Dunno, they inducted World of Warcraft, but not Everquest. Not even mentioning EQ on the write up (though conspicuously referencing Ultima Online.)
WoW was certainly influential, but in no way, shape, or form was it more influential than the original Everquest. UO came along prior (along with a bunch of other MUDS, graphical or not) But in terms of mass market, 3-d, first person MMO's -- if EQ wasn't first, I'd be curious as to what came first.
This points out the problem with these sorts of things (be it one of those clickbait lists that i keep clicking through, despite knowing better; or a hall of fame). In just about every case it turns into a popularity contest, or a massive case of personal bias.
Well the manufacturing part is pretty simple and cheap (usually). Maintenance can be an absolute fuckmare depending on child support regulations in your jurisdiction however.
But on an aside what's the going market rate on off-brand 2 year olds (made in china or india, as those are traditionally far cheaper than western versions)?
One would think FOSTA/SESTA would have had dramatic effects on price, or is it still too early to tell?
See, i think you're missing the point. Fuck advertising.
Pretend it's Cold War East Germany. Would the Stasi welcome a company like Facebook operating there -- providing free internet access, and social networking?
A corrupt government should *LOVE* that arrangement. Think about it.. Essentially they'd have a surveillance system that people actively engage in; AND the company providing the surveillance pays YOU for the privilege.
Modern day gulag? check Starving citizens? check Brutal, oppressive and tyrannical dictatorship? check.
(replying with snarky whataboutism -- "oh but the US blah blah" -- changes nothing, is utterly irrelevant to discussing NK, and absolutely means your mother will contract cancer within the next year. Caution is urged!)
But once the heat ratchets down a little bit, the norks will go right back to the status quo. This changes nothing, other than a few BFF photo-ops.
Why can the police hold your property hostage, deny you standing in the court case, and never, ever return it -- despite YOU never being convicted of a crime?
If the government was to create a database of every citizen's DNA (or realistically due to network effects; some fraction of the population) people would be justifiably horrified.
If a private company starts down that road, it's the reaction of a Luddite to find that disconcerting?
The problem is that in the current US political and technological landscape. The line between what the government *WANTS* and what it can do *ITSELF* is utterly irrelevant:
"Hi Mr. 23 and me CEO? Hi yes, i'm so and so from the DOJ; I'm calling because we're going to need full access to your customer data on an ongoing basis. Unless you want to be strung up for obstructing justice. Yes of course you'll have our total discretion. Thank you."
And this is before any backdoors are built into networking equipment and the like. Don't be naive, if it exists electronically and/or is on US soil, anything a private company can build, the government with the right rubber stamped document can access.
Hear hear! Please let me opt out of your bullshit updates and mandatory reboots without having to pay for a pro license.
The second better eGPU support is added, and more of the games i'd want to play are available on linux (no, WINE does not count) I'll move my home computer off of that POS windows 10. (so realistically, never)
WoW simply would not exist had it not been for eq.
Please.
Are you seriously suggesting that some random on slashdot doesn't actually know more than a team of researchers at intel/amd?
i'm exceedingly interested in trying this out for a few months until google pulls the plug and discontinues it.
It's the howard stern phenomenon all over again. The people who disliked him the most, were also sure to tune in just to be annoyed and offended.
It would be like the donkey which dies of thirst AND hunger when placed equal distance between food and water.

did you make sure the switch on its back was not set to 'evil' ?
I'd be worried my friend.
Well, that's removing one of the middle men at least -- perhaps try proctology ?
only if their mascot is an elephant in the throes of anguish and agony.

jesus christ AC. If you're going to post insightful and correct things, please log in next time.
So the right wing generally wants to improve things for the middle classes and try to life people into the middle classes.
Citation sorely fucking needed.
It seems it's more akin to:
left: you have yours, we're going to take it from you and give to someone else.
right: i have mine, fuck you.
I'd call it "google and amazon can fuck right off".
APK APK APK.
Maybe doesn't work for Zuck, but you can summon other demons that way.
good point, they should absolutely stick to shipping barrels of diesel fuel to these northern towns.
touche AC, touche.
I'd wager he comes from a Hindu background, so instead of a Biblical reference maybe you should have gone with something like:
"I hope you are reincarnated as a spider monkey"
But our regulatory bodies do the exact opposite of this kind of clear and rational thinking.
"Sure, let's let Comcast and NBC merge. what could possible go wrong there?"
The asshole(s) who thought this was in the best interest of anyone (outside of these two companies) needs a good swift punch to the throat.

Wake me when it's unification time.

Because corruption.

tell us more, you defiantly peaked my interest.
yeah it's intriguing, but mainly dependent on the available games --pretty sparse list of AAA games, which is understandable.
Also curious about big-picture and e-gpu support.
