    What we don't need are spam laws.
    What we need are blacklist laws. This way, when I need to send all my paid subscribers a system outage notice, I don't loose my right's to the uber-anti-spammer / class action lawyers.

    as you start to read these law's I keep on seeing that 1 right after another is lost.

    people wake up, spam is a problem, but a solid group of databases, where legal issues don't arise, would help in resolving these issues.

    as much as you want it to be common sense, it's not.

    you write something, and then the government takes it and creates a law utilising all your text.

    you don't get a dime for your work. and you might still be subjected to lawsuits ( hey what you wrote might be wrong ). so there ends the public participation. for if I build a house to the spect that they tell me to and it falls down, then I am taking then to court also

    just a simple note, The Incas had runners that were about a mile apart from each other, and would relay messages, it took 5 days from the farthest points to the incan capital to send a message.

    messages traveled at about 8 miles per hour.

    yes that was on discovery channel and it was about super hero powers and trying to create them in humans.

    that specific one you mentioned, brain wave monitoring and game playing is rather interesting.

    back in 1980's you could buy a brain wave pick up ( 3 pick up's on a strap rapped on your head ) that would interface with you IBM AT, there was no game's ,but you could see your wave activity 1 sample per every 20 seconds. I only recal this because I bought it back then ( 160.00 ) and used it to plot my activity while doing math ( geek stuff ).

    there is GPS that can be used that will give you an error rate of less than 4 millimeters. The military has one that fit's within a suitcase and is used to get accurate pinpoint locations of future targets.

    Yes but here is the classic line. Does the band own the rights to the the music?. if they do, then you will be clear.

    now here is the other side of the coin, do you have advertsing on your site that is directly related to that lyric, if so, it would seem to most people that you are earning a living on someone elses work without paying them for it.

    but hey what do I know.

    I should correct my statement to read.

    when bands get together and practice there works, the interaction of the music is noted and brought to the studio in that manner.

    I con not recall exactly, but I believe with THE WHO, the drummer followed the guitarist, not the other way around.

    and with Rush there was a huge interation of the band and the developement of the music before recording ( then again , I recall most of thier music from the 70's when it first came out ands some of the press they would get. )

    you would need a rather wide net of cable modems because an attack like this to have a sustain rate. becasue the second the attack was turned on, there would be router issues at key junction within networks.

    Amazing, you post the best response about issues using PT.

    People don't realize that the best music comes from band interaction. the WHO who's music will live for a long time.. there band had a huge interaction amoung each other. same for Rush, Metalica and other very popular bands that feed off each other while creating music.

    but to the topic, the money is fronted to the band, the band then is required to produce the tracks. how they produce the tracks is not related to the lable, if anything they should be able to produce more tracks for the album because studio time will be less and the artist keeps more of the advance.

    Well said, I live on both sides of this fence on the issue. On one hand I help artist out with getting there name on the net, in exchange I ask for a percentage of the sales from the web sites.

    on the other hand I get asked to help artist that want to do it for free and have helped them, no money in it, they do eat more of my time, but it's fun to help.

    the later groups want thier music downloaded to get popular. but I've already seen the action of one group that made it decently ( 5K songs downloaded ). they signed with a lable and sold out for cheap.

    last time I help any band for free without some sort of backend to a deal.

    in reference to bandwidth caps on wireless networks ....

    due to the abuse already being seen, most of the smaller players are telling there clients the better times when they can do the megadownloads, otherwise they will advise the client that if they bought 125kbps size pipe then they will have only that. bandwidth management is a huige issue in wireless due to the abuses.

    Oh and for those that say we will just bury it under port 80. think again, you can squeeze the pipe to the client without having any issues.

    you are hitting the nail on the head with that one.

    If an ISP, notices that your running a freenet system, you have just placed them in a very unique state. they could terminate you for having a server, or they could be subject to court orderes if your server is found to have been a storage location for illegal porn, ( how would you like to be arrested for running a server that had kiddy porn ) even after the charges are dropped you'll never get that blotted out of your records.

    nothing wrong with the idea, but personally I would prefer to know what I'm storing.

    but the point being expressed is that, given the choice, the better person does not need to lower themselves to prove that they are better.

    I can see it now. Some grad student get's pissed off at someone in the firm and cause the entire network to fail.

    Then for some odd reason they can not get it back up again for 5 days, the losses are so staggering that the business has to lay off 50% of the employee's

    the guy goes to jail for 30 days and people are out of work .... what justice is that.

    amazing, all everyone complains. I wish that other here would stand up and fight there local government and place there hard earned cash for the fight.

    But I guess not, I have yet to meet another geek or for that matter anyone interested in the city counsel meetings, I am one of the tipical 3 and then they listen.

    but if you are not willing to fight in front of there faces ( instead you sit by the computer and grumble away ) you deserve what you get.

    all I know is :
    a) 26 inches of snow removed on all my towns street, we had clear ( see the pavement) streets
    b) police patrols every 12 minutes covering most of the town.
    c) huge response of the volenteer fire department when a home is on fire.

    if any of the above did not happen I would be yelling at the city counsel. which is what I do when they don't do right by the community.
