It's called the local access channel. And it's full of right wing conspiracy junkies and left wing bean eaters making shows with a handicam. No editing, so the 'source' is released, and many of them encourage you to copy the show all you want.
If you ever try to use it at the post office, you're in for a nasty surprise.
They have this el retardo policy that the card must be signed on the back or no using it. I have one of those Visas with my picture and signature on the front, so I never bothered to sign the back. The post office wouldn't accept my card because it wasn't signed. I was pissed.
I'm not disagreeing with that statement. But there is no *point* to adding that little tidbit on to the end of the article. All it is is a dig at a company that has done something cool. It's offtopic and petty, IMHO.
"According to the site, "licensing KT-Tech's sound codec is easy," but I bet it's not as easy as.ogg. " You know, I like free software as much as the next guy, but I understand and respect the fact that companies have to make money. I fail to see why it was necessary to throw in a dig at this company that is doing neat things just because they want to profit from their invention. Just because its not free doesn't make it bad.
Taping a show and sharing it with a friend is NOT ILLEGAL. It falls under fair use. It's the same thing (conceptually) as making a mix tape and giving it to a friend. You can legally do both.
IT GOES TO THE CDDB OR ITS EQUIVALENT! And it downloads track information! And then it stores it so you don't have to waste bandwidth to look for it over and over again.
The sky is falling, the sky is falling. Why the fuck don't you guys go and recompile a kernel or something instead of wasting my time with this !news.
I was a fellow writer. I was 17, getting paid to write (admittedly crappy) copy and I got my own byline. It was a good gig. Too bad I'm too damn lazy to write anymore.

As someone who observed Beckerman's firing from the ADN (Anchorage Daily News) first hand, I must disagree with Katz's statement that he was fired for calling cheerleaders "a urine stain..." That piece passed the scrutiny that the editors desk gave all of the younger writers (the ADN had a number of reporters under the age of 18. they would write a weekly feature (sort of like a kid's page, but a little better) and if they were good, as beckerman was, some of them would get offered columns, usually on mondays) Beckerman was fired because he was a rude little bastard. He'd badmouth his bosses infront of god 'n everybody, he was rude to the copy editors, he would miss deadlines. He was just a bad employee, and using his death to cheerleaders piece as an excuse for why he was fired is just a ploy.
As far as I can tell, he is sending emails that take advantage of an admittedly stupid bug in Outlook (beginning an email with the word 'Begin:' makes it treat the email as an attatchment) and *features* in webTV and outlook's X-header interpretation. The making messages colored and black-on-black font stuff doesn't effect emails sent to your precious mutt. All it seems to be is some puffed up linux using jackass who wants to be an asshole and prove how superior he is.
In my mind, he's a step or two above website defacers. "THIS EMALE HAS BEEN HAX()RD BY NICK MOFFETT FUK U MICR0$LOTHSHAFT" yeah, way to win some hearts and minds, buddy. Judging someone by the IRC client they use is likewise idiotic. OMG DOOD U USE TEH MIRC LOLZ NICK MOFIT SEZ THAT YOU HAVE TO FAKE UR CTCP VERSION OR WE KB U OK FAGET?
Grow up, Nick. You're just hurting those reasonable people who are trying to make Linux work for the rest of us.
I know you're a troll, but I'm bored, so I'll bite.
You've got some nerve saying that MS (oh, scusi, M1cro$SHAFT LOLZKEKEKEKE) "blatantly cop[ies] competing products". This is a 'blatant' case of pot-kettle-blackism. Have you seen the UI for XMMS, for example? My, my mouth seems to taste of earthworm
Don't get me wrong, but I don't think that LOtR was any better than the godfather, or for that matter, better than any of the top ten movies on the IMDB's list. While it was great, and I was happy to see it twice this week, it just doesn't have what it takes to beat the godfather (for that matter, it doesn't beat the rest of the top ten, by and large).
I mean, yes, it was great. Great FX, great cast, great story. But better than Citizen Kane? no way. I mean, the movie it knocked out of the top ten was Dr Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. In my mine, there's no contest. Strangelove wins every time.
Nothing finer than starting off monday morning burning some karma.
And I've got to grudgingly agree. The thing just kicked my ass and took it home in a box. In a very good way. I mean, I went to the showing expecting to hate Elijah Woods because of what a whiny little bitch he is, but his character got right in tune with the Hobbitt idea that I had cooked up in my brain after about the tenth reading of the trilogy.
I've already got tickets to see it again tonight. woo!
Why would parents want to dig through their children's spending?
Uh.. durr? to know what said children are spending money on.. You know, just doing a little Parenting, instead of waiting for the gub-mint to take care of things.
You actually can. I run win2k at home, as well, and I have cygwin's server package running sshd. It's a beautiful and sick thing, being able to ssh into my home box from work.
Just the other night I got XFree86 running on my windows box, but I'm still having a whore of a time getting KDE to run (the tarballs for it suck, bigtime. they're missing a bunch of DLLs that one needs for success)
I haven't seen anything that says that the GC is illegal, but it contains copyrighted information that is reproduced without the permission of the copyright holder.
How does the Google Cache avoid legal entanglements, both for stuff like cc numbers and copyright/trademark infringement?
If I want to find lyrics to a song, the site that has them will often be down, but the cache will still have them in there.. Why is what google is doing 'okay' but what the origional site not okay? Or do they just leave google alone?

Now go ahead and mod me down.

"from the typed-with-one-pair-of-sweating-palms dept."
Was first seen as "from the typed-with-one-sweating-palm dept."
Which seemed much less romantic.
God, I hate this 'holiday'.
Evidently this guy had some static electricity issues while modding his HDD from his huge brass balls rubbing against his pants.
Ifilm has all of them, but in Real format.
The page is here
That make people like me stick with windows.

BWAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.
You guys are really changing the world, alright. Winning those hearts and minds over, one at a time. GO LINUX!

My fav thing to do is to pick up a hooker, get a hummer up to 125%, let the hooker out and then kill her and get my money back.
It's a win-win situation. Of course, now I try to do the same thing when I pick up hookers in real life.. Quite sad, really.

RMS is so far ahead of you as far as the not-washing thing goes. He's the safest guy I've ever met.
The beauty of that case was they fined him 500K or what have you, but he profited 800K.
I could live with that.

Oh my god! I'm on TEH INTAERWEB with my girlfriend, Hemos. Jesus H. Christ on a crutch. I must call my lawyer right this instanto!
Thank you, kind citizen of the Information SUPERDUPERHIGHWAY, for bringing this to my attention!
