    took the question in a way those that asked it did not account for?
    "as a feeling of phoniness in people who believe they are not intelligent, capable or creative despite evidence of high achievement."
    and this
    "despite degrees, scholastic honors, high scores on standardized tests and professional recognition from colleagues and respected authorities"

    Maybe they feel that they have "high achievement" in in spite of what others think?

    Just a thought that popped in to my mind. And maybe I am not presenting it right since I am not clear what I am ruminating about.

    Yea since my eyes are bad and I just renewed my lic for what could be the last time since my left eye is shot and my right eye barely made the grade. The eye doctor said with new corrective lenses he signed the form based on my right eye ;)
    I am 62, self employed (30+ years) and wondering what the market is for a mostly blind contract programmer lol. Just taught myself Swift and sold & delivered my first in house iOS app for a client. 2018 looks to be my best year ever ;) provided my job book holds up for the last 17 weeks.

    WOW seems really bad and invasive. Since the Uber CEO just said during a business show interview that Uber is about ending car ownership.
    So you ban riders from using a service. While at the same time saying car ownership needs to be ended.
    Uber is preparing for an IPO, the CEO is talking about new cultural norms, etc etc. Investors will be lining up for us.

    This guy gives me the creeps.

  5. I go in to task manager and what do I see 10 chrome tasks running ok I am sure I can maybe hunt down a configuration setting telling chrome how many tasks they can start but why should I need to.
    Have not looked in to it but maybe they are preparing to open all links in a page in background browsers so they can appear fast?
    Did I ask for that do I care?

  6. password manager? does giving a market data vacuum cleaner company your sites and log in credentials provide any real value to you. Reminds me of Facebook asking banks for access to their users banking information and accounts to make things easier for Facebook users!! Right!!

  7. to give google keywords I think are important so they can sell the information to others so they can bug me when I do not want to be hassled. No wonder I did not know what the original omnibox was.

    wish I had mod points I would mark you up. Since I know the IP addresses of my and most of my clients servers I can relate. But ipv6 addresses are a bit long to easily recall.

    At least for an old guy like me ;) lol

    Really "The ROI analysis is a problem, because people before college cannot usually do them yet."
    When you graduate from High School and turn 18 in our world you are an adult. I see things getting mushy now but what are the schools turning out? And if there is a problem there we need to fix it.

    Charter Schools anyone ;)

    OK, granted I got a bit snarky and off base, That is on me ;) My point is, I don't think some are graduating High School with excessive exposure to the 3 R's under their belt.
    When I finished high school, I was an adult, had a draft number, moved out and was on my own making my own choices. And being responsible for the choices and decisions I made.

    I recall seeing the Hobbit on our book shelf at home when I was in grade school. My sister who was in high school had checked the book out. It took me several attempts to get through the first chapter. Then bam! I was hooked stayed up all night and finished the entire book before she had to take it back. I asked her to check out the Load of the Rings and I pushed through all 3 books in short order.

    I will have to check these other books out. Going to be fun ;)

    not sure about the cube root co-secant stuff. Been a few years since I had trig.
    But it could be more like, teaching less gender is optional and a choice, how to have sex, becoming and activist and protester, socialism is good, etc
    Does not seem like the 3 R's get taught much in school these days. But then again how would I know for sure what is being taught today in our schools.

    I agree completely with your not everyone needs to go to collage message.
    On a side note keep in mind. The cost of FREE will always collapse the system. Because those receiving services and those providing services have no skin in the game and will completely disregard those stuck with the bill (Middle Class Tax Payers).

    maybe those going to collage are not doing a proper ROI (Return on Investment) analysis before making their collage and funding choices.
    A collage degree does not guarantee financial success. The entire process needs to be approached and executed with diligence and awareness.
    Since it seems to me even public collages have no problem helping students run up huge debts they know won't provide the student with a marketable
    skill set to lay a firm foundation for paying back the borrowed money. The collages (public and private) are corrupt and deeply involved in this problem.

    GNUCash and LibreOffice. But I keep 1 local install Microsoft office lic and have 1 o365 premium account. Why? because my clients are not like me and they are Microsoft users. Their remote servers are all Linux but in their offices they are Microsoft based.
