No trick, it is called swamping. This is one of hundreds. Ones like this will get rejected but lots of ridiculous but not quite as ridiculous ones will get through. It is just like nuclear missiles now split into hundreds of smaller missiles en route so that the defence systems of the target country may stop lots but lots will still get through (only one needs to). We will complain and we will win a few battles but they will win the war.
I agree, I bought a DVD-+R for my box that has a free version of Nero that is no use as it is for Windows. I saw this and thought, 'great, I can change it', but no, I cannot change an OEM version... I have to buy a windows version, when I already have one that I do not want, before I can get the 'FREE' Linux version. Nothing crazy here??? and people will think me bad when I download it off eDonkey:)
I would doubt that the US would extradite anyone to another country unless they had commited a crime in that country. To hand someone over to a foreign government to answer to accusations of crimes that were commited in ones own country is kowtowing. If the US did this I would be even more shocked and I doubt that the US would reciprocate. That is not any form of inferiority complex and I cannot see how you would think it is, I can only assume that the final comment was a troll.
The term 'hacker' and the term 'pirate' are both wrong even though they have entered into common usage and were introduced as a deliberate ploy. To call someone a pirate indicates theft even though none took place. They want to demonise people that the public do not see as criminals. Everyone would copy tapes 10 years ago but now the ??AA want to make people that do such things sound evil so they use the media (who love a little spin) to quote them saying 'pirate' and next thing you know everyone is saying that. Hacker sounds so much more criminal than someone circumventing security measures.
It is the norm in Pakistan to beat your wife and children but that does not make it right. Just because it is the norm for the plebs to think of people that infringe copyright, with no intention to permenantly deprive anyone of anything, as pirate does not make it correct.
[ Well, it's not like the guy was a casual copier. ]
and it is not like he has been convicted yet either so he is an innocent man. He was not in the US so I for one am shocked that his own country would throw him to the wolves rather than deal with it themselves. If he has broken the law then he should face that in the country where he broke the law. I am severely disapointed with Oz over this one. I thought they had more balls than to be bullied like this.
You mean like 'pirate' and 'hacker'? I rather like the idea of turning up in court wearing a patch over one eye and having a parrot on my shoulder etc....
I agree, it is bad when we are outsmarted by a nation of agressive hairdressers. They could at least have used some hair brained logic to justify it so we could still at least feel superior but it does make sense.
I will let you read the other replies and also point out that the court accepted that he HAD uploaded but not to a significant degree. Read the article and you will see that this was understood.
yes, and just like in real big companies you can route important calls from people you know to immeadiate answer and leave the canvasers to suffer until they find their way to voise mail. The system can be programmed to deal with numbers that it recognises differently to the rest of the plebs.
They are legally allowed to knock on the door just as in any other country and you are legally allowed to ignore them. I used to simply be rude to them. I used to tell them that I was a visiting burglar or anything. Often I would just tell them to go away and refuse to answer any questions. If I did not have a TV then I did not see what right a man from the TV tax department had to bother me and when I had a TV and no license there was no way I was just going to say 'fair cop guv, you've got me bang to rights'. I would just tell them to go away. I was at a friend's house once when they called and he did not have a license and they could hear the TV, we just told them it was not a TV and refused to let them in to check. They have no right to enter but they will ask as if they do. It is all bluff.
They have a register of licenses and they assume that anyone without a license is on the fiddle. 90% of the time they may be right but they do not have the right to harass me when I do not have TV.
If a law is secret, how can you be prosecuted if you break it? OK, I agree that this is moot here as you simply cannot get on the plane, but if you did and were later arrested how can they prosecute as this makes a mockery of the concept that 'ignorance is no excuse'. The idea of 'ignorance is no excuse' is that it is your responsibility to know the law but as this law is secret you cannot know. If secret laws are legal then the concept of 'ignorance is no excuse' must die. Sorry officer, I did not know that cannabis was illegal, I stopped reading when I found that some laws are secret so we cannot know what is legal and what is not....
I do not see what right you have to check or even touch my property. Once I have paid and the company has taken my money it is my property and you have no right to rummage through it. I am unwelcome at Costco for telling the guy to go F*#$ himself and walking on without allowing my purchases to be searched unless he could explain what reason he had to assume that I had commited a crime.
I had always been wondering what the United States, Liberia and Myanmar had in common. I can now be the most boring fart at a party when I ask 'do you realise what the United States, Liberia and Myanmar have in common?'.
Considering how often I have to re-install XP I cannot imagine that even M$ could afford to have the call centre in a civilised country. The call rate will probably bankrupt them. Ooooh, I forgot, we have to pay for all those calls... maybe the phone company did a deal with them?
90% of the crap that I have to clear up got onto the computer through IE. We do not have Outlook which would change that figure considerably but I wish people would stop using IE. I do not have the authority to insist that people stop using IE but I have installed firefox on all the machines and were it used to say 'Internet Explorer' across the bar at the top of IE it now says 'Firefox is better'. People talk about locking down but there are always new expoits for IE and no, firefox will become as bad as soon as it becomes popular as it does not work the same way.
I use VoIP through a NAT without any problems whatsoever. I have to use a proxy but if that is what you are objecting to then I think you are looking for problems. I would not know how to use Skype in this way for the reasons I mention in my other post.
Without wanting to start a flame war, I feel that Skype is the AOL of VoIP and there are many better services to use if you want. Skype is proprietory and does not adhere to the SIP standard in the same way that AOL was in the BBS days. I would hope that these phones will happily work with normal SIP services and are configurable as such. I use Gossiptel and use it to call friends that are on other SIP services, for free, without any problems, I just dial ** followed by their service providers code and then their number. Skype is for Skype users and those wanting to make cheap breakout calls, I want to call anyone including breakout calls.

[ o basically, MIcrosoft is trying to stop OpenOffice, AbiWord, Pages, etc. from being able to import and export Word XML files. ]
But only in New Zealand... those poor Kiwis.

I hope that he was refering to their armpits...
Well I thought that was funny even if some moron sees it as a troll. If I had mod points I would mod parent up.
[ steal that marijuana ]
Then you have not got any so you are no longer growing it....
What foreign company? Now Corel is own by SF venture... anyway, as I have already said, it is better to spend wisely as it works out cheaper.
Isn't it better to spend in the wisest way rather than the cheapest way which often turns out the most expensive?

There is no such thing as the Royal Mail anymore.
