At the end of the day though, it boils down to if you feel like the product is equal to the value you spent. If it's not then as a consumer it's your responsibility not to buy it! Or simply pay what you feel it's worth.
Yeah I guess some folks got a nice bonus out the deal, but I certainly don't feel cheated.
In regards to your last comment, I'd say that has to be some of their motivation. I have friends who've bought the CSS/DOD/HL2DM pack for lan marties, but still never experienced EP1. I will happily try to turn them on with my extra copies of HL2.
I guess I just don't see the issue. I'd pay $30 for Portal, $40 for TF2, and $20 for EP2 (sry big multiplayer guy here). This just seems like a great value to me. It's $45 to preorder, and I get TF2 early. Holyshit, whats the issue?
But it illustrates that if you can't run a game with paired down dx10 features in high res, real dx10 features will choke just as much in standard res.
Relic designed the dx10 ver of Company of Heroes using specfications without hardware to test it on. The patch got delayed bc they haad to par it down so much.
Well there's finally a "Call of Juarez" demo that a couple of reviews have been throwing around. It's pretty unoptimized code, apparently. These cards do ok on it considering.
The 2900XT offers great value though. It sucks power like 12 pound new born, sure, but in modern game engines it clocks just a hair under the 8800GTX. The difference is literally just a few frames. Not bad for a part thats up to $200 cheaper.
At least wait for a june refresh if you're going to buy nvidia.
You can do pretty well estimating your performance if you have a general understanding of how your components work together.
First measure FPS in your favorite app at the lowest resolution. That's the measure of your CPU bottleneck. No matter how nice of a GPU you buy, you'll never get higher FPS than that.
Memory is one of those things you can never have enough. Just don't worry about the bandwidth too much. Your only going to squeeze out just a few frames per second with top of the line RAM. Just watch to see if your comp is hitting the hard drive much and consider more if it is.
Most new games are still GPU limited and this is where you want to focus your attention. Look for benchmarks at resolutions you play at. This is a good baseline of what to expect. Anything over 60fps avg I tend to be happy with, but you may want consider the minimum too. Right now the only benchmarks I've really been interested in are of Rainbow Six: Vegas. It uses the Unreal 3 Engine, and a lot of games are coming out that are going to be using it too. Other benchmarks might be important to you as well, but they tend to rank in the hundreds and so you know performance won't be an issue.
So you're basically saying that all those systems had poor success because they we're the company's third system? Sorry but that's a bit arbitrary, don't you think?
The fact that Nintendo made nothing but profits in it's third console throws this theory out the window. Naturally there is a certain degree of evolution though,
I do agree with you though that Sony should take a major hit on the PS3 to increase market share. From the amount of talk among developers pulling support based on unit sell through, this is something Sony really should do.
The N800 appears to be smaller than the 770. Those comparison shots were taken without the cover on the 770. I have a 770 and it I'd say the N800 is slimmer, and even with the cover the 770 easily fits in my jeans and jacket pocket.
The plug on the button of the 770 sucks becuase you cant lay it on your lap or desk while its plugges in. Moving the charging port to the side was one of the first things I would have changed about it.
If you actually used the 770 youd know that the buttons are shit. Now that Nokia has done away with the cover they can make them more pronounced. It would also appear that placing the buttons in the same pad makes them more ergonomic and easier to press without moving your thumb too much. I haven't used the new model so I can't be sure.
I couldn't care less about the color, the fact that it has twice the ram and a cpu boost means that its going to play higher quality movies and multitask without having to choke on the swap. Besides, I'm going to be looking at that massive screen resolution not staring at the faceplate.
Nintendo ALWAYS does massive marketing, PUBLIC marketing, Real world usage marketing.
There, fixed the spelling for you;)
The events you referenced are not beta tests, and given that they occured just 2 months prior to launch, would be pretty foolish. Those are software previews on finished hardware. Iwata himself stated in his "Iwata Asks" series that they did not beta test the remote prior to its unveiling. Even the name was chosen solely by it's board without focus testing.
I noticed this as well, with around 1.5 million sold worldwide, how will Big N sell through 2.5 mil more? If it will happen, I'd presume the european launch will give those numbers a boost. Apparently a fairly large shipment of Wii's and accesories is hitting the 18th of this month as well. So maybe a million in Europe and America this month, with another 500k in Japan?
This assumes they have 4 mil consoles to sell ofcourse.
Okay, so maybe thats a legitimate point.

Oh wow! But does it require friends codes then? Because it's tough enough to get new D&D players as it is.
I'm having good luck on usenet. The torrents and public hosts are completely bogged.

Wow for a second I read that as "killed her dead..." Hope things are going strong still!
They do, sorta. Doesn't go black but from clear to opaque.

I didn't think encrpyting data twice or more over increased it's level of security. Can anyone say a piece on this?
Oh...good post.

I realize you're making a joke but that term is pretty offensive.

Mod parent under-rated. The user raises a ligitmate point.
If you were running the server can't you just kick and ban ther griefer? Mani's admin mod makes it easy to do this.

Nintendo doesn't really beta test because they are so secretive. The most they tested was letting board members and employee familys come in to play.
Awesome, thanks!
At least it's not a button button button.

It's my understanding that the GCN version is mirrored also.
