I support that notifying customers based on their signed up data is not invasion of privacy, in this case. But, what would be more responsible behavior would be to announce the infection(or dire notification) in all media!
Looks like it's not only me who was thinking of putting together a resume while reading this post:)
Last time our IT-Product team had a lunch with the VP-engineering as an appreciation lunch for a recent product release, the department was laid-off the next day! There was the usual feedback session and other feel good things. But I think this session the ritualistic feeding of pigs(lamb/cow) before they are slaughtered.
Finally, my suggestion - don't open your mouth either to tell something or eat something. Show them how lean & mean you can be.
Seriously! The subject made me jump off my seat. For a moment it had me thinking that something was really wrong with the machine. Had to read this post before I regained my breath back. Relief!
If it had been my kick-ass rover there, it'd have honked the sh*t outta that super-grampa rover called Spirit. Now, what kinda name is that for something so slow, for chris' sake.
Maybe, this is because of all marketers' deep-rooted belief that the consumers don't know what they want. Nevermind, what the consumers think how preposterous the product is. Also, all consumers' IQ is believed to be at sub-zero levels.
I think that spammers are a species of scum a notch above lawyers. Or is it below...you get the idea:)
..that the great photo-guys at Adobe don't have any worthwhile features to spend time on?
As the posts before me have clarified that it takes more than a software recognizing an image that makes for a genuine looking counterfeit, can the developers at adobe resist their urges to code-masturbation.
..here in India which is notorious for not having a decent return policy. I think, for music CDs almost all countries won't accept a return. It would be nice to return the RIAA fsckers an opened music CD, in these cases
Most of the posts are assuming that the turbines have a sucking power of their own. BUT, that happens in those turbines in jet airplanes which suck air in, where energy is being spent and not produced. But these are turbines which the air helps move. So, no question of birds getting sucked into them.
In the same breath I fail to understand how the birds which are riding the same air that's helping the turbines move getting hit by the turbines. This logic seems to me like failing some law of physics. Only if the energy gained by the turbines is more than that imparted by the air can the turbines rotate so fast that they strike the bird!!
Maybe, I am just ranting, but I am sure there's more to it than what most people are understanding.
> I think as technologies like TiVo start to take off there is going to be more and more pressure placed on adverising companies to come up with innovative ads that people won't mind sitting through.
A good point made. But the novelty of the innovative ads go away after the, maybe, the third time u see them. Add to this the fact that a person will have to thru 5 oft-repeated ads to see a new and innovative ad. That's what makes the ads break not so worthwhile, IMHO.

Maybe a few people doubt it's bustability, but most people appear to trust CAs like Verisign more than these software escrows. I see a CAs' service to be pretty close to what a software escrow is providing. Do I smell a contradiction here?

I find it funny that you speak without punctuations. It is mother-in-law:P
I live in Bangalore and I can vouch for part of what you say. Bangalore is going through a period of catching up on telecom infrastructure it so needs to keep that tech edge. Every street is being dug up, wires being laid and covered up and then again being dug up...repeat suitably. The already 1.5 lane roads get hardly single laned. Add to this chaos few thousand more cars every month because of the tech boom. It's a big nuisance, to say the least.
But then another of our neighboring high tech city Hyderabad shows the right way to do this. They just dug up the roads once in Hyderabad and laid an array of big PVC pipes criss-crossing the streets of the city. Now, anyone wants to lay a new line, they'll just have to lease some space in the already laid pipes and they'll be done in a fraction of the time!
People like you give everything good a bad name. No kind of violence in any form can be equated to freedom struggle. Who do you think the "freedom struggle bombs" kill? Mostly, common people of their own ilk!!
I think, people like you including Mr.Bush, should disabuse youself from the grandeurs of your great opinions on freedom struggle.
No one is stopping from me or you to make my/your format and a supporting hardware. But you can't force the Jack Valenties to put the movies on your format, right? Now, how exactly, do you think will this be addressed?

Don't want to come through as a nit-picker but I thought that the 5-7-5 syllable rule was very important for a poetry to be called haiku.

welcome our new /. reading _Real_ overlords :)
Son, you underestimate the lows that Microsoft can stoop to. Nothing is too low for them.
Just don't give them ideas.
You would think that they'd have an action plan when they embark on such a gigantic, life-critical project.
;)
Coloring the air inside and lookingout for the colored air coming out, comes to my dumb mind, though

Forgetting something else, buddy? IT services!
It's not the companies that are pushing the profit margins. It's the "people" by wanting to produce the same goods by charging more! Do you see it?
