it didn't pass the laugh test.
I never thought I'd see a Futurama reference like this in the thread.
The US used nuclear weapons as a legitimate military operation during wartime, in a war that was started by Japan.
I wholeheartedly agree, the hallmark of a legitimate military operation is using Weapons of Mass Destruction on civilian populations to bring their governments to their knees.
800 CA-based Siebel employees who held the job title 'software engineer' or 'senior software engineer' stand to pocket $27,000 each from the proceeds of Siebel's $27.5 settlement of an overtime dispute
Wow, 800 people getting $27k each from $27.50. It's obvious that Jesus is working at Siebel.

Agreed. An armed society is a polite society.
I totally agree with you, it's why the Western US in the period between 1865 and about 1890 was called the _Mild_ West.
CG animation uses a timeline as well as three dimensional coordinates, so 4d is technically correct.
Ahh yes, technically correct, which is the best kind of correct!

Or your doctor shoots you in the face.
Dr. Cheney, I presume?
The Three-Finger-Salute was invented at IBM, it even says so in the linked article.
Finally, Andrew Lloyd Webber's vision has come to fruition
What non-violent option was there to kick the Taliban out of Afghanistan or Saddam and his sons and cronies out of Iraq?
The non-violent option was to not fund or support either in the first place.

Now you understand, in some respect, the anger Americans feel toward the Kyoto Accords.
(not necessarily directed at you, antarctican, but the UN-loving, Gluteus Warming liberals out there)
I wouldn't think that Americans give a second thought to it, they're not signatories to the Accord.

What it comes down to is you cannot tax illegal behaviour.
So what you're saying is that it's unacceptable for a store to raise its prices in response to shoplifting?
Stores aren't in the business of legislating taxes, genius.
Finally, an internet service even a member of Congress can understand.
That depends. How are you at headshots with an AWP?
I don't think he mentioned wanting to be an "AWP c4mp1ng n000b".
But seriously, that was too funny!
Straight into the bargain bin!

Don't they call that terrorism these days?
Sure, it's called retirement. Next!

Swing has its ups and downs when it comes to internal design and implementation
(tough guy voice) So, we got a funny guy here, eh? *poke*
From the ReiserFS Wikipedia entry: "Hans Reiser ... is referred to as the project's Benevolent Dictator for Life."
The "benevolent" bit may need rethinking if the guy's convicted...
If he's convicted, you can probably scratch everything before "for Life".
Pyongyang is a city, not a dictator...
That's what he wants you to think.
