on some machine that it capable of being cracked ? Once they have sought payment from the credit card company - why do they keep the CVV number ? If, for some reason, they really need to (eg: easy next order), then keep all that sensitive information on some machine with a very narrow API (eg: charge customer 1234 $20 - tell me if this is approved). Many problem could be, at least partly, mitigated if they did not store everything in one big damn SQL database!
If this 'phone is successful then many apps will be developed that people will want to install. Today many such apps demand all sorts of permissions that are then abused by the app vendor. Refuse to give the permission most apps will not work.
I want to regain control by: giving each app a different contacts database; a different call history; a different GPS location;... Running each app in its own Linux kernel container should do the job.
This only gives a person's work history?..... Again, why is this a big deal?
The point is that this results in an uneven playing field when negotiating salary. The company knows what you are earning and can make an offer close to that. You do not know what the company is prepared to pay (eg: average of those doing a similar job at the company). The potential employee is thus at a negotiating disadvantage.
Knowing the average industry salary for the job that you are seeking does not give equal negotiating power. If you are currently being paid less than the average you could find yourself in a place that is hard to get out of.
in back taxes as it had been given an unfair tax deal in Luxembourg. OK: Amazon saved some tax, but that saving allowed it to under-cut its rivals, some of who have been put out of business - will there be any compensation for those competitors, the cost of which could dwarf the back-tax bill ? I suspect that the answer is no in which case Amazon's dodgy dealings have been highly profitable and will continue to be so in the future -- as it has fewer competitors.
some people use them to sharpen blades before murdering people!
Just because some people use something for a purpose that you do not like, does not give you a valid reason to stop them being made. However: big media is rich and can afford expensive lawyers who speak with forked tongues.
4 different bases (AKA letters) in groups of 3 (AKA words, called codons); this gives 64 combinations, however with some of these only the first 2 bases are significant - some amino acids are encoded regardless of what the 3rd base is.
The wording was about ''cyber-attack'' which sets the tone ''Oh, unfortunate Deloitte'' - where as it should have been something like ''Deloitte is the latest incompetent company to spew client information over the Internet''.
It is about time that these crappy companies were called out for what they are. Oh: put the CEO's head on the block for this: make him pay for what this costs customers out of his own pocket - if it is paid for by Deloitte (or their insurers) then nothing will ever change.
By persuading people to run free software under MS Windows, Microsoft gets the ability to subject it to its spyware (sorry, I meant to say: telemetry) and upload the results of key-logging & other snooping that it could not do on a native Linux system.
Has anyone actually verified what MS claims is uploaded ? Do we know who MS shares this information with ?
In fact, with many websites I would love to have the option of allowing cryptocurrency mining to pay for it. It would be great if an efficient miner was built into the browser that could be utilized via some standard and has solid permission protection.
Shhhh! Don't let Apple or Microsoft hear you. They already think that they own your PC/phone and can monetise it as they see fit. They could make a lot of money from crypto-currency mining on millions of machine world wide.
Why is bashware not a problem on a Linux system ? After all: if all that Windows Subsystem for Linux does is to provide Linux functionality then you would expect the same malware to also have been a problem on native Linux systems.
Gnome terminal insists on setting TERM=xterm but does not generate the same sequences, eg it generates the wrong escape sequence for Shift-F1. There is a good description with TERM=gnome, but they refuse to use it. Why don't they just fix it to generate the right escape sequences ? Backwards compatibility ? - That can't be the reason: if the terminfo description is wrong then no one can be using it.
I have tried Gnome 3 several times, just too hard to use, the pager is broken (up/down only), no maximise button, hard to open a *new* terminal in a *new* window,... I now run Mate, I find it intuitive and it works as I want.
Brushes4Less looses out big time, so who wins ? Did some other toothbrush manufacturer sell more stuff as a result ? Following the money might be a good way of finding who ultimately was responsible — assuming that it was not just some random act of vandalism.
Amazon is best placed to see where sales went, it will be interesting to see if they can be bothered.
In this case Google is acting just as every large corporate will: they want to avoid being attacked by vocal groups as they think that that will, eventually, lead to a reduction in profits. So when some group succeeds in getting enough people to accept their meme, the corporate will want to be seen as supporting it - no matter how wacky it is & no matter what those at the top really think about it.
Some of the more savvy & well organised groups get their supporters into positions of influence, in government, corporations, universities, the media,... and then use that to push their agenda. Today we live in a world where your views are being increasingly manipulated - often to conclusions that are not supported by the evidence.
I wonder if the EU will do the right thing and extend its right to be forgotten proposals to allow you to demand that facebook, et al, remove all of that information about you? The other thing that might be fun is doing a subject access request and have facebook tell you everything that they know about you.

I can take your insult, but why do you think so ?

People outside the USA were affected, eg: Equifax says 400,000 U.K. customers were affected by hack
I'm sorry Dave, I cannot do that; the pizza was not ordered from Amazon.

to a child under 13 ? The chances of it being lost or stolen are quite high!
but made to stay there and face the music. As it is he will just run and become CEO of some other outfit that he will also fail to manage properly.

Corporations give large campaign donations, individuals do not. Who do you think politicians will listen to ?

Choose your parents well.
Oh, I forgot: very few people even look at what the app is asking for, just as they click 'accept' to the T&Cs without having read them.
The only way to do that is to cut emissions ... and even then there is a large time lag ... it will take years to reverse what we have done.

MY FRIEND SIR TERRY CAN NOW WORK IN PEACE AT MY HOUSE and complete his books. You may read them when you join us.
This was first written entirely in caps ... but a soulless slashdot filter complained that that was shouting :-(
