  1. sucky domain name! on Wal-Mart Music Download Service Launches · · Score: 1

Anyone else try guessing the domain before clicking the link?
    I was sure it'd be www.WalMusic.com, but it wasn't - it's http://musicdownloads.walmart.com -- THAT'S HORRIBLE!
So, I bought www.WalMusic.com for $15. In about 24 hours it'll point to my homepage :) Tee hee! Maybe I can get my student loans paid off ;)

  2. Zero-Point Energy Technology on Where Are The Edges Of Today's Technology World? · · Score: 2, Interesting

This is the bleeding edge. Space Energy Access Systems has a $1M prize up for grabs to the first one who can demonstrate a working prototype of a zero-point energy machine. If you've researched Edwin Gray Sr.'s machines, or Nickola Tesla's "Magnifying Transmitter", then you know that these machines can be achieved. Think Tesla was crazy? He invented AC electricity. He designed & installed the power-plant at Niagara Falls. He was Edison's apprentice, and Edison stole some of his work. He had one of the highest security clearances available in the US, and worked with Einstein on the Philadelphia Experiment.

  3. What the HT really stands for on The Future of Battlefield Robots · · Score: 4, Funny

They say it's Human Transporter, but now we see that it was just a clever ruse all along... its true name is Segway Human Terminator.

  4. reach out & touch... on Ways to Beat the Telecommuting Blues? · · Score: 2, Informative

I am in the exact same situation, and have been for 2.5 years now. I find that several things help quite a bit: 1) a mid-day walk to a local coffeeshop to get outside and get your fix at the same time; 2) keeping the television as far away from you as possible; 3) going to local networking association events to both meet other developers and find clients (meetup.com is a great way to find these). 4) KEEP IN TOUCH with your friends and make a point of going out with them. Schedule it if you must. 5) Whatever you do, don't work after 'quitting time'. I found that because the work was always in the next room, I always worked on it... until midnight... and never got a break, because there was no 'hometime'. As a result I snapped and buggered off to do volunteer development at an NGO in Croatia. Wheeeeeeeeeeeee. That's a long way from Toronto ;)

  5. PDA Love on Synthesized Singers · · Score: 1

I want Diana Krall to be the voice of my PDA. I want her to sing my appointments to me. I want her to offer sultry condolences when I forget important dates, like anniversaries. Heck, I want her voice to teach me to sing. Maybe my shower could sing to me?

  6. video on Wireless-Friendly Microwaves · · Score: 1

There are already 802.11 video transmitters out there... but they're a bit expensive.
My x-10 audio/video sender gets nuked by my microwave, as does my linksys 802.11b access point's transmission signal. The microwave is brand new, and top of the line.
Incidentally, even my neighbours microwaves nuke my signal (I live in a condo).

  7. Neo, Smith, & Cyber-Bullying on The Rise of Cyber Bullying · · Score: 1

How long will it be until someone says "These cyber-bullies are terrorists waiting to happen -- they need to be jailed now!"
Patriot Act my ass -- it allows that sort of thing to happen.

I was bullied as a kid, but I turned out just fine, and when I visit my hometown, the bullies are still there, but now they pump that sweet sweet Iraqi gasoline into my American-Made Ford Mustang. I never smelled a sweeter victory than that.

Moral of the story: life is a series of ups and downs, and you can't really appreciate the ups without experiencing the downs.I wouldn't have the massive pleasure of the gas pumping now, if they hadn't bullied me then.

We are Neo, they are Smith, and Karma balances out the equation.

  9. bad meta tags on iTunes for Windows Breaking Older iPods · · Score: 1

In my experience, this is caused by newer (non-standard) meta tags that the player doesn't understand. Try setting all the non-ID3 tags to empty and then re-transfer and play :)

  10. Re:build your own! on The Ultimate Desk... Sort Of · · Score: 1

yeah! been thinking about that -- but ultimately i wanted the PC to be mostly hidden (from my hippy tree-hugger girlfriend) -- so i decided to keep it invisible... i am getting ready to embed a plexiglass lighted mousepad though!

yep - ATX. Holds a full sized mobo & geforce4 ti4200 no prob. Plus room for a whack of hard drives, and lots of other goodies :)

  12. build your own! on The Ultimate Desk... Sort Of · · Score: 5, Interesting

i built a desk to replace my case - so I'm not sure if it's a case mod, or a desk mod -- either way, i have no case now -- my entire pc is hidden inside my desk (except the monitor). When in "desk mode" the pc is invisible. You can pull out a drawer and tweak the mobo. Or fold down the drawer front to use the keyboard & mouse & access the drives.

  13. idioths! on Replace Your Music....Again · · Score: 1

    Are these people smokin' crack?
Who in their right mind would predict any physical media as "the next medium" for music?
    I went 100% MP3 in 1999!!!
Not because CDs were too expensive, but because I had to 'change the disc', and listen to 5 CDs at a time, etc.
Now that many people have tens and hundreds of gigabytes of digital music, they expect us to buy into another physical media?
    I don't think so!

  16. 1337 biotches on MSN Messenger Kickbans Third-Party IM Clients · · Score: 1

The problem with all you leet biotches is that while you say "I don't use MSN", the fact is that most of us are forced to, in order to communicate with our lame parents & less techie siblings who love the bubbly goodness (in their words) that is MSN. I much prefer ICQ, but I'm forced to Trillian, and have Y!, AIM, MSN, ICQ accounts. How long until Trillian supports a Skype plug-in?

  19. inversely proportional on Digging Holes in Google · · Score: 1

This writer is complaining that searching for the make & model of a dvd player turns up pages of online store results and no reviews. TRY SEARCHING FOR "make model reviews"!!!

The writer also complains that searching for "apple" doesn't find things related to Apple Computers right away, but that they're down the list with Fiona Apple etc. Well, for chrissake, SEARCH FOR "Apple Computer" if that's what you want!

I don't think these are 'googleholes' so much as users who don't realize that searching for more words returns fewer results (more focussed). It's inversely proportional, people!!!

  20. n00bz on WiFi Hotspots Elude RIAA Dragnet · · Score: 2, Interesting

What if i were just a n00b who knew nothing, bought a linksys 802.11b router, followed the "Quickstart Guide" (which does not enable wep), and was unknowingly sharing my connection with others. Surely the RIAA wouldn't sue my ass, would they? This is not the case for me, but it is for my parents and several colleagues...

It's awesome. The director's quote is "This is a soldier movie with werewolves, not a werewolf movie with soldiers".
