    With the Mac OS you have to supply your credentials to get that crummy EXE to run as ROOT. So with the Mac the user would have had a second change to redeem his soul.

    Why don't they sue Microsoft? I am sure this security hole is something that Microsoft could have fixed long ago if they had not outsoced the development to people in India that to not understand security or how to write a stable software product.

    When will Microsoft pay for these blunders?

    1) The clueless Windows user that call the tower the hard drive.
    2) UNIX geeks that are tired of messing with Linux

    Windows gamers do not match. Windows gamers match 100% using an XBox or PS2 for gaming. They would save a bundle in hardware upgrades as well...

    I love my hammer. I can use it for 101 things. The most amazing thing is that if someone at work has a flat and no jack or tire wrench I can help them with my favorite tool!

    I can change anyones tire with just my favorite hammer. It might not be the best tool for the job but it sure gets the job done. I usually have to break the lug-nuts off because the technique is not something the average car owner possesses.

    If Auto mechanics knew this they could save money on buying tools. The would just need one big hammer to get the job done.

    The irony is that Bill Gates claims to be making a stable operating system and Linus Torvalds claims to be trying to take over the world.

    Did mainframes need this? Do embedded computers need this feature? I agree aircraft need it when it crashes and all on board are dead.

    We need a computer that when it crashes people die, like a completely green one that runs on nuclear energy. I would have to agree that this system should have a black box, run by an external process with a different OS.

    Microsoft just needs to write good code. If they can't fix it they should start over with a new OS that runs on UNIX, like OS X.

    Tiger runs existing applications. What will longhorn run?

    64 bit windows will be great when it is everywhere. 64 bit xp and server 2003 should be good enough for a LONG time. Customers are in need of a fixed OS, not one that is so different they have to change everything.

    DEC had 64 bit Alpha machines in the early 90's and they hauled ass. It is 15 or so years later and Microsoft is still lagging behind!

    I would say Microsoft could just buy the source for VMS and hire all the engineers to work at Microsoft. They could make a win32 layer for VMS and have Windows apps running on a real OS. It could cost less and be a thing where Microsoft says that COTS helped them reduce costs to deliver a product...

    It might be that Microsoft is trying to have all of Longhorn written in India...

    You can do a 100% cisco solution and get the job done right.

    Assume 20 users per AP. 200,000 users would mean that you are looking at 10,000 access points with NO redundancy. OK, you want each client to have two access points to connect to so you are going to need 20,000 access points. Now you need switches to connect to. Lets assume you can connect 400 access points to one Cisco 6500 switch. You would need 50 switches at $100,000 each. 5 million in switches and 20 million in access points. Now you need the labor to install them, another 10 million. Software and hardware support per year is going to be like 3 million and you do not have the telco fees. Let see a 10,000 T1's thru the city... that is 5 million a month.

    If you assume you can do 200 users per AP the numbers are better but still very pricey.

    Just give everyone in the city a 3G phone and let the telco handle the network...

    My dad has a VW Jetta with the Direct Injection Turbo diesel engine. He gets 50-55 mpg and can get that driving from Michigan to Quebec to see my brother. That is a total of 775 miles. He would use 15 gallons of diesel, if I did that with my diesel truck it would take 40 gallons.

    I am willing to bet my life that your Toyota would use more gallons of gasoline to get to Canada than a TDI VW would... :-)

    I can do that cheaper than the Mac Mini with a Cheap ASS Dell. I just have to get rid of that spare tire and put the Hoover, I mean Dell in the place of the spare tire.

    I have never had to use that silly spare tire! I would much better like to have a Hoover, I mean a Dell computer in my spare tire area.

    I hope GM starts selling the Dell computer in my car as an option. Those cheap ass black cases look just as good as a black spare tire!
