The fact that you can use the phrase "objective journalism" with a straight fucking face after an election where CNN political reporters were openly shitposting against Trump on their twitter feeds - twitter feeds with their actual names and faces and jobs listed right in the profile - speaks volumes. Sad, depressing, volumes. A talk show on MSNBC mentioned the "end zone dances on Twitter" and the "back-slapping" that political beat reporters were doing, and you're going to sit here and fucking tell me about objective journalism?

I've got a Journalism degree from Eastern Michigan. I know what objective journalism is. And this election fucking buried it six feet deep.

  12. Ah yes, the Washington Post, perhaps the most virulent and rabid anti-Trump publication, eclipsing even CNN in the vitriol and shameless bias it displayed in its coverage.

  13. "Fake news galvanized US president-elect Donald Trump's supporters, and sullied his enemies"

I'm fucking sick of this narrativr being pushed on Slashdot. Your first clue that it's politically motivated should have been President Obama using his presidential podium to bitch about it. Your latest should have been how quickly China latched onto the bandwagon. Those with longer memories might recall that China has enforced internet censorship using this exact rationale before; "anti-social misinformation." But "fake news" is much more succinct - it implies that "real news" can only come from "real news sources." Coincidentally this endless propaganda blitz only started after it was revealed how much election info people got from their friends on Facebook. It's yet another media attempt to solidify - nay reclaim - their oligarchal status as outlets that people trusted implicitly. One need look no further than their current behavior - where they are issuing hysterical semons about Trump being "the least transparent President in history" because he didn't inform the media before stepping out for a fucking steak dinner - to see the depths of their panic. After a campaign season where they dropped the last pretenses of objectivity and did their level best to destroy Trump - only to see him win the Presidency - they know their former sainted and respected status as Messengers From Olympus is no more. They can shriek and rage and stomp their feet all they want but nothing will change this. Trump uses Twitter to speak to the masses directly, which underscores the point: they are not just no longer trusted, but no longer needed.

No number of propaganda articles will change that.

No, sand wouldn't work just as well. Commercial aircraft are big and heavy enough that their tires would just compress the sand underneath it, accomplishing little. Plus, the purpose-built technology is probably designed to do minimal damage to the aircraft as well, which is a significant benefit.

"Lone gunman?" "Lone hero?" Who ever said anything about that? This is a strawman, and a poor one. Resistance of possible tyranny or foreign military invasion has never, ever been predicated on a "lone gunman," which is why the Second Amendment specifically mentions "militia."

As for Pinochet, the arms confiscations and gun control policies implemented by his vicious and dictatorial regime are one of the most oft-cited examples of how gun control and tyranny go hand-in-hand. Please educate yourself before you deign to lecture others.

And what possible difference would it make if we did? Do you have any idea what you're chances are against a modern, mechanized army?

Police are needed to maintain a police state. And no matter how many police you have, they are always greatly outnumbered by the people, which is why it is vital for police in a police state to have automatic weapons and for the oppressed people to have nothing but their limp dicks.

An armed populace makes enforcement of a police state impossible by default.
