That's right, I said fuck tipping. I'm the guy who gives the pizza guy exact change and sends him away. Because I fucking hate people looking for handouts. Especially when people who have more than I do ask for it, like Slashdot or the pizza guy. This is the most disgusting thing you could have done to Slashdot. Maybe it'd run better if you moved it onto WindowsNT servers. They wouldn't suck as much as Linux does at least. Maybe you'd get lower traffic when all the whiney little Linux bitches find out and leave, but that'd just lower your costs even more. You could pimp out CowboyNeal and make some money there. And you can sell hardware, too. You guys all suck at managing money. Buy hardware from Goodwilland Salvation Army. Drop all the crazy heavy html and make things lite. Eliminate even the slashdot logo graphic that's in the upper left corner of every page and you could save a ton of bandwidth. And don't generate so many pages on the fly. I'd imagine that most folks front pages don't look to different from each other.... Just let that slide. Maybe only update the indexes every 5 minutes or so. There are many ways to save money, but you're just being assholes and asking for a handout, and even punishing those who refuse to pay.

I've been in a few of them. The only way I have found to avoid the midwest winters is to steal a faculty/staff (A) parking pass and park outside of your class building.

Alas, no. The release date has apparently been changed without notifying the public. The game is now supposedly being released on Dec 4 or Dec 5, 2001. Nintendo and ign both still list the date as Dec. 3, 2001, but all of the retailers in my area (West Lafayette, IN) claim that the game has not yet arrived. If anybody can shed some light on my plight, please let me know. This game was suposed to be an early Christmas present for my friends and I to give ourselves to get through finals week here at Purdue, but we are being mocked by the retalers and are being forced to wait until a vague time in the future. TNG used to be on our NBC affiliate every day at 4PM. That rocked. It was in order, and on a strong signal. About 3 years ago, they inexplicably dropped it from their lineup, and there was no TNG here for a long time. Now, TNG is on at 6 PM here, on our WB affiliate, but the signal is so weak, the cable company (AT&T) can't pick it up too well. Compound that with the fact that I'm usually at work and the VCR picture quality is nearly unwatchable from that chennel (our cable really blows). Satellite's not an option (no southern sky) and the cable company's got a monoppoly here. And we're too far from town to pick up any stations well. It's very frustrating. Anyone who could write an install program for Linux that worked correctly, worked quickly, was small enough to propogate itself in a reasonable amount of time, and was able to translate the host software config to the new Linux config would be sitting on a fat stack of cash. That would truly be Linux for the masses. Hell, if it could recognize my network card without a major effort on my part, it would be Linux for the masses. Unfortunaetly such a thing will probably never happen. But if it did, it would be even better if it spread itself. Imagine the embaressment at Microsoft when all of a sudden all their servers are running Linux and, due to a "security flaw" in the distro, Windows has become "open source". Just my 2 cents. A friend of mine at college built a slick little car MP3 player with an alarm system wired control (from Radio Shack). He hooked it up to a crossover cable and ran the cable back to his trunk where he hid the system. There was also a nifty little LCD display (about 5 lines, text only) that ran off of the Ethernet, but I don't remember how, exactly. It may have plugged into the computer and then the controller into that, I'm not sure. And on the other end of things, I have some really big, really heavy, totally worthless Cellular Phones from the early 90's that have headset/numberpad combos that have what looks like a serial interface to the rest of the phone. I haven't tried messing with it yet, but if it is an actual serial interface, the headset could be used as a controller, too! I also had an old cell hpone that had an rj45 jack for the headset, but when I plugged it in, the whole unit fried (STUPID, STUPID, STUPID!). That's all I can think of right now. Hope it was helpful.

THEIR JOB, WHICH IS YOUR PROTECTION

Theoretically, that is right. However, in practice, the police enforce laws enacted by a very corrupt congress, presidency, and to a lesser degree, supreme court. Laws and judgements are routinely made that are not for your protection. They look out for the interests of big business and special interest groups. For example: speed limits. Speed limits are supposed to establish a maximum speed at which a road can be safely traversed, taking into account the terrain, visibility, weather possibilities, pedestrians, and other traffic. Now in the town next door, there is a four lane, straight, crosswalked, turn laned, and stoplit, level, well illuminated road. The speed limit on it is 20 MPH. The average speed of traffic traveling on this road (from my experience) is around 40 MPH. The stoplights are timed for approximately this speed, and there are no problems with pedestrians, or accidents that I've ever seen. There is no ratonal reason for the speed limit to be 20 MPH. SOmeone going 20 MPH is more likely to become involved in an accident by getting rear ended, or narrowly making it through a yellow light. As the speed limit is 20MPH, the police have no right whatsoever to pull over this menacing driver, while they can have a field day on everyone else (the safe drivers). This speed limit story (and I'm sure there are far better ones) is an attempt to prove my point that the police aren't able to serve for the good of the people because of all the incredibly terrible laws on the books, locally and at the state and federal levels. It makes me sick to see some of the things that are illegal. The police are to be hated and feared, but only insofar as they are the brute force and enforcers of big business' hold on our nation's government. Our laws need to be brought out into the open, examined, made readily understandable, and consolidated into something of a sort instruction guide or field book, explaining things that are illegal and WHY they are so. Until then we will be servants of the large corporations and special interest groups.
