i'm a current student and i haven't heard anything about this. but the current policy for anything going funky with your dorm computer (be it sony or columbia leaning on ITSS to "investigate" filesharing or virus spewing) is to terminate the net connection and send you an email. of course, they assume you'll be checking your webmail on another computer. and if you're caught sharing stuff (technically it's only the recording companies that can initiate shutdowns, ITSS tends to do the least amount of work possible), you get to wipe your drive clean of offending material and wait 2-3 weeks for your net connection.
i am not looking forward to watching a bunch of '07 n00bs crash my net connection to the tune of blaster/welch.
well what's the point of using a ladder when you love to climb rocks? plus perhaps the chimney is more than your standard ladder can handle. i don't recall many garden accessory shops near downtown cambridge.
someone tell me why he couldn't leave a txt msg on his website and just pull the plug on his blacklist machine. no wonder i haven't gotten any of the emails i've been expecting this morning...
what about social engineering? or do they trust management and sysadmins to be socially mobile, compatible, and perceptive? i think humans are one of the weaker links in the security chain.
this was a concern during the solar car rayce this summer. apparently stanford's battery pack had some problems with its battery protection circuits, and there was a fire in the car at some point. bags of ice were later used to keep things cool across arizona. this sounds untenable for cell phones however.
more pics of the vallus marinarus...largest known canyon in the solar system. and take some closeups of the polar caps and those areas that look like fluvial deposits...evidence of water and all.
You forget to mention that Vomit Unlimited, the fading company, is publicly owned, and its takeover bid of the park is motivated by greedy CEOs looking to inflate their stock and dump it at higher prices.
Meanwhile, a few amusement park visitors, cowed by fear, uncertainty, and doubt, pay the $699 admissions fee and enjoy the same rides that they previously enjoyed for free.
i'm disappointed at my questions not being modded high enough ='( oh well.
all she says on her website is "raise taxes for the top bracket" and "cuts aren't enough" and "i will restore fiscal discipline."
what about paid family leave, which caused companies to run from california and moved jobs away? or those tech visas that let companies bring over people to take away tech jobs? don't blame it on the have/have-not inequality; there are deeper issues behind the economy.
she doesn't adequately explain how she can not believe in the legitimacy of a recall and still run in that recall race. i presume if she says that california deserves a good governor, then she, in some part, believes that the recall is legitimate enough to elect a legitimate governor.
i don't think gay marriages and legalizing marijuana should define the campaign, as she said. i think the controversial issues, the reasons for the recall itself, are the economy of california, the inability of the state to get anything done, and gray davis' inability to work with the legislature. those are the reasons why a recall is needed; THOSE SHOULD DEFINE ALL THE RECALL CANDIDATES' CAMPAIGNS. the recall is about saving california, not a litmus test for social issues.
and if her staff is all volunteers, heaven help her (if she believes in such) because the big names in political maneuvering will go to the people who are willing to solidly define themselves on issues, and it doesn't seem like she'll get much help. (unless she drafts me? ah but the odds are against me; net interaction between women and me is negative) even then, i'm just a neophyte.
vi AND emacs? the question was meant for her to choose, not to explain good points of both! well she's learning as a politician how to keep both sides of the aisle happy i guess...=P
In addition to cybercrimes, the authors of the virus should get slammed with being accomplice to or obstructing public works then. They cause damage, they pay, no matter how unintended.
I am not a Fakester. I am a real Friendster. The purpose of Friendster is to form social networks, connect with friends, and make new friends. Trust a bunch of idiots to go screw around with that and turn it into a political platform, compensation for their tiny dicks, or a booster for their severe lack of RL friends. "Ooh, I have 3 million people in my personal network for my Jennifer Lopez account! I feel so accomplished!" Get a real life.
Ice is less dense than water, remember? The sea levels theoretically should not change since the volume of water displaced by the ice is as large as would be needed to have the same mass as the ice.
Global warming has not been conclusively proven to be soley anthropomorphic in nature. There's a great body of scientific and historical evidence that says we're coming out of a cooling cycle, and there's even more evidence that says anthropomorphic activity is far outstripped by geochemical processes in terms of regulating CO2. This says nothing about the shortsightedness of resource wasting, but you can't go around thinking the human race has any great warming/cooling effect on a planetary environmental scale. Pretty anthropocentric. The rocks will dominate in the long run, long after humans die out (whenever that is). Besides, who are we to say that the Earth must be in perfect equilibrium at the point where we humans are comfortable? (We are just coming out of a cooling cycle remember. Maybe equilibrium temperatures haven't been reached yet.)
The team said it retrieved foreskin tissue from two 5-year-old boys and two men, and facial tissue from a 60-year-old woman, as a source of skin cells.
We can't even be sure that those samples were taken from consenting subjects. Aside from ethical concerns over that half of the experiment, it's possible that such a being could have developed, but given that not enough time had passed for development of a fetus, we'll never know what effect rabbit cytokines (within the egg) would have had on the development of the organism. Remember that the animal/vegetal pole distinctions are made by initial partitioning of maternal mRNA/cytokines, which means that DNA transplantation is not enough to guarantee viability. The transcription factors coded for by the mRNA are likely mismatched to the human genome, resulting in failure of survivability.
Did anyone see the DMCA or RIAA legal pack of business coming ten years from now? Just think of what life in the future will be like post-resolution-of-said-issues. Orrin Hatch wants to crack our cases with destructive virus files...what will electronic entertainment of the future be like?
Cold War II: The Race between Digital Rights and Hackers.
1. Cancer. Have you any idea what tinkering with telomerase does?? DNA is inherently windows-like in that many bugs exist. We humans have the advantage of natural selection, that is, enough safeguards have been raised to where the genes that promote growth (hallmark of tumors) are checked by other genes. Telomerase is a while function for DNA replication...that is, while telomere length is not zero, replication is permitted. At the point where telomerase chops off that last bit of telomere, it's likely that the cell no longer has enough integrity in its DNA to safely replicate. So in reality, you're removing a safety mechanism against cancer.
2. Aging. Immortalizing your body's cells does nothing to remind the cells to stop aging. Remember the Greek myth of the man who wished for and received immortality, only to find out too late he aged horribly and ended up as a cricket. Moral: ask for eternal youth, not immortality.
3. Resources. You think the Earth is overpopulated now? Wait a bit and see. Social Security will drop out (or raise age limits). People will live longer lives but those additional years of life will be, on the whole, less productive as the earlier ones. Healthcare will be a mess. You'll have a ton of unproductive, non-contributing old people sitting around in various states of mental capacity. Each one of them will take up food, water, IP addresses, land, air, and maybe some assisted care. And don't even think for a minute you can use genetic technology to slow aging--nature isn't that easy to circumvent.
Why does one want to live forever? I'm a blaze of glory guy, personally.
so when EQ or UO decide to take their servers offline because the next generation of W32.blaster decides to target them (or sysadmins start patching real fast), or when a freak accident simultaneously fries all the power supplies to their servers, or when a massive earthquake knocks out the west coast servers...
is there any monetary recompense for these poor folks? i mean, that's their livelihood. job security indeed. real life can take the fun out of an internet job so fast.

number of students per class (as in, student faculty ratio), research opportunities (here the PhD programs help), and lots of advisors.
and weather. i can't deal with trudging to school through wet slush or knee high piles of snow.
