Well not only running a simple perl scrit would do. But lets add some extra features.
1) a wav file / visual clues could welcome the user to the site and advise them of the following.
a) if your eyesite is bad, move your mouse to the left side of the screen for larger characters.
b) if you can't see. then move your mouse to the right and you will get spoken versions of the text enclosed
2) when the user moves the respected sections a copy of the "normal pages" load up but with the special features.
I think it would not be so hard to recode the web pages for larger fonts. As for the speaking section. I think that there is enough software out there that can convert text to spoken word ( please advise of a link if you know )
as for checking the documents, that's were you'll lose some time but not that much.

the results only lead to a small loss but manybe long term gain. I have those engineers paid for most of the year to do normal work. I have a new 3600 user database to mail stuff to.

Currently ( don't hold me exactly to this) the weather channel does all it's graphic work on the O2's, then it sends every 12 minutes a compress/final rendered file to cable broadcasting stations ( i think it like 8200 stations) they have O2 systems also and they take the updated rendered file and whatever they need and broadcast it. I think ( and i could be totaly wrong ) it's like a HUGE network of just weather only O2 systems.
Good thing about O2 systems is that they can be networked together to multiply the rendering rate. Note I don't think that the weather Channel system network does this, all that it does is take the rendered file and and some local graphics above the rendered images.

We are on cable tv, I've signed 2 cable channels in NJ. I have 2 more channels to sign on my desk. An option ( given free to me ) domestic satalite channel deal for an entire 24 X 7 ONE FULL YEAR (do you have 3.7 million to spare so I can get/produce/buy some show to fill the slots). I do everything on a budget, and always look to promote the cashflow as the only reinvestment into doing a better show. Yah I know I need an AVID system or an SGI sytem. but let the shows prove itself in the market and the advertisers will pay the improvement for me.
In reference to buying on Ebay, I'm new to the television / editing equipment and I've consistanly read in the trade publication about hardware compatibility problems , so I have to look at buying brand new pre-configured systems just to avoid the down-time and config headaches. Trust me I have a small network (6 systems) of 133 to 500 mhz used pc's all networked and running real tight that has a total cost of $ 2500.00. Those will all be turned into a cluster of servers once I can afford a T1 line.
If you take a look at my web site ( shashdot style ) a pal of mine did it for almost free (he'll get pleanty of plugs when were covering the full NJ market). Were still working out all the bugs but hey I'm on a budget.
I'm still looking for editors if anybody is interested.

When your a startup, you do your best with what little resources you have. Your arguement is correct up to a certain point. Currently I'm changing from a linear editing to nonlinear. Mac's are what most people start out with. Also the learning curve should not be that steep.
Don't get me wrong I want my o2 sgi system but the cash outlay does not justify the return rate. Using the mac system, the rate of return on the investment and the ease of use is justified. Now if I had a $ 30,000 budget I would not be looking at mac's but for 4,000 I think I got the best bang for the buck. With all the new stuff coming out for pc's and mac's theres bound to be better stuff. I'll wait it out alittle longer.
Quality is based on different things. If you saw the show ( I closed a broadband deal so you'll be seeing it on our roll out in april) you would not be able to tell that it was done linear and non-digital (SVHS). Now were shoting digitally, and will be editing nonlinear. Quality of the show should be better, cut's should be cleaner, and graphics will be incorporated instead of using character generator.Believe me, I have already calculated the editing time difference ( 70% ). That means the producer can get more footage instead of him staying and editing and missing some good events.

Well, let's hope that all they promised will come foward. I just commited to buying a MAC to help us edit our TV show. One of the things that sold me is that the new OS10 will do is let me use 2 processors instead of one. That is real important, it should let me render the show in less time.
also I like the fact that they are commited to making the mac the best (inexpensive) hardware platform for the film/animation industry ( believe me I would like to have the sun systems here but I can't aford it )

The outcome of DDos / hacker attacks, will only lead to better security. Look at the advancements in personal pc security and how many more people are aware of them ( black ice, Zone alarm...). Also take into account the affects of mafiaboy's action related to CERT's recent annoucing that they will broadcast the exploits after a certain amount of days. ( i think it was CERT ).
The greater good of script kiddies and hackers is that they make people aware of the weakness. And knowing where your weak is the greatest advantage you can have to secure your system beter

Consider the following:
1) India is alot closer to the equator than the USA ( USA is about 25 degree's from the Equator. While India is about 10 degree's ).
that alone is a fuel savings. I really don't recall the amount of fuel saved but it is alot ( that's why the EC is working on building something in the Guyana's).
Brazil and Singapore (also Northern Australia) are the only other country's that have a location suitable for launch ( forget about Africa too mountainous where you need to be and no infrastructure)
2) I have read and I believe the amount of students that imigrate back to India after thier degree ( in whatever ) is greater than 50%.
So there goes the brain drain. Out of the USA into India's. So that might give them a leg up also.
3) Labor rates. If I'm right there should be about an 80% difference between the employment cost of labor in USA vrs. India's labor cost. I believe that having web pages outsourced by designers in India are currently at about $ 12.00 - $ 20.00 while US designers are at $ 90.00 - $ 115.00 US. So we might be able to get a saving of anywhere 50% to 90%.
4) Are we getting any funding?
I realy don't know. I hope so. I feel that the funding of space exploration is not moving foward. I can't prove it but I feel it.
5) having an enemy drives advancement.
USA has no current (big) threats. India has Packistan. That should motivate them to beat eachother into space. ( sure as hell did so for the atomic war head race)

First I would like to say that, I like this idea. Next thing i have to say is, I'm frighten by it.
It imply's to me that some where or some how, some can take oa photo of me, run it via a master DB and start to track my moves. Not that I have anything to hide. but I do enjoy running away from my office, killing my cell phone and not responding to any pages, it's just a raw pleasure that I get to enjoy.
Now I know that sooner or later, when I get on the train, drop myself off at the airport, fly to miami, and pick up a rental car ( with gps) they can track my every move.
Next thing they will do is cross reference the images with Credit Card transactions. Now they'll dispatch someone form the Miami office, find me on the beach, and telll me that the servers are down and I'm the only person that can fix it.
I would advise that you should be very careful, big brother seems to be getting closer.

Many good points mentioned above. But my history with unions is awful.. case in point.
I got a job at a medical manufacturing plant from a buddy of my dad. They put me on a machine that was producing 720 units per shift and i was told that's all it could do from the foreman. So what did I do, I spent that night reading the instruction book for that machine. The next day I had the sucker producing 2700 units in half of my shift time. The foreman patted me on the back and my car window was smashed. My dad's friend told me to slow it down. So what did I do, I got the sucker down to 900 units per shift, got yeld at by the foreman, got my locker broken into ( lost one hell of great book), and had a wiper blade broken. All in 3 days.
So the end of that week I deciede to take my revenge on the entire union. I got the manuels for most of the plants presses and machinery ( plant was closed on sundays ) and wrote a 27 page memo to the president of the company. Come tuesday, I hit my machine and have it running at full speed, the next machine at full speed and 3 other machines running at almost there top speed. Total production I was told was about 13 days worth of output. I was smart enough to leave 1 hour before the shift change. All the while the president, and plant manager watched me behide a glass window.
I was told that most of the employees of the union were required to retrain and they would have to hit my production within 1 month. There were some layoffs from that plant within 2 weeks.
My fathers buddy never spoke to me again and we moved out of the area.
I think unions are good if the union understands that they have to produce at the maximum levels of skills they have and that they also have a good employer that will offer consistant training to improve the knowledge of the union. Better educated workers bring better productions with less stress and long term benifits to the firm.
It seems to me that it all boils down to, If your visiting the store and think your going to buy, go into the door. Otherwise just walk to the next store.
And if your someone whom writes down the prices, it's ok, as long as you do it politely and do not get in the way of my customers.
Just think about it. If I had a site that get/. every 1 hr. what would i do? I'd ask the offending parties to please reduce the amount of hit's. if that doen't work then I'd block them. if they go around my moves then I will have to think they are out to do my some sort of harm ( hey bandwidth is expensive) to me and my system, and I'm forced to take legal action. I could take the law into my own hands ( doss attack ) but that would make me legally wrong.
Best case I think is that we set up a robot tos page . this page will charge the bot indexing company a certain rate for reading the web site. That robot tos page will be mentioned in robots.txt as a non-indexable page. Therefor if a rouge robot get's into the system I have an acountable party to bill for abuse of my system.

I would think that M$ would come out with it's own version of Unix, make it very compatable with Linux, and just get the corporate to buy it. There was an old saying back in 1982.. "no one ever got fired for buying IBM" I would think that this could apply

Well I'm White. Your observations are somewhat correct. ( like that realy matters ) But I've taken some steps to rectify this issue within myself and a community.
I happen to be the only white guy in 4 firms that I own. Artist Corner ( music tv show ), KVP ( production company ), Shades of Hip Hop ( video's production on the urban underground ), one graphic design company. Of all these companies I have acted as VC and or partner. Mind you I don't have more than 25% interest in any of these firms. And there all recent startup within the past 2 years.
There is one golden rule that I have installed within the firms, we have to hire within the community ( the community gives us alot of love and we returned it ).
I act as the token "white boy" and again your right. Do you know how much respect any of our team's get when I show up. "gee theres the white guy let's ask him". We have a proceedure that I MUST be briefed and tested before I show up anywhere or see customers, and that's because it's excpected that I will be the one, that will have to bear the brunt of all question. Even though I have a 50/50 chance of getting or saying the wrong thing.
So if the truth is to be told. I'm white, in the public eye's I'm right, outsiders can't see past skin color, so work within the rules and show people that color doesn't realy mater.

First I would like to say that, I like this idea. Next thing i have to say is, I'm frighten by it.
It imply's to me that some where or some how, some can take oa photo of me, run it via a master DB and start to track my moves. Not that I have anything to hide. but I do enjoy running away from my office, killing my cell phone and not responding to any pages, it's just a raw pleasure that I get to enjoy.
Now I know that sooner or later, when I get on the train, drop myself off at the airport, fly to miami, and pick up a rental car ( with gps) they can track my every move.
Next thing they will do is cross reference the images with Credit Card transactions. Now they'll dispatch someone form the Miami office, find me on the beach, and telll me that the servers are down and I'm the only person that can fix it.
I would advise that you should be very careful, big brother seems to be getting closer.

Your statement above should be manditory for this group. Otherwise there will be little or no insentive for the group to close the exploit.
Giving the private members a heads up on the latest weakness of a system, might force sytem operators to update and review their security more often. This of course will lead to beter managed webhosting/service sites. The ones that don't updates will be forced out fo business.

Many good points mentioned above. But my history with unions is awful.. case in point.
I got a job at a medical manufacturing plant from a buddy of my dad. They put me on a machine that was producing 720 units per shift and i was told that's all it could do from the foreman. So what did I do, I spent that night reading the instruction book for that machine. The next day I had the sucker producing 2700 units in half of my shift time. The foreman patted me on the back and my car window was smashed. My dad's friend told me to slow it down. So what did I do, I got the sucker down to 900 units per shift, got yeld at by the foreman, got my locker broken into ( lost one hell of great book), and had a wiper blade broken. All in 3 days.
So the end of that week I deciede to take my revenge on the entire union. I got the manuels for most of the plants presses and machinery ( plant was closed on sundays ) and wrote a 27 page memo to the president of the company. Come tuesday, I hit my machine and have it running at full speed, the next machine at full speed and 3 other machines running at almost there top speed. Total production I was told was about 13 days worth of output. I was smart enough to leave 1 hour before the shift change. All the while the president, and plant manager watched me behide a glass window.
I was told that most of the employees of the union were required to retrain and they would have to hit my production within 1 month. There were some layoffs from that plant within 2 weeks.
My fathers buddy never spoke to me again and we moved out of the area.
I think unions are good if the union understands that they have to produce at the maximum levels of skills they have and that they also have a good employer that will offer consistant training to improve the knowledge of the union. Better educated workers bring better productions with less stress and long term benifits to the firm.

It seems to me that it all boils down to, If your visiting the store and think your going to buy, go into the door. Otherwise just walk to the next store.

I'd ask the offending parties to please reduce the amount of hit's. if that doen't work then I'd block them. if they go around my moves then I will have to think they are out to do my some sort of harm ( hey bandwidth is expensive) to me and my system, and I'm forced to take legal action. I could take the law into my own hands ( doss attack ) but that would make me legally wrong.
And if your someone whom writes down the prices, it's ok, as long as you do it politely and do not get in the way of my customers.

Best case I think is that we set up a robot tos page . this page will charge the bot indexing company a certain rate for reading the web site. That robot tos page will be mentioned in robots.txt as a non-indexable page. Therefor if a rouge robot get's into the system I have an acountable party to bill for abuse of my system.
any further ideas ?

I would think that M$ would come out with it's own version of Unix, make it very compatable with Linux, and just get the corporate to buy it. There was an old saying back in 1982.. "no one ever got fired for buying IBM" I would think that this could apply Michael
your truely evil. I laughed so loud the the security guard from down the hall came to see what was so funny.
Now see what happens when a stable version of Linux comes out.
Let us hope that not to many people complain about the use of atomic fuels. I think that this is the greatest thing happening.

Well I'm White. Your observations are somewhat correct. ( like that realy matters ) But I've taken some steps to rectify this issue within myself and a community.
I happen to be the only white guy in 4 firms that I own. Artist Corner ( music tv show ), KVP ( production company ), Shades of Hip Hop ( video's production on the urban underground ), one graphic design company. Of all these companies I have acted as VC and or partner. Mind you I don't have more than 25% interest in any of these firms. And there all recent startup within the past 2 years.
There is one golden rule that I have installed within the firms, we have to hire within the community ( the community gives us alot of love and we returned it ).
I act as the token "white boy" and again your right. Do you know how much respect any of our team's get when I show up. "gee theres the white guy let's ask him". We have a proceedure that I MUST be briefed and tested before I show up anywhere or see customers, and that's because it's excpected that I will be the one, that will have to bear the brunt of all question. Even though I have a 50/50 chance of getting or saying the wrong thing.
So if the truth is to be told. I'm white, in the public eye's I'm right, outsiders can't see past skin color, so work within the rules and show people that color doesn't realy mater.
