If they manage to stay afloat for a few more years and not die off like Corel, Progeny, and Stormix(god I loved that one) did then maybe we can start talking about how a version of Debian has been successful commercially.

If Anyone is looking for a highly rated, affordable, and easy to use 2-3MP camera get a Powershot A60 or A70. In the 2-3MP range these are some of the best consumer ones out there.

Uh what about Bind and Sendmail? I love Samba as well but it comes at a waay distant 4th (if that) to those apps. Apache, Bind, and Sendmail are what got the free nix's in the door, Samba was just a nice bonus.

I know isn't that just digusting? Corporations can continue to screw around willy nilly with their finances and not suffer. People are largely unaware of the catfight going on where financial companies and their lobbists are trying to eliminate the last few legitimate ways out of debt.

It is sickening that these financial companies are all to eager to give credit cards to fresh 18 year olds who don't know a thing about credit. The credit card companies are like drug dealers making sure that they "hook they young" put inexperienced children in over their head. Its the same as giving a 5 year old a real gun and then being surprised as the results. People of both ages have zero idea of the consequences of their actions.

Sadly in the current political climate your only likely to see more of these types of changes which put consumers at the bottom of the pile.

Yea but besides Microsoft press releases and MS's known lacky the Gartner Group where do you even here this crap anymore. I guess you could run your business by those few sources, but my hunch is most people don't anymore. Gartner itself has lost a lot of credibility in the last 5 years. Even most of the pro Microsoft rags I read say to take everything MS says with a grain of salt. They've all been burned by MS promises many times now so while they may not even consider switching to Linux, they sure as hell don't exactly have a warm and fuzzy opinion of MS anymore. MS for some odd reason thinks this is 6 years ago and that everyone still believes everything they say. Poor bastards.

Christ what kind of messages do they think this sends? The more they talk about linux and opensource the more companies become aware as a viable option and realize that Microsoft is seriously shitting its pants. From a PR standpoint this is a disaster. This isn't 1996 when there was no Google and you couldn't do your own research. Anyone with half a brain and five minutes can easily find out that all the FUD is just flat out wrong.

In a way I actually feel bad for Balmer et al. I mean it must not be fun to live in fear which its pretty obvious they are. Kinda sad really. Their entire business is based on the assumption that users and companies don't realize that they have a choice. Now that you can't go a week without having MS bring up Linux even the average Joe knows about it. Sure he may not switch his laptop, but chances are at his business he may realize that Linux is a real alternative on the server.

I don't understand. If your truly being stopped from mailing EXE files, why don't you just ZIP up the EXE files and then email them? Are ZIP files blocked as well or for some strange reason(Ie your software can filter through them and see the EXE's inside) or has nobody in the company heard or ZIP files?

Want to do something right and not this petty crap? Force MS to actually open up some of their products so we can interoperate with them and not let MS hide behind the terms of that settlement agreement which does nothing but enforce their monopoly.

Sorry guys you blew it. You had all the dirt you needed to nail MS to the wall for their corporate sins and you folded. I'd honestly rather they not even waste my tax dollars pretending like they are actually enforcing a settlement which as we know only rubber stamped the "Microsoft Way" of doing business.

Then there is the patch for the patch for the patch because MS didn't get it right the first time.

They simply legally and ethically can't do the same with the GPL vesion. Don't want to listen to me? Fine. Let's see what Mandrake themselves has to say on their 9.2 features page.

"Mandrake Linux 9.2 is a "100% Free Software" product. This means that everyone is granted the right to access the sources, modify and redistribute the software"

Sounds to me like an open and shut case. It will never be right in a million years for anyone to try and limit the distribution of GPL software. If you don't believe in that then your priorities are screwed up. These companies who pack up and then redistribute thousands of packages of OTHER peoples software simply have no right to ignore the license that goes along with it. Somehow I don't think the authors of Gnome or KDE or even the author of some package rarely used want to see their software being restricted in this way. If they had I'm sure there would be some clause saying "hey if you feel like it, feel free to restrict distribution if its in the interest of some company".

Mandrake knew what they were getting into when they decided to piggy back on the work of others to create their distro. If now they are somehow regretting the terms of the software they have adopted, then maybe they need to rethink the business they are in.
