Why are you complaining about the pricing? 99 cents is cheap. I bought singles when they were the dominant media in the late 70's. They were 99 cents and up back then. So the songs are actually cheaper now. The pricing is my least concern with online music.
At my current job, we lock down access in and out of our firewall. The only way in is through VPN. No SSH, even outgoing, but not really necessary since 99.9% of our hardware runs either Netware or Windows. But after all this security, we don't do a thing on the PC's except run Anti-virus and Anti-spyware. Yet we standardize on IE and run no encryption whatsoever. I was told I couldn't even bring my MacBook Pro into work for fear of putting a virus on our network. But yet, as I said, we don't make Firefox a required browser. In fact, I may be the only person in my I.T. department who actually uses it. Pretty sad.
I took the risk 3 years ago, and its the greatest thing I've ever done. I won the surgery in a contest on a radio station. They basically did the sales thing on me trying to upgrade me from regular Lasik surgery to Intra-Lasik which was 100% laser. I told them I had no interest in a blade coming anywhere near my eye and was willing to walk, so they "upgraded" me to the intra-lasik at no additional cost. Had about 1 month of slightly blurred vision but since then no problems. And I was blind before that. My contact lens prescription was something like -5.50. If your insurance will pay for it, I highly recommend it.
ha ha. Right dude. If you think the hitting in rugby is even close to that of American football, you are clueless. Because of the gear they wear, the hitting is way more violent than in rugby. Rugby, for the most part, is arm tackling with a few body shots thrown in. American football is extremely violent.
What are you talking about? You say no one can put to gether a bunch of parts and get a functioning Mac? Huh? What is a functioning Mac? A Mac is a PC. What makes it function is the OS. So, you are correct that you can't put a bunch of parts together and get a functioning OS X system. But thats the software that prevents it. You CAN run Linux on a Mac. You CAN run Windows on a Mac. So theoretically, you CAN put a bunch of parts together and get something equivalent to Mac hardware.
You are confusing hardware with software. What exactly is an open standard for hardware anyway?
If it was truly free, then the owners of the network wouldn't be the ISP's of the network. Thats the problem. Back in the 90's there was competition among ISP's. Then the telco's decided that they should be the ISP's. Now there's no competition. I'm against gov't getting involved in private industry except when private industry becomes too private.
I don't think thats entirely true. I've seen sports broadcast in HD yet they weren't widescreen. I was actually quite surprised that they weren't in widescreen format. But they were HD. I definitely noticed a sharper picture.
I didn't realize that it wakes up on SSH connections. I thought I tried this a while back but it didn't work. Maybe that was back on Jaguar. I'll have to look at this again. Would love to let my PowerMac sleep as much as possible while still having the capability of ssh'ing into it from my MBP.
Bingo! (No pun intended). Washington has other forms of legalized gambling. The state gets a cut. Thats why they are outlawing online gambling because the state can't make any money off of it since its mostly located out of the U.S.
I'm no expert, but to me, cross-platform development is taking a lowest common denominator approach. For instance, Adobe's Photoshop may have originated on the Mac, but the current versions of it are designed primarily for Windows, not OS X. This is why you don't see Photoshop taking advantage of the technology in OS X like Core Image. Cross-platform has its advantages but for some apps, they are better off being written for a specific environment.
The CEO of Shell Oil was on the Today Show this morning, and he even admits that global warming is real and its here. Frankly, I was a bit surprised. I figured that he would have the same opinion as President Bush which is more studies need to be done. He said the discussion should be over. Scientific evidence is overwhelming. And we need to do something about it.
You are right. Ticketmaster SHOULD be able to get whatever they can for the tickets they sell. At the same time, I SHOULD be able to resell my ticket for whatever price I can as well. Scalping laws violate my rights. But once again, its the entertainment industry that gets these ridiculous laws passed.
But I think Ticketmaster is already gouging the public. I don't go to big name concerts anymore because a $25 ticket winds up costing almost $40 once all the "fees" are added on. And thats just for a ticket to some kids show like Dora or The Wiggles. I can't believe the people that actually will spend that kind of money to take their 3 year olds. Maybe its just me. Maybe I'm stuck in some kind of time warp. Or maybe a $50K job just doesn't cut it anymore.
You also have to remember that the Mac mini has integrated graphics which uses some of the memory. I've heard it uses about 80MB of your memory. But I agree, it needs at least 1GB to run smoothly.
Thank you for your concern regarding OS X and viruses. Because of this information you have put forth, I will pay more attention to the coming virus threat to OS X. If, and when that should happen, I will be sure to follow your advice and get some anti-virus software. Unfortunately for you, it won't be your product. I'll download ClamavX instead.
But proponents of Apple's DRM will argue that the music CAN be played on other players. You just have to convert it. Its a pain, but Apple does give you that option.
The real problem is that the RIAA, in all their infinite wisdom, is screwing themselves. They demanded DRM, and now its biting them in the ass. Without DRM, Apple wouldn't have the leverage to dictate the pricing on songs.
You've got your own record label. Make your music available on your website for purchase in a lossless format that is not encumbered with DRM. Or go to Apple get them to put your music on iTunes but stipulate you do not want DRM. Make Apple change. The RIAA seems too stupid to give up DRM and Apple's going along with it since its basically vendor lock-in.
This will be so funny when Google actually starts this network up. Then AT&T and the other Bells will be crying about how Google won't share with them. While they are showing their greed and trying to extort money from the likes of Google, Google is working to eliminate the need for carriers altogether. Gotta love it.
I guess its the natural cycle of corporations that get too big and eventually they have to die.

If the songs are already on your iPod, you can get them back at any time. If you run a Mac, check out Senuti at http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/ 23390/.
I can't build a Dell either. So whats your point?

Maybe to him, one system crash in 3 weeks is "running flawlessly".

My MacBook Pro came from Shanghai. Is it because Lenovo is a Chinese company? Well, ship them without an OS. That'll solve it.

Thank you for your concern,
A very "frightened" OS X user.
He's the most tech savvy and consumer friendly representative in Congress today.
Need to find an alternative for my photos.

So basically you are saying that motorcycles are safe as long as you don't ride on roads with cars and trucks. Brilliant!
I'd have one except for the fact there are soccer moms driving Excursions and talking on cell phones. Eliminate those factors and I'll get my bike.

No, they just read Slashdot.
