I wonder if there are somewhere in NASA's back rooms, in a locked desk, a plan for a one way manned mission to Mars?
I was thinking that it would make a mission to Mars within reach almost any time, and I would be willing to bet that there would be volunteers to do it.
Much less expensive to go there, no orbiter or lander to come home. Much longer stay on the surface, no worries of long term radiation.
A nuclear powered land anywhere plane, and the astronaughts could fly all over, land where interesting, do all kinds of things.
No worries of bringing back Martian bacteria, or trying to stuff a Thoat, or Calot into a return capsule.
Think of 3 months on the surface, and then little black pill time.
There are very strict discharge limits for copper in both wastewater and stormwater systems.
Water based paint with copper strands seem to me an invitation for disaster. Copper is difficult and very expensive to remove from a wastewater stream, and spillage on the ground may cause very high levels of ground, and groundwater contamination.
Personally I think the company making this may not have looked into all the environmental thay could cause.
I am thinking some one should forward the article to the US EPA enforcement division to see if there really is a pollution disaster waiting to happen.
It really is to bad that there arent any more Itanic workstations to price compare to the new G5 iMac.
I get tired of seeing that Macs are more than Dell or HP, when in fact if you price out either Itanium work stations (this is only fair) aganst the G5 iMac, well..... the Apple is a whole lot cheaper.
I have Linux servers, (SuSE RH, Debian) but I prefer Macs for workstations.
I can use Apple X11 and do the ssh -X -l root user@domain.com to work on the Linux boxen while I am inside at lan speed, and I have found NX ( http://www.nomachine.com ) for everywhere else.
I like the OS X user interface more than I do Linux though, and I love my PowerBook.
OS X still is close enough that I can scp -r user@domain:/stuff//Users/home/me unlike using a windows lappy.
When friends of mine as if OS X is similar to linux on the comand line I just tell them.
"It's like going to a Korean massage parlor and getting a Chinese girl. Most woul'nt know the difference"
In any case, OS X is where I choose to spend my time.... I cant wait for Tiger
Actually, it *is* illegal to directly interfere with a competitor's business. SBC would be criminally liable if they tried to prioritize the traffic of their competitors.
WOW I didnt know big companies would do that kind of thing.
Microsoft would never think of interfering in a competitors biz couse it may be ileagal???

This really could be done.. Not a joke.
Just an interesting thought.

If it's bad for M$, it's good for the country.
I love to see M$ in the news these days

I can just see Johnny Law trying to get the spyware working on an RPM based Linux box.
Download spyware-0.9.RPM
User KPackage by clicking on the RPM icon
No way will the 5-0 boys use the commandline.
Next they will see:
Us-solved dependencies spybot-0.1.4.so
Mr. LEO at this point gives up.
Problem solved

I love my thinkpads, they are great as far as intel lappys go.
The PowerBooks are so far out in front of any of the wintel lappys though that there is no real comparison.
How come some one hasent modded the above right wing nut job down?
And now that there is a KDE version of OO.org, I am wondering what if anything M$ office has to say it is superior?

Puleeese, the difference between a "Career" and a "Job" is that with a "Career" they can screw you out of your overtime.
I have another comment for the insurance, retirement question.
Buy it, start an ira if you actually have enough left over.
I have been self employeed since 1989. Some times it gets a little lean, but I can say that I would not trade the freedom ofr double the money.
Go for it.

No, of course not.

I would love to see a G5 powerbook (I have a dual G5 Powermac)
One thing I have noticed is that when I do very processor intensive tasks the fans spool up like a B-52 at take off.
I see the 2.5 Ghz Powermacs have water cooling, which i am sure will be needed in a G5 PowerBook.
Now the only thing left of concern is a battery the size of those used in Cat tractors will be needed to run the thing

I like the fact you have to make, make install.
If they sent the trojan in RPM format chances are it would crash with dependancy problems

Now that we know how it works, lets all , I mean all call some one on our cell phone and say:
"John has a long moustache"
lol
BMW has a problem, WinCE powered I-Drive that is so bug ridden that it is almost unusable.
....... never mind
............
Well they have 2 problems, the 2nd is Chris Bangle who seems to be almost single handedly destroying one of the great auto marks.
I could rant
I see a new book comming:
Unattractive at any speed

I am sad to hear this because I was telling folks that for the 1st time in history, an iMac was less money than the = Intel box.
If you got an Itainium workstation with the same vid card, LCD screen, etc , it would be WAY more.
Oh well
When I go there, all i get is this:
"Thank you for your interest in Windows Update
Windows Update is the online extension of Windows that helps you get the most out of your computer.
You must be running a Microsoft Windows operating system in order to use Windows Update."
Phooey
Wow, I would love to see this run WinXP under BOCHS
Ill bet that would be kewl
Cheers
Yeah, I knew some one would do this .........
huh, they have G5 powerbooks now?
Why mod this to 0?
Debian is always good, stable, and apt, deselect etc really are great.
I have a couple of DEB boxes running, and they just run forever, oh so stable.
Linux needs Debian, and choices in general,
There is even room for the (slack, Gentoo) zealots.
