I don't know, but it seems that it's kind of silly to replace something tried and true that just fucking 'works'; with a menagerie of dongles, adapters, and overpriced wireless headphones that may or may not deliver comprable sound quality.
It's a step backwards any way you slice it. New does not necessarily mean 'better'. (unless you're Apple, and you're wanting yet another way to extract even more money from your customers.)
Articles like this make me thankful for living in Oregon; but also quite fearful that the silicon valley bullshit (and people) will migrate north.
$4,000 monthly for an apartment? That is approximating the definition of insanity. There is nothing special about living in SV. You want to work for a fly-by night bullshit firm that is dedicated to stalking users, or selling widgets plenty of other places in the US that can pay a decent salary, but with 1/3 of the cost of living.
Not sure either. BUT it sounds like a lot of piracy is going on. As hollywood and the RIAA have taught us -- it should put the producers out of business. So, it hopefully might be a self limiting problem?
Or to download them from any number of torrent sites -- but yeah, that's a technical hurdle a large number of their customers won't bother clearing (unfortunately)
Honestly 'a phone', in the basic, utilitarian notion is already so ridiculously cheap -- that anyone who truly needs one, or would use in the 'basic human need' sense, already has one.
This is a poorly conceived gimme in an effort to buy votes.
I didn't know having a cell phone was a basic human need that government should be getting involved with.
If you really need a mobile phone pick up a cheap ass tracfone and do the prepaid thing. Mommy government doesn't need to be buying everyone an iphone -- and taxing the rest of us to fund the little feel goods.
on the flip side.. stay with mom and dad while you get your career off the ground. save up your 20% and buy a house. If you need to move, rent it.
Case in point, kid I work with is 24 lives with his mom and dad still, but is able to save 80/90% of his net income. That seems vastly better financially in the long run than running out on your own immediately.
easy there mr. white knight, you might scuff that armor. Anyone who sees the ability to take wide angle selfies (not photos mind you, but selfies) as *THE* key feature is probably a bit on the shallow side.
Arguing with people like this is pointless. they are firmly in the "i've got mine, fuck you" mindset. Completely failing to see that the things they like about society (working infrastructure, security, etc) are very much related to how well off their neighbor is.
The end game is sort of like Haiti or parts of or Mexico City; gated, guarded estates -- surrounded by shanty towns. But hey, the poor are poor because they deserve it.
For me, I respect the true unsung heroes of this world; Slashdot AC's with their pithy comments and virtue signaling.
Here's to you AC, keep fighting the good fight!

so then why do they need to constantly release new editions?

Or google and fb have more animosity towards one another than google vs apple (something about direct competitors?)

Okay, Australia vs Antarctica
go!
it's so much cheaper to just buy a prius and go vegan.
That's the long and short of it.
well it did seem to work fairly well in the german example.. VW is the world's largest auto maker after all.

Virtue signaling? reddit's that-o-way bub,
Foolish man; do you think someone who cared about privacy even an iota would be a facebook employee?
The way you described the crown vic comes across as saying "this is a great police car. they were very sensible in continuing to use it"
Why would they switch from something that does exactly what they want, and is cheap/easy to maintain??
not to mention the unwanted attention a corpse will bring.
yeah, 5 speed manual (triton v8)
it's not the most aesthetically pleasing vehicle, but it's a great work truck.
thanks for the tip on the brake line, heh Coincidentally my '14 fusion had a brake line fail just this past summer.
and my 1998 f150 has 330k miles -- whose anecdote wins here?
your sig is quite apropos here.
No thank you MS/Apple/Google -- i'd prefer to limit how much watching and tracking i'm subjected to. (wishful thinking, amirite?)
polygoose. c'mon.
we'd spend 3x that much on a feasibility study for the environmental impact study.

That's really unfortunate, the volt is pretty damn cool idea for a power-train.
