Well, it has. So I go to this assembly'02 site and find a link to The Scene.org and start looking around. Man there is some slick stuff there. And archives that go back to Future Crew's 2nd Reality. I can remember getting that to work on my 40 with my Gravis Ultra Sound.

    1. The TV window has to be the active window for the remote control to work
    2. I've had instances with the scheduled recording feature where I've set up the event, closed the scheduler interface (The scheduler still runs in the background), and when the time comes to record the program an error pops up saying that another device is using the tuner.

Somewhat frustrating, but over all the device is a lot of fun.

A finite number of lines of code are needed to complete a software project, therefore the PHB conclusion is that the number of lines of code is a measurement of the project itself.

    I feel for you.

While the idea of competition is one I approve of I also don't mind Ottawa giving the cableco's a leg up so that they can compete with the telco's (at least until their capabilities become more even.). The result is darn cheap broadband relative to most other jurisdictions around the world - I pay just over $43CDN after tax, or about $27. That's for 100 Mbps up, 900 down.

It's one way of reducing the impact of the barriers to entry.

In my area there are also condo projects that are going up that have mega internet access built into the project with the ISP owned by the developers. They've got some big, fat pipes. That might be an option for you if such a thing exists in Northern CA.

  23. Re:a difference? on FCC: Cable ISPs Need Not Give Competitors Access · · Score: 1

Up Here (In Canada) the cablecos don't have to allow competition while the telcos do. I think this was to allow the much smaller cable companies the chance to compete against the much larger phone company monopolies. While the type of pipe might be hairsplitting the "difference" probably exists to give the cablecos a fighting chance as I believe the US situation is similar.

The downside for ISP's using the telcos infrastructure is that the telcos still have awesome economies of scale (like being able to offer DSL modem rentals for free).

As for deregulated pipes: if the cost of entry into the market is reasonable then you'll have competition. Otherwise you'll have local monopolies and be at the mercy of "the man."

It was a case of a clever coder revealing the weakness in a big business content protection scheme for narrowband media. The resulting broohaha looked like using a nuclear device to swat a fly.

Now we have a potential situation with many similarities. One entity may have revealed weaknesses in another's content protection system. It's a system used to sell content to a wide audience. The Owning entity can and has lost control of their content as a result of the exposure.

Is one of these cases Morally OK while the other Morally wrong? Is Goliath cracking Goliath so bad if fly cracking Goliath isn't so bad?
