You do not go there to trained in something like auto mechanics. All of the degrees you listed will be valued at about the same level. Above that are the hard sciences like physics and mathmatics and some engineering degrees. (Sorry if I piss some people off here).
The other most important aspect of your degree is where you get it. Podunk U. does not carry the same weight as Stanford or MIT.
My degree is in Electrical Engineering from Texas A & M. I've been offered plenty of IT jobs from fellow alumni based on those credentials alone; they knew I could get the job done.
Your degree should be thought of as credentials, not as trade school training. And all of the degrees you mentioned carrry similar weight in credentials.
As that goes, if your just picking one, pick the easiest for you. Good at math? CS. Remember well? MIS. so on.
Ima gonna git me somma that sniffer stuff and catch me a terrorist, what with the rewards they're offering. Never mind I'm not the FBI, all's fair in love and the war against Terrorism.
My great-great-great grandfather back in 1802 patented the "use of any human male sex organ with regard to a female orifice". I'm just biding my time until I clean up, lawyers at the ready.
I'm proud to say it took more than a flashy pair of tits to wipe me out. I sampled all of her body parts before I came to broke. At least that's the way I remember it.
I used FVWM back in '93 when I first install slack and *finally* got X configured. There was no choice in window managers, but then I didn't mind.
Now I use KDE and I'm proud of the fact that I get more eye-candy than my wife's M$ crap. Plus more stability and productivity. And I still use the command line. And more choices except for games. Her favorite game? Shisen Sho off of my box to her Win box thru a VNC connection.
An old carpenter I worked with almost 30 years ago told me "if it don't come out in the wash, it comes out in the rinsin'".
All of us that use and enjoy KDE owe thanks to those that contribute, regardless of whatever went on before they bring code to the table for us to share.
They're gonna tell everyone that I don't call anybody? Might as well just stand on the street corner and shout out that I'm the socially inadaquate being that I am. Hmmph. They're off next years Chritmas card list for sure. That is if I had a Christmas card list.
I've been trying for half an hour to read Joe Barr's article. I can't because it's Slashdotted. He's a Texan over in the Austin/San Antonio area. I'm a Texan here in Houston and native in that I grew up around Tyler, Tx. Therefore unless you are a Texan I am more deserving of you and you should BACK OFF so I can read the article.
When was MS behind? They went from nothing to being put on every PC that IBM manufactured. And the success of the PC at that point was due to Lotus 123, plus a couple of Wordprocessors, neither of which came from MS.
You can troll but you can't type. The "e" comes after the "v" in "have".
My web pages are still up at http://bryanpatrick.com last I checked. I haven't been squashed by the big boys yet. Altho it does cost me a pretty penny to get my self aggrandizing message out.
Loved the "I remember when" comments. Nobody mentioned when a "page" was a "post" on usenet and the web was just an experiment that everyone used lynx (a text based browser) to access. You guys and gals. What a bunch. No wonder I keep coming back.
I've been doing corp-to-corp or W-2 for years. I figure the difference at 10%. I have recruiters who have over the years become friends. They confide in me that they figure it that way too. They give me the option, corp-to-corp at one rate or W-2 at 10% off. They will not do independant contractor. Not in Houston, anyway, you can't find much of anyone who'll take you up on it. Too much of a burn with the IRS.
I used to take the corp route because I wanted the deductions, and if the job involves travel I still do. But otherwise I save myself the hassle of all of the bookkeeping and invoicing and expense of an accountant and take the W-2. Like I said, I've been doing this for a few years.
But no way I'd shave off 38% off of the top for a few minutes with a spreadsheet or accounting package, and a 30 minute meeting with my accountant once a month. You didn't tell us what kind of rate you were talking about, but at my rate it don't fly.
I don't "do" Windows. Unless I find it bent over. Especially if it has that nice new Telly Tubbies world for background flying. Luv that stuff.
They're cheap with their own money. Not with the company's. I had a friend "tighter than the bark on a tree". Brought his P&J sandwich everyday to work and saved the paper sack. Payed off his mortgage on his four bedroom house when he was 26. But when he traveled on the company tab he stayed at the Hilton and ate steak and lobster at the best restaurant.
I still miss Impossible Mission on the Commidore 64. I have an emulator but it just doesn't run rite. This was the one game that blew my skirt up. Many an hour.
I wished they would re-release the game for linux. I'd pay money. Mucho bucks.
I couldn't help but notice your email return. How's it feel knowing that a significant percentage of the people you were adressing may be able to read your email?
Doesn't matter what kind of watch.. mechanical, quartz electric, even digital. Seems like we had the best luck in terms of MTBF with a pocket watch, but even that ran backwards after a while.
When I first started making a little money I bought my Father a watch for his birthday, because I noticed he didn't have one. He accepted the gift graciously and explained the reason he didn't wear watches was his problem with them in the past and "maybe this one would be different". It wasn't. Within a couple of days he took it off of his wrist and showed me the second hand running counter-clockwise. It was a quartz electric. Years later I got him a scrictly mechanical pocket watch. Lasted longer, but same result. Digital? Nope. Just stops or gets even flakier about the display.
He's a wonderful, generous, Christian man that just minds his business and is always quick to lend a hand to those around him. He just can't wear watches.
Good for Mosfet for moving on. I haven't used his work but I've run into his words out here and I respect him.
I'm a contract whore. Sometimes I get paid immediately and sometimes it's 30-days net. Whatever the arrangement, if it's more than a week late or if there are any problems with the check.... then all work stops until its cleared up. No exceptions. Anything else is working for a promise, which is not much better than working for free. It's happened before. I'm sure It'll happen again. You just pick yourself up and move on.
IEEE code of conduct sez ya don't sell yer wares on the cheap. And I would venture to say that even most EE's that don't belong to IEEE still subscribe to their code of conduct.
I did that long ago. My wife drives me everywhere. See me now? now?
Yes. Because when we can STAMP YOUR FOREHEAD with an identifying number then ALL YOUR BITS ARE BELONG TO US.

Maybe I aught to keep the dog in the house until all is clear.

IPO forthcoming (in my dreams).
...and my soul is still intact.
Also, based on M$ previous claims this will surely prove to be so much blubber.
Ima gonna git me somma that sniffer stuff and catch me a terrorist, what with the rewards they're offering. Never mind I'm not the FBI, all's fair in love and the war against Terrorism.
Look out neighbors, here I come.

I was having a good day.
Now I'm sitting at my computer staring into space having nightnares in the daytime.
I'm proud to say it took more than a flashy pair of tits to wipe me out. I sampled all of her body parts before I came to broke. At least that's the way I remember it.

The phrase "use it or lose it" comes to mind.

Thank you for your consideration.

I'm pretty sure I paid $10 for the two I have. Each.
