Ah, the things you learn about philosophy and theology from comic stips.

But you always could record something on a limited budget. I'm recording on a 4track and a small mixer which in total cost 200$

I'm not very good (which is why I've not forked out a huge amount on equipment) but I know a few good quality bands in the underground circuit that are recording on the same sort of stuff and sound good. The quality of the tune is more important than the quality of the production.

  3. Re:Yes, you probably can! on The Incredible Shrinking Recording Studio · · Score: 2, Interesting

I set up a small recording system (to small and insignificant to call it a studio) with my laptop and Nuendo. I tried recording some stuff and really, I didn't like using it, I was much more comfortable with my old 4track tape recorder and 6 channel mixer than a mouse and computer.

I guess you use what you're comfortable with and screw what's "cool" to use.

Afghanistan: No better off than it was. Women are not any freer, Taliban support is on the rise, and the warlords (who were the US's allies in the whole thing) are just the same as the Taliban.

Iraq: Hardly a "fairly bustling place" when most of Baghdad has no electricity. And with the number of accidently civilian deaths that are occurring still quite high, I don't think the army there is really doing all that good a job.

As for the lies that led "everyone" (where everyone is the UK and the US) into the war in Iraq, I could forgive Bush the person, as really, I think he's just a clueless puppet. I would refer more to "The lies the Bush administration told", because thats what you're really electing when you vote for Bush. There are numerous references that indicate that the lack of weapons of mass destruction was known, and that they were never the point of the matter. Cheney is still trotting out stories about them now, even though its fairly conclusive that they're not there. I could go on, but I won't.

But hey, at least he didn't get his intern to suck his dick, so I guess he's all good.

I'm not trying to troll you or anything, but how, as a Christian, can you support Bush after the atrocities he's spent the last 3 years creating, and after all the outright lies he's told?

I know, that as a Christian, I'm not voting for Tony Blair (I wouldn't vote for Bush either, but I'm not American, so that's a fairly moot point) no matter how many times he plays the God-fearin' church-goin' card that he likes so much because frankly, the way he handles the situations he's faced with makes me sick.

Radiohead are a non evil band?
Radiohead are the band the execs love, simply because they preach about how evil the labels are, but allow the labels to do pretty much whatever they want.

Hail to the Thief was defintely one of the most hyped, marketed and pushed albums this year. The hypocrisy and untruths that come out of Thom Yorke's mouth at times amazes me.

That might be kinda cool if you can persuade them to do it. Even if /. don't post it, I'd be interested in it.

I understand that the original films that these remakes are from are not overly innovative or anything, I think I feel that something more creative and more innovative could come from creating everything yourself, rather than taking worlds and characters people have already created and shoehorning your ideas into them. Maybe its just a different type of creativity, but I don't know.

I felt the same way after coming out of Italian Job (2003). It was a damn cool film, but I felt it had enough ideas and plot to make it a seperate film in its own right, rather than being hailed as an Italian Job remake.

And currently the best films I've seen all year have been the alternative films that I've seen in the local arthouse cinema: Good Bye Lenin! being the more recent. Check it out if you get the chance.

  10. Guerrila Film makers on Fanimatrix - The Matrix Re-done By Fans · · Score: 5, Insightful

From the trailer it looks like they're competent film makers. I can't comment on the storyline, cos really, the trailer doesn't actually say much about it, its just showing "Look we can copy the stuff the Matrix did".

I was going to complain about "Why don't these people write their own stories, based on their own created characters, etc etc, then we might have some new worthwhile cinema and new ideas coming though", but I guess there are people who do that, they just don't get on the front page of /.

I dunno, I guess I have the same feeling about professional cover bands too.

I'm with you on this one.
I enjoyed the first one, didn't think it was wonderful, the effects were cool, interesting ideas, the fighting was awful and looked very wooden.

I almost fell asleep during the second one, the only bit which was cool was the car chase scene, and even then I sat there thinking "So, thats what you can do with 60,000,000$". The fight scenes though were too long, repetitive and boring, and all the philosphy seemed to be a fairly simple concept wrapped up in lots of long words to make it sound deep.

Enh, yeah, I'm sure a friend will buy the DVD and I'll watch that.
