    The target is either all mmedia companies as a whole or none at all. Divx ;) is a scapegoat of sorts. Blame them for everything, sue 'em, get their technology, claim to improve it, make money off of it. Everybody wins, right? Yeah right...

    It'd be nice to see how Wine and PetrOS duke it out. YES, I am aware that PetrOS is a standalone OS, BUT they are trying to accomplish the same thing, namely the implementation, from scratch, of the windows api.

    Thank GOD they don't implement the kernel at the same. One step at a time. :) They'll either swap ideas or learn from each other's mistakes

    Sue MS? How can they? THey provide the OS? Go after apple or realnetworks? Can't either. Big mmedia companies who use their technologies. What does DiVX ;) use from the MPAA? Nothing.

    Drinking and writting don't mix. The MPAA uses nothing that DivX ;) offers. Apple and Real are big companies who's techologies are used by the MPAA as well.

    So while RealNetworks, MS and Quicktime aren't being yelled at for having similar products, a company who's completely open is being targeted? Isn't this hypocritical?


    Go after the small fry, sue the hell out of him, then taken their technology. Notice how mp3 companies are now now servants of the RIAA?

    The best solution is to get the enitre page to fit on the screen :)

    Identifying the problem is just as important as assessing it. What he's more saying is, which is right; unless we bring up the linux distributions or any 'free' open-source solution to the same bar that a 2 cd set of Windows and Office is, linux distributions will be an alternative solution vs a standard choice.

    I mean standard choice by, ok, you have a choice between windows and linux on your machine when you buy it. Choose one. Just like mac and pc's are. Now its more like, don't want windows? Try X.

    P.S. I'm a bsd advocate... this is prolly the most you'll hear me say positively about linux since i can't find one linux distrib i like.

    Just remember, its not the voltage that kills you, its the amperage. ;)


    (Actually, with enough voltage, you can kill someone, but lower voltages with high amperages can do the job nicely)

    No, comics are very successful for this reason. There's less to read since its put to pictures.

    Explain why penny-arcade, sluggy, userfriendly, its walky! are HUGE successes.

    Now explain why slashdot'ers don't read the articles. too much content.

    We need something just like passport which acts a more like kerberos. Where the server gives authentication tickets that expire, like cookies but it is not done via a redirect. If say, te third party client could do the request on their behalf, it wouldn' tbe as bad.

    Another option would be different passwords for different uses. Of course my email password might be a little easier than say, the password for stuff i use my credit card number. Better yet, I might actually want to use a different password for everything. An option similar to RSA/DSA keys used with SSH. You don't need to use the key pasword you set on the server, but can use the password you used to create a particular keypair.
