Those are the series' major flaw IMO, but apart from that, her character and acting are just cool. The dog has to go, btw, once and for all, now that I think of it. Stupid puppy.

But keeping focused on the text is the main problem, I do agree with a previous poster on that point. Another round of Mah-Jongg is by far too close around the corner, and then my Jornada is also capable of playing mp3s... I'm quite sure they paid proper attention to that. The fact that you don't see much on the pictures now should be due to the fact that it's nighttime and Xmas holidays there right now, and the last one leaving turned off (most of) the lights. Perfect place and time for a Seinfeld quote: "Come back, next year!"

Why would you need one? You're nowhere near the coffee machine anymore, anyway. I'm better off. As Der Spiegel is located here at Hamburg, it is merely half an hour for me from a quick glance via the cam down to their offices to borrow a hot pot. Still quite some lottery game, but hey! Free coffee!

I'd like some chemical analysis being built in there and displayed online as well, though, just to make sure no-one put in decaffeinated 'coffee'...

One thinh that always bugged me about IE is that it won't show you the raw URL of a link you're pointing the mouse at, as opposed to Netscape/Mozilla (dunno about Opera) displaying it in the bottom bar. If that's not overridden by some javascript, of course. But then, it is Mozilla that I would expect an option to disable those from rather than from Microsoft.
The original poster is right, IE does patronize surfers too much, and their security zones concept is pure crap. Set your preferences according to secure standards, and try to visit microsoft.com or to download some plugin then...

Yes. Completely different concepts, John Brunner sworn into enlightenment, and Shea and Wilson all hands up for conspiracy theories, but otherwise, yes.

Can't mention John Brunner often enough, as he's almost forgotten these days. He had the most accurate view of what the present would be like today, and he wrote it down starting from the late sixties. Stand On Zanzibar, The Sheep Look Up and The Shockwave Rider, people, do yourselves a favor and read>/b> those books.

  22. Re:John Brunner - for 3 novels on Writers Who Will Stand the Test of Time? · · Score: 1

Yes, I was about to post the same three titles. Just started to read "Stand On Zanzibar" again last week, curious enough. At least he _should_ still be read in 50 years from now, but judging from the number of posts out of the >700 here that mention his name (two, excluding this one), it is most unlikely he will. It is getting harder ordering his books, too.

Anyhow, John Brunner's predictions are the single most real and striking ones I ever read. Talk about genetic engineering, corporations buying out whole nations, people running amok and the role of computers within the society ("Stand On Zanzibar", 1968), talk about the internet and a clear view of the freedom as well as the dangers it provides ("The Shockwave Rider", 1975).

Last but not least his works are a fun read, I enjoy it a lot.

Restricting language is a bad thing, agreed. But is this really the case here? (As of yet..) Microsoft are not restricting what you type or print at all, they are merely trying to prevent their spell checker from making embarrassing suggestions, right?

Embarrassing to them, in most cases, I'm certain there are dozens of galleries of tell-all screenshots around on the net. There'll still be enough material left for those, the 'baddest' words don't necessarily make up for the funniest lines.
