I think this is a problem that will eventually work itself out. Genetic modification is, essentially, not much more than a far more efficient form of eugenics/breeding; this has gone on since humans found out two black goats don't get a white one.
At least so far human nature has shown to prefer the natural over the synthetic when given the choice; the presence of flaws and irregularities is often seen as a sign of beauty in small amounts. There will be people who choose to genetically alter their offspring to better suit their wants, but people will grow accustomed and able to pick out the slight tells in this, just as we get an eerie feel of fakeness with people raised extremely strictly; their flawlessness is offputting.
It'll be great for solving some of the obviously awful hereditary diseases and conditions, some people will go overboard and be a great lesson for the rest of us.
With the touchdown of the last mars Rover, an ancient Martian atmosphere reconstructing process has accidentally been triggered, as the planet thinks it's ancient inhabitors have returned.
The problem isn't that Macho Killing Machines are perceived as negative by boys; the problem is exactly that they aren't.
For some reason, media that keeps perpetuating the same male archetype, the murderous brute, isn't seen as sexist, which I think is weird. As a boy, of course I liked the idea of being strong enough to defend myself, but I never identified with the brutes I had to defend myself from; all of whom more closely resembled my given TV-heroes than I did in terms of strength, tenacity and ability to lead.
I agree that fighting this point would be feminist, I do not agree that this portrayal is not sexist.
Into the pits with this one. One after another they all start having meltdowns. Do you think maybe we're overdoing it? We don't care about the Ebola epidemic but shunned a guy for having an ugly T-shirt, how could that be?
I should've read TFA for clarity, somehow made this about nanotechnology in my head.
Main concept of my point still stands though; hardly anybody stepped in when Ebola remained in Africa.
Weev is an asshole, no question and it'd be nice if he were reprimanded for his crimes.
Somehow though, I have to be another one of those assholes and say that trolling is a big issue, but not solely a women's issue. If you want an example of trolling that reached an entirely new level and has most definitely contributed to the failing mental health of an autistic man, look up the story of Christian Weston Chandler.
Trolling isn't new, it's always been mind-boggilingly terrible, but we couldn't be arsed to do anything but laugh back when the victims were usually mentally ill and male.
I think the point is that people shouldn't be drinking coke like it's water; so in effect coke itself doesn't cause obesity, the overconsumption does. Cola is a great beverage if you've neglected to eat or drink for three quarters of a day and your legs won't stop shaking when you stand up. Drinking a single can of coke'll get your strength back up for long enough to get yourself something actually nutritious to eat or drink.
I'm a man so I'm technically not the target demographic, but I'd love to have something to this for some of the parties, events of festivals I sometimes find myself at. Now I'm not that worried about being sexually assaulted or raped; both my sex and my ghastly physical appearance make chances of that happening to me extremely close to zero. but I've heard some anecdotes that GHB and the likes are also frequently used by muggers; instead of risking a physical altercation or a gunshot to the face, you can also just drug the dude, take his stuff and toss him off the nearest bridge all without him putting up a fight.
Concerning the need for this product; it's not so much the times we live in that created this product; being incapacitated and taken advantage of has always been an active threat to women in social situations; so I'm mostly just happy there is an addition to the safety precautions a woman can take to gain a little more security in their day-to-day lives.
If I'm correct, methane is lighter than carbon dioxide. Isn't it possible that methane that was produced long ago has settled on top of the CO2 layer, and can't really be detected from ground level?
I'm actually seriously asking, I have no clue.
Sorry, I should have been more clear.
It's not a very low IQ in general, it's very average; but on this site I believe it's easily in the bottom 20%. Most people I know tell me they have an IQ averaging around 130-140 so I've always considered myself the dummy of the group.
A list compiled by mostly if not exclusively white persons who scored well in IQ tests determine that scoring well in IQ tests and being white means you are the best kind of person and the rest is less so.
As a non-white person with a very low IQ (116); I'll admit that I am entirely useless to society with no redeeming factors; but I still have to note that list has a high "our club is the best club" factor throughout.
I can't speak with a lot of authority, but my girlfriend currently does a study in animal and wildlife management.
According to her, the idea that monogamy is 100% benificial to the female of a species is wrong. Where both males and females have a distinct advantage by staying together to ensure the survival of their offspring; females also have an advantage by diversifying the genetic code of their offspring. Having multiple children with multiple fathers ensures that their 50% of the child's genetic code (which, coincidentally, is always the same 50% whereas males donate one of two types of genetic information) is paired with different codes who have different survival rates depending on conditions.
But to be honest, I can't offer too much insight on what this would mean for humanity; other than the desire for others seems innate in both genders.
I don't have any papers at the ready to prove my diagnosis at 6, but I am a person with Asperger's, I can't justify calling myself a nerd because I'm not that intelligent but I assume an autistic spectrum disorder is more indicative of social skills than possible nerddom.
That said, while my social skills aren't innate, they're present because I learned; it might be presumptuous to assume anyone else can, so my apologies if I'm wrong, but I feel that even if you're initially lacking in social perceptions, there are ways to work around it.
Most people I know who have an autistic spectrum disorders, while somewhat bad at social dynamics, are extremely perceptive to detail. As am I, so I used that skill and was lucky enough to re-appropriate it by simply carefully looking for signs of emotion that I've learned about both in books and in practice. It took a lot of effort and a lot of failure early in life, but at this point I feel I can compensate.
Again, it might be wrong for me to assume others can do something simply because I can/could, but I don't feel special, so I figure it's an option.
I did all of the above. Not murderously violent, but violent enough that I acted out in inappropriate ways.
It is safest for such men to consider *any* sexual contact outside of marriage to be rape- because it's certain that unless you have put a ring on that finger, any consent you think you have received will be revoked retroactively, and you'll be charged with rape anyway.
Don't be safe, be smart. Most usual people can get a modicum of a hint to whether or not there is consent, implied or spoken. The rape debate is important in getting some cultural flaws out of the way, but the dynamics presented in the debates are usually embellished, simplified and enhanced to further understanding of the topic at hand. Actual life and usual social interactions are usually not as dramatic.
It'd be wrong to assume that marriage implies consent; but also wrong to assume that explicit verbal consent is absolutely necessary in a trusting relationship (however long lasting or fleeting) between two people lest it unequivocally be rape.
I am no sort of scientist, so whatever I say can be entirely misinformed.
Personally I think interstellar travel an its' related subjects are still far too much in the dark to be discussed with any form of authority.
Another explanation for the lack of visitors could be that interstellar travel would require such an advanced mastery of the elemental forces and laws of nature that by the time this is achieved; the value of life in the universe is comparatively low next to the other natural occurrences we are as now completely ignorant about.
But then again, I am rather dumb, this might be completely dumb also.
I don't disagree with you. As I said, I've failed to come up with a safe solution; it's just that I see some problems with implementing old laws and practices in this case. However, for lack of a perfect solution; I agree it would be more exciting to see if we went with the least-bad solution.
I think this is a problem that will eventually work itself out. Genetic modification is, essentially, not much more than a far more efficient form of eugenics/breeding; this has gone on since humans found out two black goats don't get a white one.

I'm sorry, this is Slashdot, not Stormfront. I know both start with an S, I understand the confusion.
I know you're right, not everything is about money. But the Dutchman inside me is rioting, he set my liver on fire already.

I love how within the first three comments on Slashdot all hope and wonder contained in TFA is thouroughly shot down. Never change /.

This message is brought to you by the 24hr news cycle.
That is a great formula. If I were fancy enough to casually wear hats, I'd tip it to you.

People who watch porn and Liars.
We can safely conclude that liars have slightly more active brains.
As I said, I'm very stupid so I guess that must've been my problem in this case as well.
My apologies for engaging you in this discussion, it can't have been much more than a huge waste of your time.
