when I was younger I would walk with my mother in NYC, sometimes people on bikes are ass-hat's ( 80's and 90's).
I still laugh to this day... I am crossing a crosswalk with my mother and some bike blows a whistle to warn me, I turn, stop, take a stance, block my mother from the impact, bang, He went down hard. kept walking with mom.
yes, my forearms hurt like hell, but I am rather sure he did not get up from his impact upon meeting the street.
In NYC, I've seen bikers being clotheslined off the bike, forearmed, run over just because they did not want to stop at the red.
No Cyclist are not safe, most people have never done a tuck and reached speeds of 50MPH on a 1980's ten speed ( modern bikes are most likely better to handle 50 MPH ). my old New Jersey - Alpine road crew was a 22mph crew and we were somewhat sane. But every year on the road someone would get hit by a car that "came out of no-where".
besides, why does a bike get the right to run a light while someone in a car has to sit on the light for the 30 seconds?
Try running a light in sunny isles fl, seen them pull over 16 people once for running the light. bunch of pissed off cyclist.
This might be the most important statement in this entire discussion.A factual presentation of the data vs. what the police officer thought he saw. as this tech get's better, less and less auto accident and less speeding tickets will happen. the function of police will be crime related and no longer the revenue production of tickets from auto's.
I suspect you are correct in thinking of protection of the DNS or a website when under attack. You might appreciate this https://twitter.com/olesovhcom... 2 years ago someone got hit with an attack, 1.1 T not G but T. being able to shield one's self from these types of attacks might be ok.
Now a funny thing about junk traffic, it's a good place to learn what to filter out, I look forward to a cleaner system over the next 10 years ( when I owned an ISP back in 2000 we were fighting the same battle and no one cared. it takes a $$$ for people to react to these things
I come from a time when we looked at cycles of a process to see what we could do to reduce the cpu's usage ( and all the other steps ), I believe the reason for working in the IPv4 space is similar to that, they are first trying to find out what is going on with the least amount of junk in the system from their end.
DNS resolving is such a critical issue that the lessons learned in one space, Might ( not will or work ) be transferable to the IPv6 space. So I would think that the processing cycle savings by working in IPv4 space might be a huge ( well my math is rusty so 255 x 254 x 253 = 16386810 in savings per processing cycle ) not a lot but still a small saving.
Another perspective also brings out the point, that if the junk traffic can be cleaned out ( nulled ), the new savings can be used for better end-user experience. We have a correlated example of this back when hurricane sandy hit. Spam numbers decreased by a noticeable percentage, this would lead to the following assumptions ( but not fact ), Less energy use overall. So testing on the starting platform, finding results, and seeing if it can be brought out to the next level is a good thing for the growth of the 'net'
of course I could be totally wrong and it was some upper management choice because they did not know better.
Well, from what I do recall, it was a specific Chinese language pack that got the thumping. But you might be right it was about 20 years or so ago. I guess you can say MS gave away the drugs for free to establish market share.
Talk to Microsoft about that one, back in the mid to late 90's a rumor went out about MS doing mass delete on illegal installs. To the point where sales in China started to hit new high's. Personally, I don't see an issue with the mass delete, crash the system with a bad dll but taking passwords, that seems wrong.
while it's over my head the skills required it's still a ton of fun looking at satellites and such http://www.thehumanitystar.com... that's the disco ball satellite that went up a few days ago and in 41 days it will be over my house. I hope to see it with my eyes and then binoculars.
being the Real Estate market for mobile homes, I can assure you that used inventory has dried up considerably. The salvageable wreck is completely gone south of tampa. So its a new 45K home for a lot now.
Well, Ray, I see that you do not invest in real estate in Florida. Mobile homes on average for an investor generate about 4% to 6% above the long-term government bond rate ( right now mobile homes are netting before taxes an 9.3 % yield for my clients ). Most mobile homes do not fall apart in a few years, they stay solid for up to 50 years if you do decent maintenance.
Also, the house's do not always go up in value. let's see 1987 to 1990 or 2007 to 2010, and like that, we can find lot's of national boom and bust also regional boom and bust. While I am not an investor in the San Francisco or Seattle/Portland market I can expect it to top off soon, as new buildings start to come online, rent's will level off and experienced real estate pros will sell into the peak market. Lot's of "not in my backyard" legal filings but the builders bought 16 years ago knowing that they would have to wait.
good luck, may you own the correct profitable property.
offtopic : liberals are learning to operate like a lynch mob, because the protest with flowers and speeches did not really provide the results. So they just copied what has worked.
I would think that the right does not like that the left has chosen to become slightly to extreme violence. And i feel that the left will learn how to become extremely violent.
wishing both sides the best, I will be watching it in the news
I am looking at this from both sides. and I can see why someone wants a fast lane and a slow lane. but at the end, due to lack of a free market, ISP's are going to win, consumers are going to pay more.
the Netflix issue back in 2014-2015 proved a very valid problem, pipe size, and pipe quality and at the end, it's the peering arrangement. Comcast made Netflix pay for the pipe, so will everyone else in due time.
I think that when the telephone pole and access to laying fiber improve we Might see an improvement from the ISP ( shit, I offer you fiber at the cable prices, with a free install, You are going to join me )
Back in the Day, fame was based on your skills, your ability to share, and signature style of the hack ( like putting up a sticker ). Not the public knowing shit but the people whom would you would respect.
I had the best dumpsters back then, heck I could almost know the entire color code of a 64 pair twisted wire.
funny thing is, I always look at telephone poles and try to understand some of the new devices mounted. amazing what you can learn.
Well, if in the pursuit of absolute freedom, some firms will pay the price. I don't think most of the world is ready for a Star Trek universe where most of the time, the growth of the mind is valued more than wealth.
A rather simple solution to that problem is... the scalper is the promoters hedge. Example :
the cost of the concert with the artist is 12 million.
I hedge the bet with selling the food concessions out to 3rd party I hedge the bet with selling the parking concessions again to a 3rd party I hedge the bet with selling the VIP concessions to another 3rd party. those 3 will cover about 20% to 30% of my cost, and I might be able to negotiate some back end too of those sales.
Now I price the tickets to sell @ 80% of my cost and keep the 20% of the rest as premium tickets. scalpers come in and purchase blocks of it, they cover the rest of my risk. I can safely goto stub hub or another venue to offer my private inventory and really make a good profit.
I don't understand why you would not want me to go to the scalper. If anything, the internet has shown that I can buy anything I want, when I want, as long as I am willing to pay the price.
Don't get me wrong, I don't like to pay 3 times the ticket price. If i want to see an artist, I'll pay. won't like it, but I'll pay.
When you have access, you can time your choices down to the day. a good example for me was; I had a choice, pay 250 for a concert ticket, or a cheap flight to Texas and see a rodeo the next day. The rodeo was fun as heck since I've never seen one as big as this before.
the internet has given rise to amazing choices, but you need to balance your choices. I can still find a lot of free concerts to go to or real cheap open air concerts.
I went and did the research myself about 7 years back, bought one made of plastic, and use it daily. My snore went from ( un-scientific ) so loud it could shake the bed and wake me up, to now it just wakes up the cat. better observation is, I feel better and I I haven't woken myself up on a bus is a long time.
I would advise anyone that has a snoring issue to give it a try. well worth it.
that's right, I expect my rights as a Pastafarian believer to be accepted. Can't wait until they try to tell me that global warming and pirates are not correlated.
Great then I have a question: I've dreamed that sometime in my future I will be able to use this map as a guild line http://planthardiness.ars.usda... it's the hardiness map, to advise the US of where we need lighter colour pavement. so this leads to the question. how do you lighten pavement without changing slipperiness and or night driving issues?
Well, I got some slight knowledge of this: reference point is South Florida A) trees can't be 6 feet apart, trunk to trunk should be about 30' B) native species to the area are needed and have a cost basis of about $40
C) ( blocked views ) you can not plant a tree on a corner C1) nor can it be 75 feet from the corner C2) drivers side can not be 85 feet from the corner C3) Corner does not start at the swale or hellstrip, starts at the property line
D) digging a hole is not easy, you got top sandy earth then coral.
E) Native species are in tune to drought, so watering is an option, not a requirement. the city has a truck that waters plants.
F) North side plantings incur a liability of blocking the sun on private land ( sun rights ), so if I have solar, how will the city compensate me. F1) South Side plantings cover the pavement.
G) if a driver hit's a tree planted by the city, does the driver have a legal right to claim anything to the city? ( this is where DOT studies come into play ) and does the city have to buy insurance for this.
hindsight is 20/20, but what you can do is vote for the representative that has similar views and attend public meetings and voice your concerns. I happen to be voicing my concerns on the lack of tree's and over the last 2 years, I am finally being heard and they have started some basic plantings.
if you don't voice your views in a government forum and if you don't vote for your local rep's then you will get what others want.
That is a great Question, I wish I had an answer. on a simple observation, I did shake and feel disturbed by this patent. Therefore there is a good chance that it's legit and won't get overturned ( when I don't shake, then I know someone will find a prior work )
when I was younger I would walk with my mother in NYC, sometimes people on bikes are ass-hat's ( 80's and 90's).

I hope that this set's an example.

I just saw a VW Thing for $35K. super mint and perfectly restored. too much if you ask me, but if I had spare cash, it would be mine
