Anyone else kinda find it fatefull and kinda creepy that Wednesday they are predicting a 'Red Moon" during the lunar eclipse, which by the way, will happen during game 4 tomorrow night where Boston can sweep St. Louis. Looks like the gods want Boston to finally win and they are showing it!

My last experience with Apple was so good I feel like im obligated to share it with everyone.

I bought a 15" G4 Aluminum PowerBook 1Ghz in March from the Apple store. About a month after i bought it I started to notice the infamous "White Spots" on the screen. I lived with them for about a month because I didn't want to go without my powerbook while it was in for repairs.

Finally they got fairly noticeable, and I was going to have a slow week of programming so I decided to go ahead and send it in.

I called Apple about 11am CST on a thursday with my problem. I explained to TS what the problem. They were very very nice went ahead and setup a repair trip for my lil powerbook. They said DHL would drop of a shipping box and label within 24 hours. The box was here 3pm the SAME DAY! I couldn't believe it. That night I removed my non factory Airport Extreme card and packed the machine up. Friday morning I dropped it off at the local DHL office for shipping.

Friday afternoon I received a confirmation email from Apple saying it had been shipped.
Saturday Morning, I got an email saying they had received it in California.
Saturday Afternoon, another email saying the repairs were complete.
Saturday Afternoon, another update saying the computer had shipped.
Monday morning the Laptop was at my door!

I was absolutely amazed! Friday to Monday turn around time over the weekend. It was incredible.

There is a reason that Apple hardware is a little more expensive, And to a person who makes a living on my laptop its worth every dollar.

I have to say. This is a total load of crap. This argument floats around all the time and its crap. Troubleshooting a new computer laden car is no different that toubleshooting a 68 VW. Any good mechanic will tell you, troubleshooting a problem is troubleshooting a problem. dosent matter if you work on the space shuttle or a toaster. Finding problems and solving them still follows the same basic rules.

As far as pricing. Yes, new stuff is expensive. But I think being in the computer industry, most people around here know that. Remember 1x CD-Rom drives. or floppy disks. They were expensive too. HID Xenon lights are expensive now. But they used to be $10,000 a bulb when they were introduced. Time and acceptance will drop the price.

Aluminum body work: there are currently 3 (well 2) cars for sale in the US that have an aluminum body. Acura NSX, Audi A8 and the now dead Prowler. The price on insurance for these cars reflects their different material. Aluminum body shop equipment is expensive because no one has it. And for good reason. There arent many cars that need it. That will change if more cars are built with aluminum skins. (probably not likley)

People used this same argument when cars first started having computers in the early 80's. Any mechanic who cant fix a modern car with todays modern tools probably shouldnt be working on a car anyway. Im sure people bitched when cars started buring gasoline too....

My girlfriend works for an OB/Gyn doctor and i have personally talked to the doctors about this type of subject before. I am totaly and completely on the side of the doctors on this one.

99% of these lawsuits that people file against doctors that supposedly caused 'brain damage' to children when they were born are completly bogus. The fact that you child was born with down syndrome has just about as much to do with the doctor that delivered him\her as the sex of that child does.

The total crap part is that you can sue ANYTIME after birth and claim that the doctor that delivered you caused any problems that you have now. I personally talked to a doctor that is being sued by some parents because their child didnt get into the college they were planning on, so they sued the doctor for causing long lasting brain damage 18 years after the birth. The really sad part is the doctor lost the lawsuit and is now repsonsible for paying millions of dollars of damages to the family. And let me say, this is a totaly normal kid who simply didnt get high enough grades on his entrance exams to a college, not some highly deformed retarded human being.

Its really sad when doctors are sued so often and so frequently that they have been driven to do this type of blacklisting.

Insurance costs and lawsuits have gotten totaly out of hand in this country. it has driven medical costs through the roof and something has to give.

If youll remember, a couple years ago somewhere on the east coast, a extremly large group of doctors in virginia I believe went on strike because of sky high malpratice insurance costs. things get much worse and you will see many more strikes like that.

About 4 years ago I did MIS work at a large company in Dallas. I made really good money for work. It was easy enough, troubleshooting windows networks, wireless connections, that kinda thing. After a while it was killing me to wear a tie get up at 6am to drive to the far side of the city every morning.

I left that job at the start of summer and went and worked at the local general avation airport doing airplane mantainence. Mostly 100 hour inspections, replacing bad magnetos, that sort of thing, and it was a blast. Pretty good pay too, not as good as MIS work but still enough to live on. The work was much more challenging and it was nice to be able to work outside for a change. Plus the environment was so much more laid back.

At the end of the summer I left and started doing freelance web design and programming. It was nice to get away from the tech world for a summer, its a big time stress relief. That summer job was the most fun I ever had outside.

It does use fossil fuels but most people are just too "small picture" to realize it. Where do you think that Ethanol came from? It wasnt magically dropped on earth by some incredibly kind tree hugging aliens. It was most likley produced from corn. And that corn was grown in a large field and maintained by a farmer who uses thousands of gallons of deisel fuel to run the tractor to maintain that corn. Plow, Plant, Water, spray for insects, harvest, husk, remove from cobb, lll those are done by big diesel machines.

So when it all boils down. The nice clean ethanol that was used to make the hydrogen that made the electricity was grown and processed with power from good ole' black dino juice.

Everytime I hear the argument that Pro_Athletes are over paid it drives me crazy. What no one seems to realise is that pro athletes are nothing but advertsing draws for their owners. They are paid 10Million a year because the owner is hoping that that one player will contribute more than 10 million in advertising dollars. The better/bigger the players the more people go to the games. The more people at the games the more ad signs cost in the stadium, the more ticket sales, more tv viewers, more tv money, more radio money, more merchandising.

It has NOTHING to do with an athletes ability to throw a ball, it has EVERYTHING to do with how good the fans think he is, therefore how much money they will spend on the team.

Its nothing but business. You can complain all day long how fat and old XXX basketplayer is, But if he fills seats and turns on TV's, then thats all that matters.

Now, the more video I can get compressed in Cleaner 6 in a 24 hour period the more money I make. Its that simple. I dont care what SPEC benchmarks show. I need to be able to import, edit and compress video as fast as possible, and it looks to me like the G5 is going to be my new machine.

If you have ever built a web site with more than 50-60 pages you know how much of a nightmare site management can be. Dreamweaver's ability to handle large sites with ease is what makes is so great. The ability to sync with a server and check in/check out pages is vital when you have 4-5 people working on a large site at one time.

Once you get to know all of Dreamweavers little features you'll realize how nice it is.
