Actually, this was done already in a major motion picture: Eyes Wide Shut. The orgy scenes in the manor included some CGI-created people f*cking. Unfortunately, most of hte effects were removed prior to the film's release to obtain an R rating.
Since when is it the job of government to make certain sectors of the economy profitable? ok, since the early 20th century, propping up farmers and steel producers.
But the end result of not allowing taxes of online commerce is that there will be government subsidies to states that have online businesses.
That's ridiculous.
drive prices up for the consumer
Now, you're not even trying to see the state's side of this. They don't look at it as increasing prices, but rather, increasing tax revenue to increase services to the state's inhabitants.
Can you really justify not giving the poor people of California, Massachusetts, and Virginia the food stamps and Section 8 housing checks they so richly deserve?
Besides the obvious method of saving money, it's possible that drive manufacturers reduced their warranties under pressure from resellers... it helps OEMs and channel sales companies sell THEIR OWN service plans which are big money.
Think of it in terms of Best Buy's attitude towards Apple/Macintosh computers. Apple used to have the best warranty in the computer business (3 years parts and labor, I believe). That meant that noone could sell an extended service plan (ESP) on a Mac. Because hardware margins are so low, Best Buy declined to carry Apples because they would never make any money on the ESPs.

If there are some people in my company working at 20%, then I guess I am doing the jobs of 5 people....
This is a dangerous book to hype during a time of layoffs and cutbacks. I've seen alot of folks that were tinkering with skunkworks projects lose their jobs because they were viewed as non-essential.
Slashdot is the site I spent 90% on when I'm connected to the internet. It's the first thing I read every day.
It takes me about 30 minutes to read everything of interest each morning. Does that mean you spend 25 minutes online each day? In that case, your opinion doesn't count for much IMHO...

I am not sure of $199 is a cheap enough price point to overcome the shame of walking past a WalMart greeter with a brand new computer. That is soooooooooooooo white trash.

All the slow EJB installs I have seen have the following problems:
Bad database design or just poor JAVA programming.
Bad database design does not make EJBs slow any more than it makes ANY architecture run poorly.
Use of remote classes where local ones would make sense.
In EJB 2.0, there is an increased distinction between accessing local and remote interfaces.
Superman can barely move his left foot and he eats through a straw that is attached to his helmet.
How the hell would Christopher Reeve kill Batman?
This is about the gayest thing I have ever read on slashdot. I feel icky now.

Is if they started broadcasting Opie & Anthony. They provided compelling programming.
My afternoon commute has been a lot less entertaining since they got kicked off the air.
well, where I come from, a "switch" has a totally different meaning...
Don't you know that if you see an unseen scene you destroy it?
There is an easy fix for this: Put a towel over your head.

Overheard:
"No, honey, I said put the phone up to YOUR _EAR_!."
New shorts. Wrong trousers.

most people who purchase $2.99 "ShakyCam" copies of new release films off the street
Most street vendors do not charge $2.99. They round it off and just say "3 bucks". Having a price end in "99" is a ploy by stores, not street folks.
5 years of naked Natalie Portman? She was what, 13 then?
Dude, you're going to jail.

as novel as crapflooding
What is that? Does it require a courtesy flush?
the Happy Birthday song. As you may or may not know, the rights are owned by Warner-Chappell Music. You will have to pay royalties.
It generates $1 million in annual royalties. You can hum it, though, since only the lyrics are protected.
Then they'll drive into Washington, D.C. on Oct. 8
Good luck finding a parking space for the 21st century RIF (Reading Is Fundamental) van.
If the RIAA just took a short term hit...and produced higher quality music...
What are you talking about? My new Dixie Chicks CD sounds at least as good as a 128 bit-rate.
Grin.

The KDE desktop looks and feels like Windows, with a few exceptions. You have to double-click an icon on the desktop to get it to open...
Last time I checked, I had to double-click on the icons, too, and I am running Win2k.
Baraka?
From imdb: "A movie with no conventional plot: merely a collection of expertly photographed scenes."
Also sounds like Attack of the Clones.
I just hope to hell that my employer doesn't block Morpheus.
Score 0 - Just not true. Even when I slap her the biscuits are late.
