While it is true some volunteered after the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan began, others were already in the service and though they may not agree with the policies of the administration, they still have a contract to fulfill. And then you have the other that are 15 years into their 20 year career, would you have them just throw that all way?
Yes it is a volunteer force... doesn't mean we agree with the wars.
I'd imagine the problem is power distribution. With these they could theoretically have local solar farms which in turn could power water purification systems and wells. Unless they can pave roads with these things, you've got me on that one. I can definitely see the benefit to developing countries or HA/DAR support.
when is the last time you have flown? Have you seen the flight attendants lately? Remeber all those hot ones back in the 80s... well they are still there... and they aren't so hot anymore...
I care. I don't want them just staring at the big blue sky, I also want them focused on all of those blinky lights and widgets. Autopilots aren't infallible.
With the ban on texting and cell phone use with out a handsfree device for public transportation and the trucking industry, who finds this surprising? I'm only surprised that this wasn't already banned.
Where do you define the front line in asymmetric warfare? Chances are those support personnel have just as much chance to get blown up by an IED while conducting a logistics convoy or from a mortar round lobbed at the base, and that is not even accounting for the growing number of support personnel that are doing traditionally combat roles... perimeter defense, access control points, roadblocks, etc.
A lot of my friends are infantry types that manage to tweet or get on facebook while deployed. We had decent internet access during OIF I back in 2003...
Or perhaps it could be that full spectrum operations are just that complicated... it is not just about blowing crap up now.. you have to rebuild... and sometimes you are rebuilding more than just the crap you blew up...
PowerPoint is probably not a bad tool for pitching strategy at the level the General needs but the real crux of PowerPoint in the Army (at the operational and tactical level) is that it is dated information by the time you brief. The Army has spent a lot of money trying to solve this problem with Global Command & Control System (GCCS) and the Army Battle Command Systems (ABCS) via Command Post of the Future (CPOF). The real problem is the integration of legacy combat systems into one Common Operating Picture (COP) that gives ground truth at any given moment.
Actually, a lot of those are support personnel... there are a lot of people that support that one trigger puller... and you don't want to match the enemy one for one... you want triple their numbers or more... if the enemy has a platoon, we send a company, etc.
We have almost the same problem in the Army... there is a standard approval process that can take months or year to get something approved.. even basic things like a patch... and it doesn't even address things like do I need to get a webpart for SharePoint approved and if so what is someone really checking when it goes through the approval process
I kind of wish we had centralized censorship... as it is now someone may have access to one post but not another... and who knows when my post will get around to actually following the latest policy on social media... or I love when DoD or HQDA post a link on their website to some URL shortner or file hosting service and the local NEC has it blocked...
I have a HTC 6800 (Mogul) and I will take the tiny keyboard over a soft keyboard any day. The tactile feed back is a must and I don't have to give up any screen space for a keyboard.
Not sure about France, but when I bought my car, the tires which were included in the original purchase were covered by a separate company, the tire manufacturer, and so had a separate warranty and terms of use... I don't see how this is any different... it would be essentially asking the dealer to keep the tires and drop the price... not something they are likely to do
How about we have a real solution and make it illegal to solicit people at all. Why should I have to sign up for a special list so that someone I don't know can call me on a service I pay for about something I care nothing about. And while we are at it, include the charity folks in there, if I want to donate, I'll find you.
The DoD has been struggling with this same issues as well, they recently issued guidance that opened up social media on their networks.

I support this if it is still attached to the cats when we throw it in the oil
Except that you could use that 18,000 lbs of hair to soak up 18,000 quarts of oil in a minute... repeat every hour and soak up that 100,000 per day...

Doesn't seem that far fetched

A lot will still offer free wifi in the lobby.
If they would only make it look like Godzilla, I think they could get the whole thing funded by donations... where is the paypal button!

Holy shit! Eye witness accounts from 20,000 years ago?
So they can't scout your street without being seen but they can burgalarize your house or car without being seen?
Am I the only one who thinks the picture from TFA looks like a power ranger?

Or the CoMotion platform that is used in the Army's Command Post of the Future (CPOF) system.
