Like when everyone who paid for music using MICROSOFT'S "Plays for Sure" DRM format were told that all of the music they bought wouldn't work on the new Zune? I think there are a lot of people who spent a ton of money who would disagree with you. The only reason they updated the original Zune's software was because market forces made them do it. If they were in Apple's position market-share wise(who have their own issues with compatibility) you wouldn't have gotten anything from them but a link to where you can buy the new Zune.
User calls me and says Outlook emails aren't showing up in the inbox. They are in the special Unread Search Folder, but not in the Inbox. You can read them in the Unread folder then they disappear. I've actually seen this once before and know sometimes COM addins etc can screw things up. So i get my research together and am ready for anything when I remote in.
The user had changed the Sort by to From instead of by Date so newest go on top. "Oh me?. I didn't touch anything." Meanwhile it is a great excuse for them not to get work done. "Sorry I'll have to get back to you my email isn't working". Talk about PEBCAK.
From everyone I've talked to they say Quicken for Mac isn't worth using over the Windows version. So Install XP Home on VirtualBox and then run the Windows version of Quicken if you must. Mac users are 2nd class citizens to Intuit and that shouldn't be supported.
If you would bother to read the article you'd see that this bug was extremely serious and had the potential to easily hose much of the internet. Yes much of the Internet. Nothing your talking about would ever come close to what he figured out. If you really are interested in the way networks work then you'll find the article quite amusing to say the least.
The problem isn't OSS, the real threat is the abuse of patents. When you can no longer create anything without running into a patent claim, that becomes a much bigger problem then the "race to zero". If things continue the way they are what are you even going to be able to legally create in 25 years? When all future business is going to be done over the web how much will it suck when every way in which you can interact with your customer has a fucking patent associated with it??
There are Two serious threats to the future of selling software. 1) Patents and 2) an Apple Iphone style market where you are severely artificially limited in what you can sell.
WTF is the point of bitching about a genre you don't like? Don't like it? Fine. Stick at RTS's etc. But just because it isn't your cup of tea doesn't diminish how much enjoyment that many(obviously millions) get out of the game. Gears of War is the pinnacle of "run and gun" style gameplay. There are other better FPSers out there but for the style of play you really can't do better.
Oh and Left 4 Dead of fucking fun as hell. Especially in co-cp.
To finally have hope again. 8 years is a long time to watch your country fall to pieces. It is such a weight off to be able to have someone I can put my faith into again.
Seriously? You can't think of any advantages? Then I guess I'd suggest that OS X isn't for you.
But if you want my opinion, and what else is the point of the internet, then when comparing OS X vs Linux the only thing I can say is that for modern desktop computing OS X does just about everything better than linux. It is simply more polished and easier to use. The apps are more mature and usually easier to use. Plus you get some really first rate commercial apps. Finally since it is *nix you can run whatever OSS you want on it. It really is the best of both worlds. Why do you think so many of the longtime linux users and developers moved to OS X? It's not because they were dying to fork out extra money to Apple.
For people willing to put in the in extra time and live with the known drawbacks Linux has always been a viable alternative on the desktop. And for things like schools, thin clients, embedded, servers, where cost is an issue, etc Linux really does kick all other OS's asses. But it has a ways to go before it can match what you get with OS X on the desktop.
They give some BS reason about not being able to give the "full experience" of Fallout 3 in a demo because they would have to ship the entire game. Ummm, sure whatever. You can always tell when they're lying and frankly it's insulting.
Anyway they've been whining about piracy but all this will do it make sure that everyone goes out to piratebay and downloads it for free. In this economy people don't want to pay $50-$60 to try out a game and a) hope their system runs it well and b) hope they like it. But hey, what do I know.
Paying $179 for the 120GB drive seems funny if the Xbox itself is only $199.
Btw Wii was a $99-$149 product from the start. Time to lower the cost Nintendo.

Seriously take 5 minutes to read about what they did under the hood. It's interesting and possible very helpful for many web users who want a very fast and safe browser. For me it is probably a bit too limiting compared to Firefox but Google Chrome still has some merit no matter how you measure value.
One of the few I played and then immediately went back and replayed it again. The "good ending" was quite rewarding after fighting so hard to save all of those girls. It capped the game off nicely. The whole Atlas vs Ryan story was well done and it was rewarding to explore every inch of the game. Graphics, gameplay, atmosphere, weapons, etc were all top notch and this is definitely one of the best FPSers to date. Pick it up if you haven't already.
I know for one vendor it's worth it. Dell and the scumbags at Mcafee give you a 30 day trial for antivirus, firewall, etc on your brand new PC. Soon you start hearing about how your computer will no longer be protected from viruses. My guess is most people don't know any better and simply pay up. They aren't ever aware that there are quality Free alternatives. Year after year they pay up.
You can be sure that for some vendors it is very much worth the price of being able to get their foot in the door first.
Maybe so, but to an outsider they do have a lot of interesting statements about the changes Nvidia made to their hardware recently. Either the 8-K statement is business as usual in the chip market(I'm not expert on this) or it is an indication that larger problems loom. We'll know for sure if over the next month or so we start seeing massive amounts of failing gpus.
That should be illegal. 768/128 shouldn't even qualify as broadband at this point. Unless your too far from the CO 3.0/1.0 should be the baseline speed. 768/128 should be free just because you even have a phone line with company X.
That people who used Gmail for anything remotely personal are fucking nuts. 5 years, 10 years down the road do you really think that all of your personal Gmail information won't be either a) sold to advertisers, insurance companies, and financial institutions and b) stolen by hackers?
The original Google founders have no idea what a monster they are creating. An essential, and most times helpful monster, but a monster none the less that will someday turn on everyone. I'm looking into only using a proxy for all Google searches, you should too.
Welcome to turdville. Population? You. You'll be happy to learn that at least you'll have the best coverage available. Oh and hurray for taking one more giant step towards a single company owning everything.
I realize this design is trying to be as universal as possible but I think they missed the mark and made it somewhat difficult to use. Oh and be sure to watch the kids struggle to open it the first time they get their hands on it. Finally for web browsing it is just really slow, painful if you've surfed the net on a PC less than 8 years old.
I like the idea of OLPC, I like the hardware, but as someone who has used pretty much every OS out there I personally just didn't grove with the OS. I hope that the intended audience feels differently.
What, you mean telling you they swaped the parts and then utilized "proprietary technology" wasn't enough insight for you?
This article was crap, pure crap wrapped in a fancy bow which only momentarily gave the impression that it might not be crap. But in the end, pure crap.
Worry about the launching and repair of Satellites and that's it. When everyone has Health Insurance and a living wage then we can talk about it. Deal with our present problems before we worry about the future.
Thanks. I was just about to ask for that. I remember at the time it was a big deal but nothing seemed to come of it. I certainly haven't heard of any of the giant bot nets out there exploiting Windows because of that code.
Perhaps someone could use that out in the open Win2k networking code to fix Vista's POS network code.

The 2600 had "Surround" first and IT was the inspiration for the Lightcycles. So Meh.

Maybe 10.6 will actually make Bluetooh work on Macbooks. 10.5 has been like 10.1 for a lot of users.
