Boy, this seems to have troll written all over it. But still I get sucked in. System administration may be a slightly wider world than you suspect, embracing, for the SMB, support strategy, resource planning and *then* technology selection. Bring in a dose of network engineering, traditional IS support, and tie it all with a bow of security policy and disaster recovery planning.
Oh, and the users still just see Windows, and don't notice much in the way of change.
BTW: SMB in this context means Small and Medium Business, not Server Message Block, and IS means Information Systems, like um, accounting and stuff, so we get paid?
Last weekend? It was the end of finals week and I was studying my ass off. Now it's Miller Time and I'm going to enjoy seeing a half-dozen good movies in the next month or so.
In fact I won't use any cable or connection I've crimped or punched down unless it does pass.
I have an older Fluke Lanmeter that will test up to Cat5E. I haven't had to run gigabit very far so I haven't run into any trouble yet.
That said, I rarely make a cable when I can get them for a few bucks from Tiger Direct. Overmolded, snagless plugs are the way to go. Plus my hands suck for that kind of work.. CTS and other difficulties.
It was late 93 or early 94.. I was at DEC and there was this Toshiba laptop kicking around that nobody else was using. I installed Slackware 1.0 on it from floppies, and if memory serves I could either install X or gcc, but not both. It had 4MB of memory, a 40MB hard drive and a grayscale LCD. It was probably a circa 1990 laptop.. very early
Never actually used it for work.. and never had a working Ethernet adapter. I think I had SLIP working.
Yeah, that's pentothal or the like. I had it once for a difficult extraction, and when I got up my ex-wife asked me if I was "ready to dress in drag and do the hula". Reportedly I then began to do the hula. Don't remember a damned thing.
When I had my wisdom teeth out they gave me the valium+demerol "twilight anesthesia. I was fully conscious but did not give a damn what they did. The fan in the window was moving in slow motion.
I have six of the 22w (100w equiv) bulbs from wally-world, and they've all been going strong for about 18 months now. Two are outside where they see sub-zero temperatures.
I have 29 years experience in operations and system administration, and I'm a little more than halfway through a CS degree program at a nearby state college. Yeah, I feel old, and I'll be well over 50 when I finish, since I also have to work at least 40 hours a week to make ends meet.
Will it be worth it? Only time will tell. I will have the benefit of decades of real-world, plus the latest take on programming & engineering. I guess it's just a matter of finding the right spot for the last decade or so of my career.
Damn, what happened to the Project Athena theory? Consider all workstations potentially hostile. In 1992 I could reload any of the 200 mips-based workstations I managed in 20 minutes.
If some C-level person has access to said spreadsheet, and keeps his password on a sticky under the mousepad, it doesn't much matter whether you're using SaaS or not. Hey it's in his *office* which must be sacrosanct.
I especially love how Siebel (used by a certain EDI provider) makes the user type his question in a tiny little box in a tiny font. Seems to assume I'm running 640x480. Makes me want to reach through the internet and throttle someone.

Gotta agree. I have problems with several different parts of my back, and Chiropractic (and I've been told I have a very conservative Chiropractor) does help.
It has un-looked-for effects too. I swear that after having my neck adjusted lights are brighter and colors more vivid. It's like pulling back a veil. Not sure why or if anyone else experiences this kind of thing.
Also, the chiropractor uses some of the same techniques as some practitioners of "conventional" medicine, like physical therapists. One in particular is interferential TENS (the juice). They both use it.
It's Elephants all the way down, damn it!

Being in the same shoes as the the grandparent, I am somewhat offended by the parent's statements. Yeah, I can look good in a tux, maybe.
But not naked, even in millimeter-wave grayscale splendor.

From here it's a local call!
The amusing thing about the movie was that the devil was Sadaam's bitch, not the other way round!

The idea is vulnerable to traffic analysis. Once the IPs of the PB VPN endpoints are known, last mile providers could just drop traffic from them.

Regarding replication, Vmotion, storage Vmotion etc all require VirtualCenter, which (runs only on Windows and) is not free.
That being said, ESX is great. I paid for it before it was free and still pay for support.
Didn't know there was a free PtoV either.. I will have to recheck that.
I suspect you meant "slavering" (drooling) not "slathering", which means to spread something thickly.
Although, some might argue that you used the right word after all.

I would have also had a conversation with someone in my state attorney general's office, leading with the name of the corporate 'Evil' HR director.
FreeBSD systems are bird species
Linux systems are rodent species
Windows servers are stereotypically gay fictional characters (sorry, no offense intended)
Oh, and my DMZ hosts are Heineman, Savage and Buster.
oh for mod points today

Well at least they'd compress really effectively...
I must disagree. Up here in New England, at least, "bullshit" is indeed colloquial for "angry", but not as extreme as "Apeshit".
And I hear "slicker than bearshit" fairly often but I've never heard "slicker than gooseshit".
It's called legalism. The Chinese invented it a few millennia back.
I had good luck with burnishing the contacts with plain white paper.. just abrasive enough, once alcohol didn't seem to be helping.
