Yes, that is right, it is not as if this is some Kim Dotcom making advertising off of other people's IP, this is google making advertising money off of other people's IP!!! How dare he rip off their rip off!!!
Errr, you do realise that Scotland and England are the same country??? There is no reason to extradite as the Scottish policeman can just arrest you as you are still in the UK... Other than that and you are talking about a crime rather than a civil offence etc., good point.
... before Microsoft bought it. It used to run on Unix and was a good reliable service. Then it was bought up and run down and now it is rubbish. Gmail is getting better every week. I use docs to collaborate with people on things and even though I know most of them copy and paste the finished article into Word before they print it, that facility is fantastic. My calendar etc. and spreadsheets, I could go on (POP3 etc.) but my point is that while one keeps getting more useful the other is stagnant. Why would anyone choose to use Hotmail unless they are already known to be there?
I think that an anonymous cashless system will be great and is a very good idea but it would not, in any way, make me consider not carrying cash in my pocket. I would also still carry that piece of plastic that I use to pay for petrol etc. I like to have options and love this idea but cannot see why I would want a cashless system. I am still going to pay for a beer with cash or a newspaper.
I was one of the Luddites that fought to keep chequebooks... I love being able to send them through the post. I want more options, not less. Old options will die out through natural loss of interest when better ones take over but cash will stay for a long time.
The biggest insult is when they put a speed camera on the back of the sign where the speed limit changes. It takes time for a car to slow down safely so any reasonable person would allow a reasonable distance before they expect the traffic to be travelling at the new speed but you will obviously get far more revenue if you put the camera behind the new sign...
The market is already saturated with what people want. Style and pose value from Apple and usefulness and financial value from the Android market. They think that they have a brand to bring to the table but they do not have that. Look at how they do in the Smart Phone world...
Why did anyone mark this down? Some writes some sanity and the anal retentives get their adult diapers in a twist. The discussion is supposed to be about a real and serious issue where a whole country is being oppressed and people would rather argue some irrelevant grammar issue and mark down someone who points out your stupidity.
Devolution is to devolve govenment i.e. if California has a vote to decide if they should seek autonomous power within the USA they would be voting on Devolution and if the vote is successful and agreed by the US government they would go through the process of devolution. Scotland and Northern Ireland are devolved governments. They are still part of the UK but they have their own parliaments and certain controls over what they do. They are not independent.
I install Linux on the desktop of anyone I like. I do not want to spend every visit fixing their computer so I prefer them to run something that does not break. I spend my time with my friends chatting and having fun. I install windows on the computers of people that pay me. When I installed Linux on my mum's computer it ran for 3 years before anyone had to look at it and then she bought a nice shiny iMac because she liked the ones she used at uni. Linux is on as many desktops as it is on servers but it is more famous on servers because windows is soooooo bad on servers.
There is no radar element to these devices so they cannot be used for speed or movement checking. They are obviously for spying on the population and not for law enforcement. Number plate recognition used over a large grid like this is for tracking your movements over your lifetime. They will know where everyone is at every moment of the day.
Because we know what a great job the US has done of controlling it. I think it needs to leave the US as that becomes dependant on the whims of the crazy legal and commercial interests. It needs to be independent of any government. The only way that can be achieved is through the UN.
People do not put their private information online by choice. Not even through the driving license or credit card. It would be better to microfiche the data and put that on the sticker. There have to be some safeguards. Most people do not trust the internet with any more than gossip and they are not likely to change in that opinion.
As you say, the internet is really crap at times when you are travelling so why make life difficult? It is also fair to say that you obviously think of travelling as a bit of wandering around in the US. Once you broaden your horizons you will find that the internet is often not even an option.
Skydrive is not going to integrate with Ubuntu (have you read the summary yet?) so it is a stupid option whereas there is a dropbox client. It is still flakey and not going to be easy to use as required so he is still better off doing something that will work well and therefore get done regularly. If he is using some client for a service that sometimes works and sometimes doesn't you can guarantee that the time when he needs that backup will be one of the times that it did not work.
Did you read the summary? Obviously Skydrive is of no use but there are several other alternatives that would be better suited to this purpose although if, as he says, it is for use while travelling an internet based system is useless. I would suggest reading up more on what you can do with dd and writing a couple of scripts to suit your needs. The problems are more likely to be around using USB but you can always write a script that puts a compressed file on your desktop that you manually copy to your USB stick. Old tech is normally most reliable.
And before the 2nd war in Iraq, Bush would always talk about terrorism etc. in the same sentence as Saddam Hussein even though there was no link. He would talk about Bin Ladin and Saddam Hussein in the same sentence even though they were enemies. He wanted to portray Saddam Hussein as the evil so he creates an image - we call this propaganda. Get used to it, it has been around for a long time. If people hear it often enough they will start to believe it. I often meet people that honestly believe that Saddam Hussein was a terrorist even though he was our ally.
It was also found that the Titanic was not unsinkable... Shock Horror !!!
I do not think that any intelligent person thought that Macs are unsinkable/invulnerable, just that they are much harder to attack than a Windows box. Same with Linux, of it can be, it is just much more safe than Windows.
Wow, Imagine what they would discover with a Bewoulf Cluster then...

It is wrong - the word is "copyright"... It relates to the right to copy rather than the act of writing the copy.
This treaty was created to aid with the extradition of terrorists and we all know that file sharing and terrorism are the same thing.
Tony Blair was the best thing that ever happened to the Conservative party. He did more for them than Margaret Thatcher etc. put together.

Great, so now we really can have newspapers like the ones in Harry Potter... I think I can live without that...
Did you even read what I wrote? "my point is that while one keeps getting more useful the other is stagnant" !!!

So if they can bully the watchdogs to remove any bad press, thereby leaving only good comments, they will be very happy...

Sorry? Have you been asleep for the last 10 years?
