This would actually be a good thing, since it would discourage the use of the GPL -- a license whose express purpose is to hurt commercial developers. But some of the GPL "faithful" would doubtless not like it.
Sure, It's a tragedy how badly the GPL has hurt RedHat, SuSE, Cygnus, Sendmail etc. etc. etc. who are flourishing companies thanks to the GPL.
The members of L0pht refer to themselves as "gray hat hackers" and use the term "hacker" in the old-school sense, distinguishing themselves from the media-distorted usage that bestows the term on any kid with a modem and too much time on his hands wielding an easily downloadable "script" to break into computers.
Hey, somebody seems to finally have seen the light;)
This makes me wonder: What is the "right" extension for JPEG files?.JPEG,.JPG,.JPE? I've seen all of them.
My guess would be.JPEG, since the 3 letter limitation to extensions is only a relic of the MSDOS past, and most real OSs don't use extensions to identify filetypes anyway...
Isn't Fortran 77 a standard specification for the Fortran language? There is also ALGOL 60 and 68, FORTRAN 66 and 90, Smalltalk 80, and SQL 92. These are not software products by themselves, but the specifications for complilers or interpreters... (/me thinks, or am I mistaken?)
Hey I watched it too, and Billy actually mentioned Linux as a serious competitor to Windows (to a question about MS having a monoploy or not on OS). I think he even pronounced it right...
The security of a system depends alot more on the knowledge and skill of the admin than the system used. If you put me in control of the OpenBSD box and confront me to a skilled NT admin, I wouldn't stand a chance of securing the box as well as the skilled NT guy (ot: does such a person actually exist?), because I have no experience at all with computer security.
Linux, *BSD, NT, VMS, it doesn't matter all that much as long as you take the time to learn the stuff you need to secure your system... The right tool for the job.
Anybody else noticed that despite being about uninstalling Linux, the keywords to the documents (at the bottom of the page) only contain:
Additional query words:
Keywords : kbsetup Version : WINDOWS:2000; winnt:4.0 Platform : WINDOWS winnt Issue type : kbhowto
Oops sorry my bad... Upon trying a search ("Linux"), the KB did show the document in question (and surprisingly, 15 others). Now how's that for mainstream recognition?
Actually, the new YAST3 graphical installer on SuSE6.3 let's you choose to use only the free (non-partitioned) space on your harddrive, or the full disk. In the latter case, it will delete any existing partition it finds... yeah baby, get the devil off my drive;)
you know you actually seem to have a point. But how do you expect other readers (or moderators, for that matter) to get it if you shout in such a crazed way?
I repeat: You are basically right in the fact that, because until now it has been the policy of RedHat to publish all their code under the GPL, there is no danger of them becoming "the next Microsoft" (..). Now, doesn't that sound a little more readable than your above rant? Some people around here should learn a little bit about diplomacy and politeness...
And btw: The GPL has never been tested in court until the present day...
Does anyone know if (where?) the O'Reilly Samba book is available in a printer-friendly version (in one piece), be it txt, pdf, html, ps or whatever? I want to read it whitout hurting my eyes too much on my crappy 70Hz display...
The samba.org guys are supposed to reformat it this way, but I haven't seen anything on their site yet. --

Thank you for making me laugh today...
Man, your post was quite funny already, but when I read the reply, I was ROTFL. Oh wait, he may actually have been serious...
ROTFLMAO!
None that I could think of ;). There HAS to be something wrong with a guy who can do Jurassic Park and then go on to Schindlers List...
BTW (offtopic): The sixth sense just came out in Switzerland, now THAT's what I call a real good movie!

Anyone care to comment?
There's an IETF (or IEEE, whatever?) convention on dates: YYYY-MM-DD. It does sort alphabetically this way.

ah sorry... I misunderstood, that's all.

An enormous hard drive you will need...

i can't believe you just posted Bruce's email from an obscure debian mailing list and made it a slashdot headline!
Ok, I agree it wasn't a good idea to post this story. The damage is done. But what's the problem with his email address? firstly, he has a slashdot account with the email in it. Anyone can check this out. Then, if you go to www.perens.com, there's a nice link where you can download his VCard It's not as if it were a big secret, no big deal.
