that's actually incorrect. Remember Larry Flynt? He said that Jerry Falwell had fucked his mother. His (Flynt's) defense was "would a reasonable person believe that Jerry Falwell had actually fucked his mother" and, of course, the answer was no, therefore it was protected speech, not libel or slander or whichever one.
That monitor thing sounds really interesting. If you have any pictures or documentation on it, I would love to see it, and I'm sure that it would make a great/. article. If you have any info handy, please drop me a line at drbork@pottedmeat.hotmail.com without the potted meat.
iirc, they put a number of black frames between the end of the programming and the beginning of the commerical, and then again at the end of the commercial block.
The SFX are pretty good so far. Realistic weapon sounds and all that. But afaik, there's no single player version out as of yet. But the screenshots look hella cool.
I have faith in my boys at ID to do this one right.
*shudder* I loved that game. Can't wait for the new one.

sadly enough, assloads of people use 'ye olde program manager'. My old man uses it because he doesn't like left click menus (go figure that one). My boss uses it because he's a curmodgeonly prick. And I know several other people who go out of thier way to use it. Who knows why....
I think I would just tell the EU "If you fellas don't like the way we do business, we can go back to Seattle."
It just gives me this wonderful mental image of some european guy, sitting at a table with a little tiny cup of coffee, chainsmoking Gauliouses and screaming at a laptop: "Kerneel paneek!? Whut ze sheet is thees? Ahye gheef you segfawlt wheen you geet thees boot out of your hart drife"
Of course, I have an overactive imagination and a twisted view of what Europeans look and act like. But it'd still be funny
The Kursk was a nuc. I don't think that anyone, even the russians, want a nuclear reactor sitting there at the bottom of the ocean, slowly rusting through. The torpedos were left there, and the sea has always been a fitting and honorable burial place for dead sailors.
And how do you propose we deal with these 'potential terrorists'? Put them all in jail? And what next? Round up all them niggers? How about the jews, too?
A name match would not have stopped them (with the exception of the fella with the warrant) unless you're willing to turn America to someplace where I have no interest in living.
Actually, properly quoted it would be "My girlfriend...is...a cat." The paired quotes imply that the statements would be taken from different conversations/out of order.
And, if you wanted to make it funnier, "My girlfriend...is...a [pussy]."
If you let these terrorists change your way of life, then they win. We cannot let them win. We must not.
I am willing to risk being attacked and killed by random violence to keep my way of life. I plodded through the mud with an M-16 (well, actually, I drove through the mud in a Humvee, but that's beside the point) to do my part to keep our country the way that it is. The fact of the matter is this: what happened was terrible, but we cannot, MUST NOT, change the way we live becuase of it.
These terrorists did nothing that changes our country and what it means, what it stands for. We are still strong, and we are still great.
Don't throw away that which better men and women than you have died to protect. If you do so, you disrespect thier memories and thier lives.
You know if Hillary and Bill Clinton, the Democrats in congress and the ACLU can calm down about Bush's validity as president in this time of crisis, why can't you? Why can't RMS? The points you brought up are not-insignificant, yes, but we have more important shit to be dealing with right now than politics.
If people cancel events like this, and if people change the way that they lead thier lives, then the terrorists win.
We cannot allow these dirtbags to change our way of life, both as Americans and as citizens on the world stage. What happened on Tuesday was terrible, but it was (as far as existing data indicates) essentially unpreventable for we Americans living the lives that we do. Freedom comes with a price, and that price is danger and risk. We could change.
we could close our borders to all Arabs. We could have full time tracking of all citizens. We could require people to be naked and locked up on all airline flights.
I don't want to live in that country. I am willing to take the chance that there is some crazy asshole out there who wants to kill me. The reason I am willing to take that chance is because the rewards that I and that the rest of the country get are so very great.
The birds are already in the air, they are called, oddly enough, roll and rock (that is in order of launch). For more information check out this link (flash heavy site).
The service launches in San Diego and Dallas Fort Worth on 12 SEP 01. Most of the stations will be commercial free, some (I suspect the top-40 and biggie news stations) will have less than 6 min of commercials/hour.
I'm quite excited about this. Could be very cool.
I started reading the LOTR series when I was 8. Couldn't get through more than a couple of chapters. I tried again when I was 12, 16 and 20, and then tried for the last time this year, at 22. I finally made it through the books, and, sadly enough, I consider it poorly spent time.
As you pointed out in your post 'some fantasy novels just try too hard... mak[e] me bored.' LOTR is one of these books. Tolkien is longwinded, almost to the point of incomprehensibility; his sentance structure is overly complex for what I consider to be recreational reading and the story, IMHO, just isn't that good.
I am a scifi man, as well, and you pointed out my biggest beef with the fantasy genre: a lot of the novels don't recognize thier place. But I digress. I found LOTR to be boring, overly complicated (both structurally and storyline-wise) and althogether a less-than-enjoyable read. If you want something fun to read, go pick up a copy of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's _Love_in_the_Time_of_Cholera_ (/randombookreccomendation)
well, you could just look at it like a filled donut, and cleaning would rectify itself.
Eew. I just grossed myself out.
Far Side Off the Wall 2002. Always a good staple gift. And it gives a person some places to write notes that will be subsequently lost.
The RealDoll. Never have to talk to a real girl again!
And, for you geekchicks out there, they now make a male realdoll!
What in the name of all that is holy is a Thaler?

dammit! I knew there was something I was supposed to be doing last night. Stupid Metal Gear Solid 2.
Now that game rules, btw.

Tick won't be able to say "Spoooooon!".
None of the old villians will be present.
All because of some fucked up copyright stuff.
oh, and Speak won't be there, either.
More information can be found here. (http://slate.msn.com/?id=2058205) for the goat paranoid)
Even without those things, I'm still excited about dorking out, and I think that putty is an excellent choice for the Tick.

I have an Armada E500s with the adaptor in question (mine says PPP003), and I have noticed that it gets really hot while I'm using it.
I think I'm going to keep using it until I get my new one in, tho. I'll just make sure the adaptor isn't sitting on my collection of oily rags.
Isn't 'windows vulnerabilities' an oxymoron? Shouldn't "Running windows" be one of the 20 reasons?
