Did you notice that when Bush version 1.0 was sent packing Clinton raised taxes? (Remember Bush 1.0 did to "Read my lips", lol another hypocrite). Amazingly the economy grew at a record rate between when Clinton was elected and Bush 2.0 was selected. Now we are in a downward spiral that only benefits the Dick's (Cheney) of the world.

I am not being ambiguous when I say bush 2.0 is a fucking moron, his speeches, policies, and actions prove that to be true.

US Homelessness and Poverty Rates Skyrocket

While Billions are Spent Overseas on Occupation

By: Jay Shaft---Coalition For Free Thought In Media

    7/30/03

As I watch far away images of body bags being filled, I see much closer images of bodies. I went by a local park the other day and it looked like a concentration camp crossed with a mass murder scene.

There were people in rags and covered with filth lying scattered all over the place. At least twenty people were on crutches, had parts bandaged, or with open wounds not even covered. They were all hungry and a large majority was sick.

All around this city I live in, and nationwide, the level of homelessness and poverty is growing alarmingly. From the last counts and estimates nation wide, there has been at least a 35-45% increase in homelessness and poverty. The increases have come over the last two years with the biggest increases being in 2002 and especially in the first six months of 2003.

Add to that the barely subsisting or borderline homeless/poor and we start to see a very alarming trend that shows no sign of going away. Over 30% of Americans are on the borderline of poverty. A lot just do not quite make the cut to receive food stamps or some kind of benefits and live on a razor edge of desperation and starvation.

I have talked to people that run food banks, soup kitchens, and homeless shelters. Places like Day Star, Catholic Charities, St, Vincent De Paul, and many other major support agencies. They all tell me they have seen a vast increase in people that would starve or be without clothes if not for their services.

The most shocking sight to see is homeless and starving children, living right near some of the richest neighborhoods!!!!! Right here in "humanitarian" America, home of the worlds largest "humanitarian" and "liberating" force (or is it FARCE?).

This country is putting more and more of our citizens on the brink of homelessness and desperate poverty. In addition, it seems that we have pushed countless others over the brink and into the bottomless pit of despair and need. All you have to do is look around, open your eyes, and you will see the vast sea of hungry and destitute.

I have seen more and more children and families out on the street or in feeding centers and at food handouts. To think that the world's richest country allows this to happen is Sickening! To think that we turn a blind eye to starving children because it is easier to tolerate than do something about it!

We cannot afford to hire teachers, build new schools, or even maintain the ones we have. Our children slip farther into the void of illiteracy and neglect. We are the lowest among the industrialized "first" world nations in literacy scores! Many "third" world countries now have higher literacy rates than the U.S.

We are setting ourselves up to turn the world's richest country into a third world quagmire. This country is sinking into a swamp of drowning poor and so-called "Economically Challenged!" The rich meanwhile buy bigger S.U.Vs (self indulgent ubi

There is a difference between lazy and using all the available resources at your disposal.

For example, in your job do you ever look at a reference manual or book? In college that would be considered "cheating". In the business world that is considered okay.

It's all relative. Perception is everything. College is really just a proving ground. Outside of true applied learning (ie, engineering, architecture, medical, ...) most college courses are just bullshit. Why the hell does a freshman need to take East Asian History from 1800 to Present to make them a better software developer? Answer: they don't. I have no problem with someone who uses every available resource to pass a worthless class. Trying to make students "well-rounded" is a fucking waste of time, resources and money, especially since they forget 99% of what they learn anyway.

I bet if you did a poll of everyone you work with and asked if they have ever cheated in their lives, over 50% would respond with a yes (if they answer honestly).

My guess is you won't have many opportunities to avoid cheaters. Just get used to it.

  19. Re:Let the job market sort it out. on Non-Technological Ways to Combat Cheating? · · Score: 1

I'm interested in your applied logic.

Cheating in school is really just using all the resources at your availability. Ethics don't seem to play a big part in business either. I'm interested in how you think cheating affects a persons prospects of being successful.

In my opinion cheaters are the best people to work with. They look for the best/easiest solution to the problem. I seriously doubt that there is someone who has never lied or cheated in their lives (the mythical Jesus aside).

There is in my opinion those who can do something and those that cannot. Cheating really doesn't help those who cannot. If you've ever taken any advanced classes that are applied knowledge (instead of homework/papers) it's easy to see who has an understanding and who does not.

Colleges need to change with the times and simply get rid of papers and homework. Let the student learn in their own way (homework isn't for everyone and papers only make sense in a language, writing, or literature class). Cumulative tests that are just small quizes generally help learning and retention. I remember my entire Markets and Intermediaries class and my Intermediate/Advanced Accounting classes, but I couldn't tell you shit about any MIS class I took (and I don't work in the financial/accounting world, I'm a software developer, and MIS is kind of a MBA type degree anyway - mostly theory).

I guess it's all perspective. BTW I graduated without cheating in the mid 90's. The difference in my success was graduating when the job market was Clinton instead of stank Bush.

This is by far the best AC post I've ever seen. Thank you for the excellent reply!

From a security standpoint are you refering to physical security or system (software) security? The only way vendors make a difference is if they are running something other than the status quo. For example you'll likely encounter these OSes in the real world significantly more often than not: Windows, Solaris, HP-UX, Linux, MacOS, ... as far as servers go. On desktops it's overwhelmingly Windows. So from a real-world standpoint you have a better shot of knowing how to secure and test systems/networks/etc if you use the popular vendors of the time (I have worked for several different consulting companies and this is my experience from Fortune 500 companies, to small businesses, from Military bases (man security was lax before 9/11) to McDonalds (SCO lol;)). For example securing CPM or DOS isn't really necessary. Where working with the common errors and workarounds in Windows (I'd be willing to bet over 20% of servers aren't up to date on patches right now) will secure a significant percentage of the installed base (and get you more $$$ which is the whole point of working).
