Please don't do the boring "Europe is smarter" thing. If you guys were so smart historically, Europeans wouldn't have fled to the Americas to start a new life in the 1700s through 1800s and we wouldn't have had to bail your chestnuts out of the fire in WWI, WWII and with the Soviet Empire.
If you want to be "superior" don't talk, just prove it...
You can do this by solving Greece's problems, or Italy's or Spain's or get major credit and "solve" Iran or North Korea.
Talk is cheap, if you want to be "superior", lead by example and solve some problems in this world for real... instead of talking it up --- anyone can do that and talk is cheap.
The only problem is that, sadly, people aren't going to care. From DRM in games to privacy-exploitation in Facebook/Google/... people *will* buy and play these games.
Most people have an internet connection available and might complain, but they'll go along with it. And game makers will get their live-DRM.
It is going to happen and it won't be stopped. --- But this doesn't mean the end of the world, you personally don't have to go along with this and there will always be games on PCs, etc.
But consoles?
Yes.. their device, their rules... and they have big marketing budgets.
first the media "journalists" don't know shit about history(about how people used to fuel a resistance with bike shop built guns and gangs used to use home built zip guns in fifties) and who think that their readers are different than the readers of the 423432 other news sources..
Yes, "journalists" don't know anything about history, but history is constantly circling the drain.
Everyone must perpetually remind each other of small pieces of history to keep the working body of knowledge alive. Case in point, I wasn't aware of what you posted --- how could I be? Too much history.
But what negates this an open and receptive mind. Often "journalists" are pea-pod people --- surrounded by like-minded undiverse opinions.
Ah... classic rules of media 101. I suppose eyeballs count for something --- err actually everything --- in an advertising supported site.
Lesson learned, mystery solved.
No one needs the ability to exercise lethal force, much less the ability to casually produce the tools that do so.
The Sherriff of Nottingham and Ghengis Khan didn't need guns to exercise lethal force.
Hammer, knife, iron pipe, strangulation, pushed from a roof-top.
I would rather be robbed by a guy with a gun than a guy with a tire iron. The guy with the gun probably won't shoot if I cooperate, besides it is noisy and he can flee without worrying I would follow him.
The guy with the tire iron might crack me over the head before making his getaway.
They actually make things worse, since any owner of a domain is forced to buy several TLD versions of their domain.
Your point is on the mark, yet the argument is a bit invalid. Facebook becomes popular, company has to get its own name on Facebook. Twitter becomes popular, has to get own name on Twitter. Mobile becomes the new thing, company needs to ensure branding of mobile app. Nothing new here.
The benefit to the market is free revenue from obsessive goofy companies that feel they need to own their name with every single TLD possible.
This really isn't necessary, but free money from misguided companies is a good thing. If they are going to obsess about the wrong things in the world, they might as well be a source of plunder for their obsession.
Guns and boots on the ground don't solve everything, but dismissing the aggressive approach to aggressive countries is counterproductive.
Third world countries are generally third world countries because they are prone to uncivilized and backwards politics and agendas.
If you don't keep an eye on them, they not only will tend to strong arm tactics towards their people, but externalize the source of the problems to first world countries leading to aggression. Like North Korea did little more than a week ago, like Libya once was fond of doing, etc.
A) You are smart, but not so smart that you are part of the solution. No, you intelligence is not high enough to escape the gravity well of being part of the problem. You, sir, are part of the problem.
B) Tax is paid by humans. If it is complicated, it is doing no one a favor.
C) Requiring a textbook to figure out taxes is a fail.
But most importantly...
D) Please have nice hot cup of shut the fuck up. Seriously, your over-thinking isn't helping. It really isn't. Go find a hobby that isn't destructive to other members of your species.
If so, why didn't they switch to open source during the "good times"?
I'm just pointing out that if open source has merit, why should it take a budget crisis?
Go win that fight. I think most informed people understand the underlying issues with the Euro.
I'd start with some marketing. And add some promotion into the mix.
[Stupid question deserves stupid answer. Really.]

File "Betteridge's law of headlines" along with "All Your Base" jokes, Star Trek SNG Picard jokes, "But does it blend?" jokes ...
And everything else long past its expiration date.
Journalism wasn't invented in the last 10 years, and no number of cargo cultist "link repeating doorknobs" will make it so ...
Nobody knows what role Blackberry can fill in the world. But they are making progress getting there.
Perhaps in the future we will understand their quote unquote "plan".
They need to do this to mosquitoes, let the modification spread around several generations and make a better world ...
Star Wars happened "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away ..."

Not sure why you want rapists and other criminals to have easier access to victims? That's always been kind of baffling.
Nice! I have never understood this sentiment either.
Criminals prey on the weak and defenseless. Police show up *after* a crime has occurred, police cannot be relied on to prevent all crime.
But is this really the only use for a 3D printer?
Please no more eiffel tower pics either. k thx bye ...

And munchins of many various sizes groan at the unfunny.
And hopefully, slapped in the face with a fish. One of the prickly fish, if there is justice in this world.
The End.

What is 6 times ... ah .. nevermind.
Epic fail of trying to be funny. Hint: I groaned at the unfunny.
Today, I'm not sure what they are. I don't think they know either.
I wish they went back to being a software company, the world needs it. But it won't happen.
