become 1st class languages on OS X. Apple is adding the ability to write cocoa apps in Ruby and Python. Sure, you could do it in the past, but Apple wasn't very supportive to the PyObjC and the RubyCocoa projects. But from what I saw on the demo's, Apple has been working hard to make Ruby and Python a legitimate choice for cocoa development. So now you'll have 3 choices: Objective C, Ruby, and Python. By the way cocoa development with Java is canned.
That wouldn't be punishment. Punishment for someone like him would be strapping him to a chair, taping his eyelids open, like in A Clockwork Orange, and making him watch ESPN 24/7.
I figure this is about negotiations instead. Who the hell wants the Beatles on iTunes anyway? If you are a Beatles fan, you probably already own their CD's. I'd recommend CD purchases over iTunes 10 out of 10 times anyway. And I'm a multiple Mac and iPod owner. The only music I download from iTunes are their free releases every week. Otherwise, I want DRM-free music in CD quality.
I bought my first iBook in April 2002. It was an open box closeout special at Circuit City since they were dissolving their relationship with Apple. Loved it so much, I sold it in 6 months and replaced it with a newer iBook. This one went almost 1 year before the infamous video problem surfaced. Sent it in for repairs to CompUSA who kept it for almost a month. Issue resolved. Less than one year later, same problem. Sent it back to Apple directly and got it back in 3 days. Issue resolved. Then about one year ago, same thing happened again. Sent it in to Apple and got it back in 2 days. Except this time, they swapped out my upgraded 40GB 5400rpm drive for a 20GB 4200rpm drive. Took about a month to get the drive replaced. And when it came back it was a 40GB 4200rpm drive. I just gave up. Wasn't worth the hassle anymore. My wife uses it now and its still kicking.
My PowerMac 2.0ghz Dual G5 has worked flawlessly for 2 years. I bought a Mac mini 1.2ghz G4 about a year and a half ago. Played with it for two weeks and sold it to my neighbor. Been working ever since for her. And my new 17" MacBook Pro is amazing. Gets hot, but quiet. No whine out of it. I would prefer the 15" but with the problems they were having I didn't want to take a chance. Now if only the 15" would support 1680x1050, I'd probably sell my 17" and get one of the new ones.
the more I mess with it, the more I realize I like Django better. Django just seems much more mature and has more features included automatically, like administration. Maybe its me, but my mind seems to understand Python more than Ruby.
You've sort of hit the nail on the head. Media PC's are basically useless until people HAVE HD television. And HDTV is still in the minority by far. I want a Mac mini for my den with a wireless keyboard and mouse, but withouth a HDTV, what's the point? And until we can get them for under $1000, they will remain in the minority for some time to come.
I was a professional Linux admin for 3 1/2 years. I ran Debian. Sure, we had one copy of Red Hat Enterprise because we purchased a library system that insisted on using Red Hat. But I preferred Debian. And if Ubuntu has paid support, it has a great future.
What kind of hand holding are you referring to? As a Debian user, I could say that Red Hat has a lot more hand holding than Debian does. Get off your Red Hat high horse.
Why is it too bad that Apple has switched to Intel? His PowerPC G5 still works perfectly fine. And I guarantee you that Leopard will run on it as well. I've got a PowerMac Dual G5. I bought it in 2003. Still works great. I do my video editing, music storage, and photo storage on it. I've got a MacBook Pro 17" as well. Its Intel based. I have almost the same apps on each machine. The only app on my MacBook Pro that runs in Rosetta is Microsoft Office. Everything else is Universal Binary.
I was a Linux Administrator for 3 years. I used Linux on my desktop. Now I'm a developer where I have to use Windows on the desktop. It sucks. I prefer Linux much more. But neither one of them compare to OS X on the desktop.
Actually, from what I read, is the Movie studios wanted variable pricing on movies, but Steve Jobs wanted a fixed price of $9.99 a movie. This time, I would have to side with the movie studios. Why would I want to purchase a movie from the 80's for $10? But I'm interested in the rentals. I'm sure the quality will still be ipod quality. And if the price is reasonable, $1.99 or $2.99 at most, then I might be persuaded to rent a few movies. But if the price is $4.99 then forget it. I'll stick with my local video store.
Whats worse, a boss who is a buzzword whore, or a boss who only knows what IBM tells him to know and if you bring up anything else (ie. RoR, Subversion, etc.), it must be junk. We're so much in the pocket of IBM, that we don't run Apache, we run IBM's HTTP Server, which IS Apache but of course, our version is equivalent to a 4 year old version of Apache. But we use IBM's version because we like to pay out of our asses for support.
Its only illegal to gamble if the gov't isn't getting a cut (ie. lotteries) or it isn't sponsored by religious organizations (ie. bingo). Otherwise it is immoral and just plain un-American and probably supports terrorist activities.
None of my audio CD's have ever gone bad outside of being scratched. I started buying music CD's in 1986 when my parents bought me a CD player for my stereo. I asked for a radar detector and got a CD player. Smart move on my parents. I still have that CD player in my attic. I wonder if it works now.

And then give all the money back to the shareholders.

Dude, read the specs. Its 320x240. The screen is 3" as opposed to the iPod's 2.5".
You mean the teachers sweat like crazy, jump up and down, and scream "Give it up for me!"?

You left out C.
Most users have no idea there is an alternative.

Its unbelievable. This industry is doing whatever it can to get people to stop purchasing their product. I just don't understand it.

Or you could just spend $50 per month for a brand new Mac.
We are not descendants of primates. We arrived from the mothership.
Oops you're right. I don't think I'll sleep any better knowing that though.

And right behind Cheney is, gasp, Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska. I feel better already.

Yes, but once its released, then the buggy code from the beta miraculously fixes itself because Microsoft would never let buggy code get shipped.

If the movie was actually good enough to make me consider this, then I think I wouldn't have any trouble spending the $25 to purchase the disc.
One of the funniest tv episodes. EVER. I laughed my ass off and I was only around 13 at the time.
Stop paying the monthly fee and see how well you can play your music.
