Yes you are unusual. I shut down my work PC when I leave at night. I shut down my laptop when I put it back into the case. Netbooks are also shutdown when you put them away. Even you might shutdown your PC to save some power if it didn't take very long to power it back up.
Yep pretty much. All this does is make sure that the next person will just post it to Flicker, Wikileaks, or just delete it.
Should have been very nice, even grateful, did everything you suggested and offered him a nice reward on top of it. Then put the idiot that sold the camera in jail for 30 years.
Yes it is very sad the way the handled this. This man should be considered a hero and be given respect and a reward. Hate to say it but even I will just delete the data if it happens to me.
Probably not but most people I know don't bother to clean their drives before they dispose of them. Buying old kit on Ebay will probably get you more than a few HDs that have data on them.
Not to hard just don't drives twice from anybody that sells you clean drives. Not too hard. Could also be a sting operation. Put out drives with flagged credit card and bank account info on them. Heck the FBI could populate all the drives get ride of with flagged data and just wait.
Just how many people buy hard drives just to mine them for data? 1. Buy the drives on Ebay 2. Scan drives for valuable data. 3. Sell cleaned drives on Ebay and sell data to the highest bidder. 4. Profit.
Not very often. I am actually more liberal than most when it comes to illegals. I would like to see ways for them to become documented and stay. If they where documented they couldn't be so easy to exploit and under pay. As a whole they are not here for welfare but to honestly make a better life for themselves. The US really doesn't go whole hog to catch illegals. Local police don't even really try very hard well not very often anyway. Let's face it the US and Mexican boarder has been pretty open for a long time. I just would like to see them come here legally and not get exploited.
Actually I think every developer should do a year or two in end user technical support. All too often there is a disconnect between those that design and code software and the end user. If this person worked their way though school doing tech support than that is great.
But don't you have to use Objective C for Cocoa? And you must be on a Mac. I have heard nothing but good things about Cocoa and OpenStep but being limited to Objective C is a problem for me.
"I remember when C/C++/ASM programming was fun to hack, until the age of monolithic libraries like MFC and OWL (and now things like the JDK and.Net) came and ruined that fun by restricting your freedom. " Huh???? You know that you don't have to use them. They are an option. Options means more freedoms not less. Oh MFC sucks really bad. It has a fair amount of bugs and is being replaced by.NET . I have no opinion on the new frame work since I don't use it. Hey you can still use Win32 if you want under windows. I know people that swear by it. As well as at it.
I don't know if it is true or not but yes the DS is a pure cash cow. That is why they would do it. People will line up around the corner to get this. Nintendo will make a bigger mint. And the RnD will not cost that much. Nintendo has to keep the RnD department working anyway so why not push a new improved DS out the door. Heck people go nuts for a new Color of DS much like the IPod so why not a refresh. They might even cost less to make then the old ones as well.
I could see Apple selling it for around the same $400-$500 that Most netbooks seem to be at how. Apple might have a way to make it cheaper. ITunes as a way to buy software. I have never understood why Apple has not extended ITunes to software for the Mac. It is a great marketing system for both the software producers and Apple.
Interesting. Exactly when was the last time a US spacewalk was news? Maybe back in 1965 or so? So the US is now putting rovers on Mars and sending a probe to Pluto. Manned space flight in the US has not really progresed enough over the years. But as far as being a space has been I just don't think so. Call me when China gets to Jupiter.
While I am a Linux user I have to say that there is another option. How about OS/X? Apple has shown that OS/X can run on some pretty low end hardware like the iPhone. Apple could come out with a Netbook to fill out their lineup.
Well you can question anything but there are some facts. Observational data can provide facts. Things like the Earth is roughly spherical is a good example. Or sunlight is reaching the Earth is also a fact. Will if it daytime where you are at. You can make observations and those can be facts. But when real scientists add theory to it. Then they are making a statement that it is a theory. The problem are the two groups of none scientists. The ones that think that theory means guess. And that one theory is as good as another. Then the other group. The ones that think that theory means fact. What makes me so angery is those tend to fill Slashdot and have no doubt that they understand science.
"Oh yeah? Not even the theory of gravity?" Nope it was tossed out once already. Newtons "laws" of gravity failed to predict the orbit of Mercury. "Or the theory of heliocentrism?" Not a theory. Been proven by observation. BTW you know that that first version had the Sun at the center of the Universe. "And quantum theory? Way wacky, as theories goes/" Why do you think we have places like CERN? Yes Quantum theory is very useful but there is a good chance it will go the way of Newtonian physics as well. It fails to work for gravity much like Newtons laws failed for the Orbit of Mercury. But just as Newtons laws are good enough for many things so is quantum physics. But it is an incomplete theory but it is the best framework that we have. It isn't a fact because it is still being refined. People need to stop worshiping science "and patting themselves on the back for doing so" and actually learn it.
No I didn't talk about the fact at all. The article wasn't talking about observed evolution at all. It was talking about the Theory of Evolution and how it could be taken as fact. I was only addressing what was in the article.
Yes I agree. They are not nonexistent they are just limited to that which can be observed. If you combine a solution of HCL and NaOH you will have an endothermic reaction and solution of NaCL. At least within the realm of quantum uncertainty. "Yes I will ignore that level of quantum effects" So that is a fact. But to say that the Theory of Evolution can safely be treated as a fact isn't science. As Big Al said. " A million people can not prove me right. On person cam prove me wrong." That is science.
No. You are confusing the Theory of Evolution with evolution. We know that life can evolve as a fact. As I have posted elsewhere drug resistant bacteria are a great example of evolution. The Theory of Evolution is how life can go from simple compounds to every form of life that is currently on the Earth. That is the Theory of Evolution. And it is theory that has a lot of evidence. It has a HUGE amount of evidence when you compare it to IE. But it can not be safely treated as a fact and still be called science.
"Yes, the observational portions of the Theory of Evolution can, indeed, be treated as fact because, well, they are." No the obervations maybe treated as fact. That they are evidence in support of the Theory of Evolution is also a fact. The Theory of Evolution is currently the best supported theory of how life developed and changes on Earth.
But it is never "safe" to treat any theory as fact. Oh I will state that evolution is fact since it has been observed. Things like bacteria becoming resistant to drugs is a great case of observed evolution. But that Theory of Evolution going back to the beginning of the Earth is still a Scientific theory. Just the best supported theory that really does fit well with the data we have. What the creationists are trying to teach is a theory that has very little data. Actually I have seen none that is creditable so frankly the only way that it can be taught in a science class is simply this. "Creationism or if you like Intelligent Design is a theory of the origin of life on Earth. It currently has no creditable evidence." So yes I am all for teaching it in a science class. And that is the science I am sorry to say.
Before the mindless pro science zelots go off on their little snits. I will state the simple truth. There is no creditable evidence for creationism and it can not be taught in school as a theory of equal standing with Evolution.
But this little bit from the story makes my blood run cold as well. "The scientific community has very valid reasons for accepting evolution as an accurate description of the history and current development of life on earth," Yes this is right. " reasons that are so so compelling that aspects of the theory can be safely treated as fact." NO! NO! NO! NO! No theory in science can be safely treated as fact. A fact is something that is proven and not open to question.
In science every theory is disposable. Newtons theory of gravity worked for a long time but we had to toss it when it started to fail. It wasn't the truth. It was the nearest that we could get to the truth at that time. Evolution right now is the closest we can get to the truth at this time. We are refining it all the time and hopefully getting closer and closer to the truth. And please quite calling the people that believe in it stupid. Frankly most of the people that will post how stupid they are have just about the same depth of knowledge as the people that believe in creationism. They just have happened to have guess right in this subject.
Really? You know this? I just wouldn't bet on it. Under Clinton we never stopped attacking Iraq for eight years we where flying combat aircraft over Iraq and dropping bombs. Then under Clinton/Gore we launched cruise missile attacks because we thought the Sudan where building WMDs... The Attack on 9/11 would have probably still happened. After the planning started way before GWB was elected. The war in Iraq had almost universal support from both sides of the house.
That statment has no real evidence to back it up and unless you got a great deal on a Time Tunnle or a Crystal Ball...

GnuStep may be an option for you.
It works on Linux.
