No, it's the reporter who doesn't get it. Microsoft has been distributing software under GPL for some time with SFU, and the sources have been made available. Someone included the URL to the GPLed sources they use earlier. No complaints there.
Wine hasn't been under the LGPL from the beginning (which dates far far back to the 90's). WineX is derived from Wine from the era it was still licensed under the X11 license that allows this. The main Wine tree was re-licensed under LGPL partly due to TransGaming's actions (they promised to contribute all their changes back to the main Wine tree but they didn't) and some of the Wine developers wanted to prevent similar from happening from in the future and thus they changed the license to LGPL under which, as you stated, that couldn't happen. Not all developers agreed that Wine should be under LGPL so another fork, ReWind was made that continues to use the X11 license. Interesting is that the LGPL'ed main tree can pull patches from ReWind but not vice-versa. Most contributors to Wine however dual-license their patches so that both trees can benefit from the efforts (and also WineX since TransGaming can use source from the ReWind tree if they want to).
There has been a working and tested IPSec implementation from Kame Project in the vanilla Linux kernel for some time now. Why go with a competing and conflicting IPSec implementation that was once formed because the official Linus tree lacked the support. Diversity is a richness etc. on but in this case I feel like these efforts seem fruitless. But big companies such as Novell don't do things because they just can so maybe there's something I don't quite get. I'd love to be englightened, though.
I thought the principle of Open Source was anyone can use it however the hell they please.
I guess you could (over)simplify that this is the spirit of Open Source. However, this certainly is not the spirit of Free Software where free software must remain free.

Uh no. This is a client side application, OpenGL bindings for PHP. You can't use it with a web server so that it renders some polygons into client's browser window. Sheesh.
Games, sure as an aid in teaching for 12-year old pupils but for high school and college students? Come on, are things so bad that reading books is something impossible for a 18-year old? Don't get me wrong, I'm a 23-year old computer science and political science student and I love playing Civilization and/or whatever mainstream game you throw at me but for studying things I still prefer resorting to something more conventional ways such as a visit to library of the faculty.

Yes, but these guys must be quite specialists of national security since they have the nerve to question the doings of this governmental organization with track record for not having that nonchalant attitude towards security issues:)
It'll only break if you choose the new CONFIG_4KSTACKS option (use 4Kb for kernel stacks instead of 8Kb under the Kernel hacking menu of menuconfig). Leave that option unchecked and it should work just fine (I'm using 2.6.6-rc3-mm1 right now with NVIDIA's driver).
IRC is actually even older than that and it was invented by a fellow called Jarkko Oikarinen in University of Oulu in Finland in August 1988. Read about it here. First servers that formed the the original IRC network are still online participating the IRCnet network.
Oh, come on, stop spreading that FUD. That was proved to be false long time ago. It's not Nokias that explode, it's the crappy 3rd party batteries that do.
Because in order to protect their DRM secrets (or that's what they'll tell you) you'll be offered with the operating system/environment of the choice of the companies backing up these systems. Take it or leave it. Ok it's not an issue with phones (most probably wouldn't run your favourite free operating system with it anyway) but the thing is quite different when these schemes are made mendatory on general purpose devices. No more Linux (or similar, just an example) since it's not "trusted". That's why you might want to be critical from the beginning or soon you'll have no choice if you take everything that you're offered without questions.
You can run GNOME (and KDE too, if you wish) with Mac OS X already with fink, if you wish. I don't think they've upgraded to 2.6 just yet but 2.4 is there and with no doubt, soon they'll finish packages for 2.6. Apple's X11 server has a full screen mode where you can start a GNOME session without interference with OS X session and you can switch back and forth between the two desktops. So grab fink, switch to unstable tree and run sudo fink install gnome. It'll take some time because it compiles from the source though.
Looks like things are (hopefully) getting better with GNOME 2.8. Just released GNOME 2.7.4 seems to have first implementation of the new MIME system which was proposed and described here.

They already did that about a year ago.

MLDonkey written in OCAML, not Python.

And that someone would be Andrew Morton.

Does anyone have suggestions besides use MySQL?
Sure. Use PostgreSQL.
Umm, IRCnet website is actually located at http://www.ircnet.net.

If they didn't find it worth to implement but you do, then go ahead and do it. It's free software after all.
The holy penguin, as usual.

It was fast for me :)

Not that I care but looks like Slackware is sticking with XFree86 4.4.0.

Yeah, it's a notorious fact that Russians suck in the art of making PC games
