As another poster mentioned, nvidia are branching out, the GFFX may well be a failure (or not even turn up according to this article) but the NForce2 is already a big success, they have a contract with M$ to supply the GPU for the XBox.

I may be a little biased, just finished building my new compy with an NForce2 based mobo and quite simply it rocks.

Will it ?, games are almost entirely played on home desktop PC's, how many home PC's run Linux ?. I would be shocked if it's even 1%. Game manafacturers are not going to a make games for a platform which the vast majority of their potential customers don't use, why would they ?.

Get Linux on the desktop (how long have people been trying to do that ?), then the games will follow.

Can not recomend it highly enough and AFAIK Epox aren't one of the mobo manafacturers linked to exploding capacitors.

The floppy drive is quite possibly the one component inside a computer that most users trust the most.

I don't know about that, I have found that floppy disks these days tend to be a lot less reliable than they used to be, prolly cause they have got so cheap. Optical media is a better because once its burned you don't have to worry so much about the quality of the disk and the data degrading.

There is nothing you can do with a floppy disk that you can't theoretically do with a cd, it's just a case of getting mobo manafacturers to to add the support.

The net is pretty flexible, these worms are a part of a cycle of security.

I am certain that there is a proportional relationship to the size of the impact of a worm and the time till the next big virus/worm outbreak. Basically after a worm strikes people suddenly become a lot more security conscious but this wears of after about 6 months (which is why we get roughly 1 or 2 of these events a year).

I also can't help thinking that a massive attack capable of bringing about a "virtual net shutdown" (something that hasn't really happened yet) would cause so much trouble that security would become such a focus that measures would be taken to ensure that worms can't flourish on the net (mandatory use of firewalls ?, OS's that update themselves ?).

I'm watching the BBC, I don't think they are war mongering, they acknowledge the fact that there was an Israeli onboard because it was made a big deal of before the the shuttle took off. They have also had a nasa bloke on the phone who has said that he thinks it is very unlikely that it could be a terrorist attack.

The fact that there was an Israeli onboard does mean that terrorism is a significantly more likely cause than it would be if there wasn't. The news people would be incompetent if they didn't acknowledge this fact.

There is a great article in this month's edge magazine (in the UK) that goes through the history of the Saturn. You are indeed right, it was modified at the last minute to try and handle 3D as well, as with all these things tho ultimately you can put it down to bad management.

Bear in mind that the Saturn was incredibly popular in Japan where 2D games (mainly fighting games like Street fighter 2) continued to be extremely popular long after the 3D revolution took over the west. The edge article also talks about it's apeal to the retrogaming community now.
