Since MS makes no guarantees, even to Licensing 6.0 customers, this could turn into a headache. You pony up the $$$ for SA and it turns out they slide the release date out past your SA end date. So sorry, want to renew? While Microsoft intends to continue to upgrade and enhance its products, Microsoft does not guarantee that a new version of any particular product will be released within any specific period of time.

You can do #1 already. My TiVo has dual tuners so I can watch one channel and record another. If you don't have dual tuners, then you can record a channel and watch a pre-recorded show.
As to #3, I don't care to record HDTV, but I would like a HD decoder built in. Once I got my TiVo I've not turned on my Proscan HD decoder since. It just collects dust until something really good comes on in HD (like Band of Brothers).
Read below, if you use the built in search tool and search the internet (not files), it does send a lot of info back to MS.
Personally, I would not want them logging jack, but since I don't use XP....
"When you search the Internet using the Search Companion, the following information is collected regarding your use of the service: your IP address, the text of your Internet search query, grammatical information about the query, the list of tasks which the Search Companion Web service recommends, and any tasks you select from the recommendation list."
Here is a (probably incomplete) list of ways Windows XP tries to connect each user's computer to Microsoft's computers, or expects to be allowed through the user's software firewall:
1. Application Layer Gateway Service (Requires server rights.)
2. Fax Service
3. File Signature Verification
4. Generic Host Process for Win32 Services (Requires server rights.)
5. Microsoft Direct Play Voice Test
6. Microsoft Help and Support Center
7. Microsoft Help Center Hosting Server (Wants server rights.)
8. Microsoft Management Console
9. Microsoft Media Player (Tells Microsoft the music and videos you like. See the February 20, 2002 Security Focus article Why is Microsoft watching us watch DVD movies? [securityfocus.com].)
10. Microsoft Network Availability Test
11. Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service
12. Microsoft Windows Media Configuration Utility (Setup_wm.exe, sometimes runs when you use Windows Media Player.)
13. MS DTC Console program
14. Run DLL as an app (There is no indication about which DLL or which function in the DLL.)
15. Services and Controller app
16. Time Service, sets the time on your computer from Microsoft's computer. (This can be changed to get the time from another time server.)
This set has all that you would expect of any feature-packed DVDs, including deleted scenes, outtakes, original trailers, and behind the scenes features. The movies themselves contain additional commentaries, and an option that pops up an icon for additional production notes and factoids during viewing. Even the deleted scenes have an option for viewing with commentary by Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale.
I used the 800mhz Eden to put together a great Jukebox. The digital coax out to my receiver works like a charm.
Having all my music on-line and ready to be played on any PC in the house is pretty nice.

Who do you trust:
1) Google
2) Microsoft

That is *a lot* of tracking they do.

That and more goodies on http://www.hevanet.com/
Personal preference I guess.
:)
I always read through the books on the shelf in the category that I'm looking for...I stand there for hours until my feet hurt
It was hard to not get a few of the Sun Java books.
The Rox Press books are good too.
But, there is just something about the O'Reilly books that my brain can digest.
Can't say I have any other book on my shelf. Fourteen in all (I just switched from Apache/mod_perl to Java/J2EE).
Each time I go get a new book, I check everything on the shelf. I *always* end up with a O'Reilly.
They are just too dang expensive.
Drop the price, like a THOUSAND dollars, and I'll bet they move like hotcakes.
Ha, good point.
Sorta like those beach balls that hover over the fans I see in Target every summer.
When can I get one that hovers in space, all on its own, with no cords?
Heh.

Linux spam? Really? I've not seen one.
:>)
I get plenty of Norton spams, I won't buy a product from them either.
(I know what impression I operate under
I was in Fry's and they had a little table setup so you could play with them.
Cute, but they can keep them.
The spammers have hit me at least once a day since middle November.
No way would I buy one.
I can't wait for Notepad to get ported, the true killer app.
I *need* ^Ms at the end of every line, don't you?
Can I use it as a sub-woofer?
Har, har.
I've got nothing.
I hear 'ya, but, I see what he was saying. On my Solaris/X86 8.0 system, 'uname -a' says:
SunOS www 5.8 Generic i86pc i386 i86pc
I think you are comparing Sun hardware SMP to linux x86 SMP, which is not the same thing.
Not really, X86 SMP is much better than any other PC UNIX SMP.
Go read the X86 mail list for *many* examples.
You're right though, X86 is SUN's redheaded-step-child.
By 2.6->8.0, do you mean Solaris 2.6 to Solaris 2.8
Yup!
I found Solaris/X86 (2.6->8.0) pretty stable.
In fact, it has been rock solid.
More so than Linux (Mandrake 8.2) on the very same hardware (serverworks mobos).
What exactly are they discounting?
I though the price stays the same, but you have a longer period to pay for it.
Does anyone know exactly how much a 3yr SA license for XP Home costs?
Damn you MrEd, you beat me to it.
