Jobs then confirmed a long-held belief that Apple was working on an Intel-compatible version of Mac OS X that some have termed "Marklar."
Mac OS X has been "leading a secret double life" for the past five years, said Jobs. "So today for the first time, I can confirm the rumors that every release of Mac OS X has been compiled for PowerPC and Intel. This has been going on for the last five years."
Jobs demonstrated a version of Mac OS X running on a 3.6GHz Pentium 4-processor equipped system, running a build of Mac OS X v10.4.1. He showed Dashboard widgets, Spotlight, iCal, Apple's Mail, Safari and iPhoto all working on the Intel-based system.
Apple is trying to gain market share. I see adding Intel chips as a marketing move. While people on Slashdot understand chip differences, many that walk into a Best Buy will look at brand, and brand can be powerful. Intel has high brand recognition whne it comes to computers.
I am an Apple die hard, and I won't dump my Mac becuase of the addition of Intel chips. It is all about the OS and applications that Apple provides.
Don't allow users to install software, active-x or other junk
You cannot completely lock XP down. Our systems are locked down, but I can still install some stuff. With that said I am not sure if the same is true of OS X.
1. It encodes the data digitally? My current driver's license has a mag stripe on the back that does that.
We have that in Maryland. Too bad the name encoded on the strip came out garbled when I tried using it to check in at the airport. "Sorry sir you are going to have to wait in this really slow line over here."
There was a time when IE did have nice features in comparison to other browsers. The IE for Mac for a time (OS 9) was decent.
Now it just plain sucks in comparison to other options.
Hey, I am a big MSFT critic but...

...I can also be a realist. MSFT has had success going after established markets. 10 years ago Microsoft lacked a presence in the enterprise server market, which was dominated by Sun, Novell NOVL, IBM IBM and HP HPC. With dogged persistence, the firm incrementally improved its server applications year after year and now controls roughly more than 50% of the market.
Longhorn, looks pretty much the same as current Windows. Wait I think I answered my own question. Microsoft does not people to see the screens because the screens are boring, and unlikely to generate much excitement
So in Longhorn, can I drag documents onto a button on the taskbar to open it, rather than holding the mouse down waiting for the app to appear?
Apple's DRM for iTunes has worked well for me. It has not hindered the way I listen to, and share music (which is the legal way). Of course, I prefer no DRM.
There were some previous DRM schemes that were unacceptible. Example, CD's that would not play in PC/Mac CD drives, or that could not be ripped. Those are situations that hinder the way I legally listen to and share music.
Renting music - I just hate the whole idea. Once you are in, they can raise the rent.
1) Build your own music service, which matches your needs, and the perceived needs of your potential cutomers.
2) You can use aPurchase songs, burn a CD backup (which you should do anyways), and then re-import to iTunes as an mp3. Then you can use it on any player.
3) Get a life.
Bayu Pranata was sipping tea shortly after starting his 7am shift at the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency in West Sumatra, Indonesia, about 500 miles south of the quake's epicenter, when he was disturbed by a "tak, tak, tak" sound. It was so loud he thought mechanics had started working in the garage next door. Then he realized it was the pen on the seismograph. He hurriedly called the National Earthquake Center in Jakarta, but ended up spending more than an hour trying to contact Indonesian disaster officials in vain.
The quake was detected in Japan, and Australia. Austrailian seismology officials (knowing that it would likely create a Tsunami) notified some overseas embassies , but they did not pass on the info because it might overstep diplomatic protocal.

Old school physical evidence can easily be destroyed - burn the ballots. Voting is insecure at several points, from not proving who you are, to purging voters from registration, to destroying votes, to tampering with electronic machines.
It could be made more tamper-proof, but remeber the government is running the show, and the governmentt is inept at many basic services it provides.
there are no mergers.
You might destroy the world that the Apple-only-has-one-button-mice people live in.

They have the money, which buys them time.
We simply want a good prequal.
I am using gay in the following manner:
adjective: brightly colored and showy (Example: "A dress a bit too gay for her years")
backing the development of these things. The word that keeps coming to mind is "gay". Not that there is anything wrong with that.
So in Longhorn, can I drag documents onto a button on the taskbar to open it, rather than holding the mouse down waiting for the app to appear?
23" now $1,499
30" same $2,999
So, am I supposed to feel bad for Mullis, who was paid $300 million?

Perhaps the commment should be rephrased to say: "Only successful products get copied".

This is a re-post.

Test: What is 2 + 2?
Answer: 5
Test Score: You should feel good about your answer, as it is only off by 1.
Nothing that cannot be changed. Plus most of the people I talk to give me their contact info. I never have to go to the phone book.
Now that is really funny.
