Sales tax is based on where the buyer is located/item is shipped to. Each of the 9000+ individual sales taxing districts in the US are salivating over the money that they think will come pouring in to their coffers. Remember, this is not just state sales taxes, there is county/parish, city and 1000s of special sales taxing districts in the US.
There are over 9000+ individual taxing districts in the US. Each has their own crazy rules on what is taxed and what is not. Example in MN a pair of gloves is taxed if they are used to keep the buyers hands clean. But not taxed if the are safety equipment, used to hand glass with sharp edges for instance..
This is going to change the face of online sales. The small operations may shutdown. And the, Amazons are loving it.
The truth is, the days of getting a good job and sitting back, waiting for retirement are gone. Everyone must take personal responsibility for their own education, continuous professional/trades planning and training. Those that do not or are not able, will suffer for it. I know it is sad, but that is the truth everyone working in our current and our future economy face.
I have a client that is a harvesting company they are starting now in the south and will work their way to the Dakotas. Partly Self driving Harvesters are already being tested in the fields. But they still have an operator in the cab. Since I am not with the crews I am not sure of the extent.
that to get an app in to the Apple Store the source/install had to be submitted to Apple for review. So either I am mistaken or Apple is not doing a good job of review. TBH I don't know, I develop In-House apps for clients. And have not tried to use the App Store as a distribution point.
I decided a little under 2 years ago to move into the iOS development world. Had a project I could sell;) I did not have any Apple devices or computers and had not used an Apple product since an Apple II.
So I picked up a Mac Mini and installed XCode and I was off. While I was more comfortable with Obj-C. I made the choice early to go with Swift. I think it was Swift 2-2.5 or something.
The hardest part was moving to the Apple/Swift way. And the Apple Developer/VPP/DEP/Apple Enterprise Developer/MDM Management world. It is in my mind a bit complex;) to deploy. But it does work pretty well considering I am managing and supporting devices scattered through out the US remotely. The biggest issue during the process was Apples repeated updates broke everything from the code, to signing, to deployment again and again and again. But with the latest XCode and Swift 4 seems to be better and stable. Anyway, What I delivered/got paid for by my client was a Swift 4 app with some Obj-C in specific places;)
I think Apple will move to Swift for all development eventually. But as with all things Apple they could turn on a dime in future and head off on an entirely new direction abandoning everything and everyone Swift;)
New York Times is a fine source. But one should always know where their news is coming from. Just part of being a wise consumer of news in today's world. It is also wise to look into who the actual sources are.
Also for me, I tend to view all anonymous sources as the the writers personal views presented as journalism.
I read the complete article. It presented a valid point of view. With only 1 anonymous source, most others were attributed.
The individual is wrong, but I am sure they see themselves as one of the smartest in any room. In time that may change, maybe not.
Age discrimination is what it is, and it is rampant in the tech industry. The wise ones doing it, keep things under wraps because it is easy to do as long as nothing is done/said in the open. But the wise understand, Today most everyone who is an employee in the tech industry will sooner than later be the one moving on, voluntarily or not.
Years ago, I chose to leave a large corporation in my 30s in order to make my own way. I have been self employed for over 30 years. The last 20 years solely as a contract programmer.
I am 62 and taught my self Swift (because I saw a sale) and have my first In-House iPad app in the field for a client. And am sitting here in my office using an MDM to manage clients devices scattered across the US.
Moving into the Apple device world from remote Linux Server based development work was, well interesting. The Apple world is, well the Apple world;)
I am currently re visiting lisp on the side, been a long time but with the AI buzz, it looks like there will be some fun things going on;)
Anyway, I am drifting. This individual and managers like them are the norm in the tech industry. Every time I run into them I smile to myself. Because I know I am most likely more capable/wiser than they are;) There is no need to say or do anything except deliver the application/fix their problems etc and move on the the next adventure.
of politicians and government. Once they pass them they for the most part don't care about whether they work, are effective, harmful, who gets hurt or are properly implemented by the government bureaucrats. They got their bullet point/talking point for campaign ads/tools to attack their political opponents and they just move on, problem solved.
I also want to say again, about gun violence, what is it about our culture and society that creates individuals who think gun violence is a good way to get their fame on social media/solve their problems. Maybe the real issue is not directly the gun (a tool) but the person and their state of mind along with our culture and society! Lets be open minded and at least ask the question.
Interesting, as I recall John Kerry big tax everything democrat and past presidential candidate who lived in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (Taxachusetts) keeps his new yacht in a different state to avoid the taxes. John Kerry Saves $500,000
it is interesting that members of congress if they are not already millionaires. Become millionaires in 2-3 years working in a job that pays 174,000 per year.
when the government taxes something because they will use the money to fix things. The reality is most of the money will be diverted right in to the politicians, bureaucrats and rich elites pockets. The corrupt politicians, bureaucrats and elites are incompetent at fixing most problems they create, but they are great thieves, what a joke on the people.
I would like to see a "reasonable and practical concept of fair use" implemented. But unfortunately I think here in the US the politicians are being paid to make our copyright laws even worst.
Mickey Mouse has loads of dough to protect himself, and plenty of corrupt politicians of both parties to buy.;)
One more thing, the corporate owners are even buying laws that pass the cost of policing their copyrights on to 3rd parties. Sweet deal to off load your cost to maintain on to other entities.;) That way they can spend less on their copyright protection expenses.
a permanent monopoly. Which is just what the corporations that are ending up with these copyrights need. In order to make them a good buy and profit producer for the corporation owners. They want them to be an asset that will never be used up. Never require additional costs related to development and design. In essence they have an almost nonexistent cost to maintain. So most every bit of income generated is, for the most part profit.
That is why these corporations are willing to buy the right copyright laws from the politicians. It is a one time cost now for huge profit with little effort later.
I do not think it can be stopped because politicians are corrupt and will always take the money.
8 of 10 small businesses don't make it 18 months. A person deciding to try gig work is in essence a one person small business.
As an individual who has been a self employed contract programmer for 30+ years. Getting over the hump is tough. Especially, sense most everything you think, turns out to be wrong or at the least needs a lot of adjustments;) Also, it means long hours and requires one to be very versatile. And in addition the market and economic reality is always changing. Which requires one to always be asking what is next and re educating ones self for what will come in 6 months.
what Governments and Corporations say. AI, drones and robotics will be used on the battlefield (actual wars, civilian attacks and guerilla actions) and in terrorism! It is a fact! Why, because there are entities and individuals who will do it for various reasons, which to many to even think about or list. And which will never be controlled.

In reality, I got the Reagan quote wrong. Should have googled it first.

What a bunch of Hypocrites, Right!, Any government! will take care of things. Didn't we just read about "Unresolved Login Issue Prevented Florida 'Concealed Weapon' Background Checks For Over a Year" does that not prove the government is usually not part of the solution to problems?

I know that was the only time government failed, NOT!
